As on Sep- tember 1, 220 paying participants had signed up for the 3-day conference and 196 for one of the four 2-day courses, respectively. For the latter, four topics were offered from which the participants had to choose in advance: leukemia; immunophenotyping of special sam- ples; immunology; and platelets. The organization of the Euroconference was similar as in previous years, i.e., invited oral presentations and proferred, peer-reviewed abstracts. Most invited abstracts and selected proferred abstracts that have been shown as posters during the conference are shown in this issue of Clinical Cytome- try; an overview is shown in Table 1. From 2005 onward, the Euroconferences make use of a so-called interactive voting system (IVS) that enable the partici- pants to cast their votes on statements and questions prepared by the moderators of specific sessions. This year, the IVS served to structure the debate on standardi- zation of diagnosis of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobin- uria, and the results of this debate will be published shortly (Dre ´nou et al., in preparation). ESCCA gratefully acknowledges the contributions of Maria Arroz (course coordinator, 2005–2009), David Bar- nett (ESCCA chairman, 2007–2009), and Gregor Rothe (conference chairman, 2008). They retire as per agree- ment in September 2009. The remaining board mem- bers, i.e., Bruno Brando (secretary, 2006–2009; ESCCA chairman from 2009 onward), Jan Gratama (treasurer), and Stefano Papa (past president) will be joined by Hans-Ju ¨rgen Hoffmann, Claude Lambert, Ja ´nos Kappel- mayer, Claudio Ortolani, Katherina Psarra, and Ulrich Sack. Both the 6th European Clinical Cytometry Course and the 10th Euroconference on Clinical Cell Analysis will be held in Valencia (E), i.e., from September 21 to 22, 2010 (course) and from September 23 to 25, 2009 (conference), under the chairmanship of Jose ´ Enrique O’Connor. For details see www.cytometry2010.eu. As a scientific organizing committee, we are very pleased for the financial support of our 28 industrial partners and, for travel support of our US faculty at the 5th Course, the Clinical Cytometry Foundation (North- brook, IL). In particular, we are very grateful to the Clin- ical Cytometry Society (CCS) and the Clinical Cytometry journal to publish the abstracts of the Confer- ence. The fact that the abstracts from both the 24th Clinical Cytometry Meeting (CCS) and the 9th Eurocon- ference (ESCCA) are published in the same issue of Clin- ical Cytometry reflects the intensification of the collaboration between the two societies.
