The components of the Clinton Junction - Jensen
Road Transmission Line Rebuild Project include:
• Rebuild approximately 63 miles of 138-kV
transmission line;
• Build approximately 4 miles of new 138 kV
transmission line near El Reno;
• Replace wooden H-frame structures with
steel single poles and install new wire;
• Upgrade infrastructure at four local
substations.
This project is necessary to upgrade the transmission
infrastructure along the I-40 corridor. Upgrades to the
associated substations and transmission line will
enhance reliability and lessen the likelihood of
extended power outages during inclement weather.
Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional
transmission organization, also identified the need for
these upgrades. SPP ensures reliable supplies of
power and adequate transmission infrastructure are
in place to serve customers in Oklahoma and 13 other
states.
Construction began in September 2017 between
Hinton and Weatherford. Crews expect to complete
construction to the Weatherford Junction Substation
by early Summer 2018.
The remaining construction on the project is
expected to begin Summer 2018. All line work is
expected to be complete by mid-2019.
The associated substation upgrades will be complete
by spring of 2020.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and its affiliate, AEP Oklahoma Transmission Co.,
Inc. plan to invest approximately $63 million to upgrade over 60 miles of 138-kilovolt (kV)
transmission line between Clinton and El Reno, Oklahoma. These upgrades will strengthen
PSO’s transmission system in western Oklahoma and provide significant improvement in
electric service reliability in the area.
