Script: This new scanner unit is the next

generation in image readers. It was introduced with the imagePRESS 1135 and is now being implemented on the new imageRUNNER ADVANCE series. Some of the new features are utilizing a CMOS line sensor, which allows for lower power consumption and high-speed scanning. Exposure to light is by using white color LEDs that enable low power consumption and reduce the physical size of the unit. It also allows for better color balance, which improves color stability.

topic the following 3 types of image reading products are available: the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-B1 with which single-path duplex reading is available, the Color Image Reader Unit-B1 with which reverse duplex reading is available, and the plain Copyboard covered reader. We are going to focus on the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit -B1. Remember this is an integrated product that consists of the Reader and the DADF. The reader and the DF are now hardwired from the factory.

Script: Because as we pointed out earlier

the reader and document feeder are hard wired you can no longer unplug the DF incase of a fault. Now the imageRUNNER Advance series has a limited functions mode to deal with DF errors. When an error is detected, the functions related to the detected error are limited to keep the machine functional even if at a basic level. When a corresponding error code is detected, turn the machine OFF and ON so that the function limitation mode is activated. When the limitation mode is activated, scan operation is limited according to the table seen here, depending on the function to be limited. After the problem has been corrected cycle the power and if the reader deems that there is no error, the function limitation mode is released.

when the power is turned ON after a new Drum Unit is installed. You have to be aware of this because , if you are troubleshooting a Drum Unit and you temporarily install a new one to identify a cause of a failure in the field the fuse of the new drum will be blown and the drum thickness data is cleared. As a result, even though the original Drum Unit is installed back in the host machine again, the host machine thinks it is the new one and image fault may occur. With consideration to above matter, do not use a new Drum Unit when identifying a cause of failure unless you follow the correct procedure on the next page.

the toner supply system. Most of the timing to supply toner to the hopper is based around the output of piezo sensors TS1 through TS4. When the output of TS1 through TS4 changes from a high to a low, the toner container drive motors M9 to 12 are driven to supply toner to the hopper. If the signal from TS1 through TS4 does not change back to a high the toner container drive motors M9 to M12 are driven for 2 seconds. If sensors TS1 through TS4 remain Low despite the drive of M9 to M12, then M9 to M12 will be driven for 2 seconds and then stopped for 2 seconds. This cycle will be repeated up to 20 times. The timing to supply toner to the developing assemblies is based around the output of ATR sensors TS5 through TS8. We will cover this process later in the topic. lubricated this machine uses 3 methods for different printing conditions. For black only printing if you have continuous prints while no toner is fed to the ITB cleaning blade, the ITB cleaning blade can be flipped or damaged. Therefore, a band of toner the full width of the ITB with a length of 1mm solid black is transferred onto the ITB to supply toner to the ITB cleaning blade. For transparency printing, a band of toner the full width of the ITB with a length of 80mm solid black is transferred onto the ITB to supply toner to the ITB cleaning blade. Color printing with a low image ratio can deteriorate toner and reduces developing performance. To prevent this symptom, average image ratio for each color is calculated by ATR control and appropriate amount of toner with a width of A4 and a length of a solid color band appropriate for deteriorated toner amount as determined by the calculation is transferred to the ITB.

We can achieve 51 pages per minute by introducing a new toner, which melts at a lower temperature and the film capable of high heat transfer. With this system, we have a greater range of supported media due to the modification of film path and Separation Guide, and image quality has also been improved as well. Script: When the detected temperature of

sub thermistor 1 or 2 reaches the specified temperature or higher (250 to 260 deg C) during printing the temperature is reduced by making wider sheet-to-sheet distance to control the temperature at slightly lower than the target temperature for normal print. This means that the output speed will be lower during down sequence. For more specific information on output speeds and down sequence refer to the down sequence table in the service manual.

Script: Because productivity is affected by

down sequence, you can alter the temps that will trigger down sequence in this service mode. You can vary the start temperature by plus or minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Script: Be aware that switching paper sizes

can also trigger down sequence. Down Sequence is triggered if the detected temperature of sub thermistor 1 or 2 exceeds the specified temperature when switching to a paper, which is wider than the preceding paper. Paper pickup stops and the heater is turned off. When the specified period of time has passed since the preceding paper went through the fixing nip paper pickup will resume and the heater will be turned back on to control the fixing temperature.

Script: Temperature at the edge of the film

is increased when continuously making prints. Excessive temperature rise can deteriorate the film. When small size paper (A4R or shorter size in width direction) is printed, down sequence can be triggered. When making prints with paper that is A4R or longer and A3 or shorter in width direction if the film temperature exceeds the specified temperature (sub thermistor 1and 2), the fan attached near the fixing assembly sends air and cools the film to control the temperature rise. Unlike down sequence, this control will not reduce through-put because this control is executed while printing is continues. Also There is a shutter at the air vent, which moves or opens in 7 levels according to the size of the paper being fed. This feature enables air to be targeted at the optimal area on the film.
