PURDUE EXTENSION HAMILTON COUNTY CLOVER CHATTER 4-H Enrollment Opens October 1st On October 1 st the 4-H Enrollment period will open up on hps://in.4honline.com. It will stay open unl January 15, 2018. The Hamilton County 4-H Council and volunteers have been working hard this month to evaluate the 4-H program and implement some changes to “Make the Best Beer.” The Extension Office staff is working on updang the handbook and will have it posted online in December. Lots of people ask the Extension staff what we do in the “off season.” That’s a great queson. There is no such thing as an “off season” any more in the 4-H Youth Development program. Securing volunteers for the upcoming year, markeng 4-H to potenal new members, staff development conferences and meengs, creang local partnerships for new youth programming, and compleng our federal reporng keeps us very busy in the Fall. I think our staff would say Fall is the second busiest season of the year aſter Summer. We could not do all of these great programs without the help of volunteers. It is also our season of saying Thank You! The Hamilton County 4-H Volunteer Banquet is September 25 th at 6:30 p.m. in Hall C at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds. 4-H Vol- unteers please RSVP by September 21 st to 317-776-0854 or [email protected]. 2018 4-H HANDBOOK amp FAIRBOOK UPDATES

Change Happens

We are already hard at work on the 2018 4-H Handbook and Fairbook It is a long process and many hours are spent

in preparing the Handbook and Fairbook

First the public volunteers and 4-Hrsquoers have an opportunity to give feedback to the 4-H Council through Fair evalua-

tions At the September and October 4-H Council meetings the evaluations are discussed and sent to the appropriate

committees Committees then make recommendations back to the 4-H Council

The 4-H Council also has a committee that just looks over the Handbook and Fairbook page by page to make sure the

information in these books is up to date In addition to county changes Indiana 4-H makes changes to the state pro-

gram that we have to adapt our rules to follow Once we have the Handbook put together we proof it and send it to the

printer to have it back in the Extension Office by January

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS Generally if the county schools are closed the activities at the 4-H Fairgrounds are cancelled

Program cancellations due to weather will be recorded on the office voice mail system (317-776-0854) after

430 pm and posted on our Web site (wwwextensionpurdueeduhamilton)

Interested in starting your own 4-H Club We are in need of new 4-H clubs throughout the county If you are interested

in serving as a main club leader or volunteering in another way please contact Kathleen Bohde at bohdepurdueedu
