REMEMBER ALMOSTGRACIOUS Virgin Mary that never was it known that any-one who fled to thy protection employed thy help or sought thine intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this con-fidence, I fly unto thee. Oh Virgins of Virgins my Mother, to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sor-rowful, oh Mother of the word incarnate, despise not my pe-titions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Thank you Blessed Mother Mary, for prayers answered, and inter-ceding on my behalf with your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus.

I THANK YOU LORD WITH all my heart in the presence of angels to you I sing, I bow low towards your holy temple, I praise your name for your mercy and faithfulness, for you have exhalted over all your name and your promise. On the day I cried out, you answered and strengthened my spirit. Dear Lord thank you for hearing and answer-ing my prayer. Thank you St. Jude and St.Rita for interced-ing on my behalf. I will en-courage devotion to you al-ways.

FIVE QUICK WAYS TO UPGRADE YOUR HOME FOR RESALE

(NAPSI)—Whether you’re considering cashing in on your equity, downsizing, trading up, moving for a change of scenery or relo-cating for better prospects, a few smart investments and improvements can help your home stand out from the competition so you get top dollar. Even if you’re not planning on moving any-time soon, these strategies can maximize your home’s value and increase its mar-ketability:

• Sprucing up the exterior. If you think you’ll have a few years before you move, work on your landscaping now to give plants time to mature. Look for easy-care peren-nials such as hostas, which multiply on their own. If you have less time, you can still achieve a quick makeover by power washing paths and siding, painting or up-grading your front door and keeping the lawn watered and weeded.

• Removing eyesores inside. Some minor adjustments can help buyers recognize what’s great about your home. Swap outdated fi x-tures, remove wallpaper and give everything a deep clean. Replacements don’t have to be top of the line; they just need to eliminate hang-ups for potential buy-ers.

• Improving the kitchen—to a point. You probably won’t re-coup the cost of a full kitchen renovation but smaller projects such as upgrading appliances and painting or refi nishing cabinets can modernize the space.

• Refreshing rooms with neutral paint. This is a time-honored tip for a reason. While seeing your favorite bold hues on the walls makes you happy, potential buyers may not agree. A fresh coat of neutral paint can help them envision their own belongings in the space.

• Focusing on energy effi ciency. The right energy-smart up-grades can assure buyers they’re seeing an effi cient home where utility bills can be minimized. Adding insulation to the attic and walls can make a dramatic improvement in many homes. Consider the windows as well. Adding a heat-reject-ing window fi lm such as 3M Sun Control Window Film can reduce cooling costs and typically does not change the win-dows’ appearance. Since the window fi lm can reject up to 99 percent of UV rays, it can protect the investment you made in your hardwood fl oors, rugs, window treatments, furniture and artwork.

SURVIVING ACCIDENTS ON MAJOR ROADS(NAPS)—It’s a cold, hard fact: Icy roads are dangerous for even the most experienced driver, and even in dry weather, multicar pileups have closed interstates.

If you’re ever involved in an accident on the highway, take heed of a particular hazard: In many cases, people in multi-ple-vehicle accidents are hurt or even killed after surviving the initial crash largely unscathed. Three things to remember to avoid being among them are:

1. Stay Inside: Stay in your car. According to the National Highway Traffi c Safety Administration, about 16 percent of pedestrian traffi c deaths occur on freeways. People who get out of their cars are killed and injured far more often than those who stay inside;

2. Stay Belted: Even those who do stay in the car but unbuck-le their seat belt are more easily and severely hurt by subse-quent cars that pile into them;

3. Stay Calm and Connected: Don’t panic and don’t get into a discussion on the spot with another driver. Do try to signal the other drivers to get off the road to somewhere safe where you can exchange information and contact the police.

As one California Highway Patrol offi cer put it, “The best safe practice would be to stay in your vehicle with your seat belt on. If your vehicle is drivable, we always recommend getting out of the roadway. Bottom line: The freeway is a very dan-gerous place for pedestrians to be, and people need to real-ize that the potential for major injuries or death skyrockets as opposed to being in your car with your seat belt on.”

Added an EMT after a crash, “Never, never, NEVER get out of your car on a roadway unless your life is in imminent danger if you do not.

“I can’t stress how dangerous it is to ever get out of your car on a road. You have absolutely no protection if someone plows into you, and if you are stopped, chances are much higher that someone will get hurt than if traffi c were moving normally. Plus, if you are out of your car, busy exchanging in-formation with someone else while standing in the road, you aren’t paying 100 percent attention to what might be coming up behind you, lessening your chances of getting out of the way when something goes wrong.”

To help, experts on safety at the Accident Attorneys Organi-zation developed a safety checklist that you can download at www.accidentattorneys.org and keep in your glove box.

If you’re ever in an accident on the highway, drive o the road if you can and don’t unbuckle your seat belt or get out of your car.

