Puppet Enterprise provides an infrastructure as code platform with over 4,700 modules of shareable, reusable infrastructure code ready for download on the Puppet Forge. With Puppet Enterprise and Nutanix, infrastructure components are modeled and abstracted with Puppet’s simple configuration language. The Puppet language provides a means to scale expertise by sharing infrastructure code written by one team while providing a single source of truth through executable documentation.

Puppet Enterprise runs continuously (every 30 minutes by default) to compare the actual state of the infrastructure to the desired state defined in the Puppet infrastructure code. If there are any differences, Puppet Enterprise automatically performs a remediation. Each time Puppet runs, a report is sent to the Puppet server outlining what changes, if any, were required. The continuous configuration validation and reporting provides holistic situational awareness to provide confidence everything is always as it should be.

When provisioning new VMs with Nutanix HCI, the first step after the new VM boots is to install the Puppet agent. The Puppet agent then fully configures the VM to its intended role. The process of installing the agent and assigning the VM a role can fully automated so you can go from creating the VM to fully configured in a single step.
