ASTMH Inclusion/ Respect StatementThe ASTMH is an international society committed to equity and global impact through the treatment and prevention of tropical infectious diseases. Our diverse membership comes from more than 115 countries and engages with an enormous array of infectious diseases, cultures, ethnicities, and countries. We come from academia, research institutes, implementation programs, industry, multilateral organizations, foundations, and governments, gathering annually to exchange data, share learning, and honor contributions from the field and the lab.

As a Society, we are committed to the open exchange of ideas, freedom of thought and expression, and productive scientific debate that are central to our mission. These require an open and diverse environment that is built on dignity and mutual respect for all members, participants, and staff, free of discrimination based on personal attributes including but not limited to ethnicity, color, national origin, age, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual orientation, gender, and gender identity or expression. We affirm the key principles of inclusion, diversity, and respect for all people. In a world of rich diversity, the advancement of science depends on the intellectual breadth and depth of a diverse ASTMH, one that informs and enriches the shape and content of scientific discourse. These principles guide the actions of ASTMH’s leaders, members, and staff in advancing the goals of the Society.

Disclosure of Faculty’s Commercial RelationshipsConsistent with ASTMH policy, faculty are required to disclose any economic or

other personal interests that create, or may be perceived as creating, a conflict of

The Society is actively exploring options and developing alternative plans should a change in the Annual Meeting be warranted. All updates about the Annual Meeting will be shared in a timely manner via our website, directly through email messages and with posts to Twitter and Facebook.

“As the Society’s Scientific Program Chair, everyone is asking me, ‘Are you cancelling the meeting this year?’ My answer is that that ASTMH is not about a meeting, but rather a scientific community that shares critical information and works to translate it into better health around the globe,” said Daniel G. Bausch, MD, MPH&TM, FASTMH. “That process is more important than ever in the COVID-19 era. This appears to be recognized by our membership as well. Despite the uncertainty, abstract submissions for the 2020 Annual Meeting were about 80% of previous years. “So, there will be a meeting, with special sessions on COVID-19 and Planetary Health, among others. We hope it will be in-person, but we’re working on contingency plans for pre-recorded and livestream options, if need be. I can’t tell you whether you’ll be seated in a conference room in Toronto or at home behind your computer, but either way, keep ASTMH Meeting, November 15-19 on your calendars.”