TOP TEN FAMILY TRAVEL

BATTERY CARE TIPS(NAPS)—To help you avoid getting stranded with a dead car battery on your next family road trip, Gale Kimbrough, also known as “Mr. Battery,” off ers these suggestions:

Helpful Hints

1. Take a few minutes to read about your battery in your car’s manual and be-come familiar with the type of battery it is, where it is and how it can be cleaned safely.

2. At the start of each new season, check the battery

to make sure it is still fully charged for the excursions ahead.

3. When working with your car battery, wear protective eyewear, remove all jewelry and wear long sleeves to protect your arms from bat-tery acid discharge.

4. Perform a visual inspec-tion to see if the battery case is showing signs of extreme bulging, cracking or leaking. Replace your battery if you see any of these signs.

5. If your battery has re-movable fi ller caps, open them and check the water level in each cell. If the level is low, add distilled water

(not tap water) until the plates are covered, prefer-ably to one-half inch above the plates. This prevents the buildup of sulfate crystals, which can reduce the overall battery charge and perfor-mance.

6. Avoid overfi lling, be-cause heat can cause the electrolyte solution inside to expand and overfl ow.

7. Clean up the connec-tions by removing any corro-sion and lead oxidation and make sure to brush the dirt and grime off the case.

8. To remove the battery cables, fi rst disconnect the negative cables and then

the positive. To reinstall the cables, fi rst connect the positive cables and then the negative.

9. Be sure the battery is mounted securely in place to minimize vibration. Exces-sive vibration is harmful to the battery plates and termi-nals and could lead to bat-tery failure. After completing reconnection, use a protec-tive spray on the terminal connections.

10. Have your battery and electrical system profession-ally tested every three to six months, especially prior to heading out on a trip or ex-treme changes in tempera-ture.

In just 30 seconds, Interstate All Battery Center locations can provide a free printed analysis of your vehicle bat-tery condition.

THE BEST NEW CAR AND TRUCK TO FIT

YOUR NEEDS(NAPS)—The next time you’re shopping for a new car or truck, you might want to consider purchasing one that off ers the greatest op-tions for customization. Automakers are making vehicles more reliable and longer lasting than ever be-fore. As a result, buyers are increasingly interested in a vehicle’s ability to be trans-formed to fi t their needs. So when it comes to making the fi nal decision, the abil-ity to personalize the vehicle can be the diff erence in en-suring that a vehicle meets your needs.

Just about all new cars and trucks can be modifi ed, whether it’s a new paint job, seat covers, body kit or per-formance enhancement. In fact, consumers spend more than $33 billion a year on products that enhance the styling, performance and functionality of cars, trucks and SUVs.

There are, however, certain models that are more accessory friendly than others. One way to learn what the hottest ve-hicles for personalization are is to check out the SEMA Award winners, presented annually by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

“The SEMA Award helps guide consumers toward the hot-test-trending and most accessory-friendly vehicles on the market,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO.

Awards are presented annually in four categories based on the models that parts and accessory manufacturers are in-vesting in.

This year’s winning vehicles were the Ford Mustang for the Hottest Car, the Honda Fit for the Hottest Sport Compact, the Jeep Wrangler for the Hottest 4X4-SUV, and the Chevrolet Sil-verado for the Hottest Truck.

Hottest Car

The SEMA Award for the Hottest Car went to the iconic Ford

Mustang. Powered by a new independent rear extension, up-dated power train, and 2.3L EcoBoost, the 2015 Mustang can be enhanced a thousand diff erent ways. Whether it is with performance products or appearance accessories, the Mus-tang is versatile in its ability to be customized, allowing own-ers to turn their car into something truly personal.

Hottest Sport Compact

Honda vehicles are well known for being accessory friendly, so it is no surprise that the Honda Fit was named the winner of the Hottest Sport Compact. The body itself is both tun-able and upgradable, making it easy to improve the perfor-mance and look of the vehicle. Aff ordable, fuel effi cient and completely customizable, the Honda Fit is proof that vehicle modifi cation is attainable at any price point.

Hottest 4X4-SUV

Winner of the Hottest 4x4-SUV for fi ve years in a row, the Jeep Wrangler is a favorite in the auto enthusiast market. The Jeep Wrangler is popular among the off -road community for its durability and ruggedness, yet practical and reliable enough for everyday driving.

Hottest Truck

Chevy trucks have been helping Americans earn their keep for nearly a century, and the Silverado is keeping the tradi-tion going. As the SEMA Award winner for the Hottest Truck, the Silverado off ers drivers unlimited versatility. Traditional truck modifi cations include bed liners, running boards and hitches, while those looking for greater personalization can also easily enhance the performance or look of the truck.

The SEMA Award provides valuable guidance to those look-ing for a top-quality vehicle that can be personalized. Win-ners were selected by exhib-iting manufacturers at the 2014 SEMA Show, an annual trade show where auto ac-cessory manufacturers meet with buyers from through-out the world. To learn more about the 2014 SEMA Award winners and the products available for them, visit www.sema.org/semaaward.
