What a fabulous Vacation Bible School we had in July! Over 50

kids were cared for, heard the Good News of Jesus, and had a

wonderfully fun week! Thank you again to the 35+ volunteers!

Here is an update on some of our Long-Range Plans which our

Five-Year Planning Team have been working on:

A new worship service begins August 22, 6:30pm in Ratcliff Hall.

It is called Café Worship and will feature a coffee bar at 6:30pm

with a Bi-lingual Contemporary worship at 7:00pm.

A new outdoor lighting scheme has been developed to add much need light to parking

areas. This should be completed by this Fall.

We are negotiating with Brennity (old Pointe West) to have their bus bring our

members to worship and concerts.

Our bathrooms on the North and South wings are being redesigned by a local architect

to be updated and accessible.

Our Connect (small) Groups are getting ready for their fall recruitment to continue

expansion.

The Walk To Emmaus Retreats have taken off. We have a good core of folks who have

now attended and we have four more folks attending in the Fall. These retreats are a

dynamic time of learning, filled with serendipitous surprises, and all surrounded with

loving, caring people.

We are in the development stage of a very clear, focused Spiritual Growth Process for

our church members. This process will give a guiding plan on how to deepen your walk

with Christ.

And, on top of all that good news, we also have had a member pay off our loan from

the parsonage renovation. This will save the church over $135,000 over the next

several years in principle and interest. This can now go into other

needed improvement projects and it helps reduce our budget! Hooray

and Thank you to our anonymous donor!

We certainly have an exciting year ahead!

James: Mercy Triumphs – Fall Women’s Bible Study

Thursdays September 07-October 26

10:00am – 11:30am

Join the Christ by the Sea Fall Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study as noted Bible teacher Beth Moore takes us on an eight week journey through the Book of James, written 45-50 years after Jesus’ resurrection. The author James, Jesus’ half-brother, later became the head of the first Christian

church in Jerusalem. Although James wrote this letter to the scattered Jewish people dispersed throughout the Roman Empire, Moore helps us understand the importance of how these words relate to Christians in today’s world. Through weekly video presentations and group discussion, your life will be enriched as you live to serve our Heavenly Father. Karen Spaulding (772-643-0044)

facilitates our study and will be glad to answer any questions. Register at The Connection Point to ensure adequate materials. Study books $8.00 and will be distributed at the September 7 meeting. Joins us for coffee and conversation at 9:30am in Ratcliff Hall with the study from 10:00 – 11:30am.

Our Church Community Prays

Recently it came to our attention a number of CBTS folk were unaware a weekly Pray and

Praise List (affectionately referred to as the Blue List) was created for our Christ by the Sea

Family and available at each of the Sanctuary entrances. Consider picking up a copy and

praying– some persons you won’t know – but God knows. You may request your name, or

that of another (with the person’s approval) be added to the weekly list by completing the

section on the Friendship Register passed in worship, or on the prayer request card located

in the pew, or by calling June Traylor, 772-231-1661 x302.

Most weeks CBTS member Tom Bugg is at the church making calls to persons on the list

assuring them they are being upheld in prayer. The church sanctuary is reserved each

Thursday morning 9:00- 10:00am for prayer. All are invited to take advantage of this

dedicated time to pray in a quiet and worshipful environment.

Should you be looking for a good book on prayer, Timothy Keller’s 2014 publication

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God is available in our church library.

“The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.” James 5:16b

If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat

Wednesday Night Christian Enrichment Starting September 13, 6:15pm, following Wednesday Night Dinner, Denny Bauman facil-itates a six week John Ortberg Video Study based on Matthew 14. This study calls for us to re-discover God’s unique calling. Peter may have been the first one out of the boat, but Ortberg suggests Jesus’ invitation to walk-on water is for us as well. This study submits practical tenets to answering Christ’s call to greater faith, power-filled deeds, transcending fear, managing failure and trusting God. Moving beyond the comfort zone we create and deepening our character and trust in God are Ortberg’ s objectives. Wednesday Night Dinner in Ratcliff Hall at 5:30pm provides a wonderful way to fellow-ship with the CBTS community. Cost of dinner is $10 per person and required reservations may be made at The Connection Point or by calling the church office no later than noon on Monday. However, you are invited to attend the Christian Enrichment Sessions even if you choose not to join us for dinner – just arrive by 6:15pm.

An endowment is a fund that holds its principal in perpetuity and only pays out a small portion that goes to the church Trustees to be

used to support capital expenditures directly related to existing property or acquisition of church property. Endowment investments have dual goals: to grow the principal and to generate income. Our investment program seeks the highest possible current distribution to the Church, within investment policy, while providing for sufficient growth of principal to ensure that payments from the endowment fund are as at least as meaningful in the future as they are today.

Giving back has always been an important part of your life. With an endowment fund at the Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, you can continue to provide for the ministries you love for generations to come. These funds can be created to celebrate an event or honor a loved one, and will directly benefit your congregation or another cause dear to your heart. Most importantly, our endowment funds are designed to last forever, helping to preserve your life’s passion and create a lasting legacy. An endowment contribution can be given in your own name, as a legacy in memory of a loved one, or in the name of the mission you choose to support. It can be funded using a variety of assets, such as cash, stocks, mutual fund shares, real estate or other property. Additional gifts to the fund can be accepted at any time from you or those wishing to support your chosen mission or ministry – allowing family and friends to contribute as well.

Endowment fund gifts may also provide tax benefits. By using appreciated assets to establish a fund, you may avoid the capital gains tax you would incur if you sold those assets. You may also reduce the size of your taxable estate. If you itemize allowable income tax deductions, you will be entitled to claim a charitable contribution as permitted by IRS regulations. It is important to consult your tax advisor and/or financial planner with specific benefits and questions.

We will be presenting additional information to our congregation to raise awareness of the endowment opportunity at Christ by the Sea. Thank you for your continued support of our church and the important mission we embrace.

Jay Hart, Endowment Committee

ENDOWMENT

SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarship Committee thanks you for exhibiting your faith by making contributions to the Endowment Scholarship Fund. This year’s recipients of the Scholarship are Melina Zohn and Steven Coll. We have now run successful Pumpkin Patches the past several years. It is a fun project for our

church that brings us all together and welcomes neighbors and folks from the community of Vero Beach. As

we have said many times “The Patch” is a great marketing tool for our church! We get very positive publicity!

We also get the chance to work with and get to know our fellow parishioners—young and old! Our pumpkins

from the Navajo Indian reservation are always the best around.

Scheduled delivery is Friday 4:00 PM on 10/13. We will be up and running by Saturday

10/14 thru 10/31. As we all know this is a demanding project and requires many

volunteers. We hope those of you who migrate north will come back

early and enjoy the fun and great October weather! Naturally those of

us who call “paradise” home year round will be needed as well.

It is hard to believe that Pumpkin Patch 2017 is just around the corner.

This is just a red alert with more information to come in the next

couple months. Get ready to serve “The Patch”!
