Welcome to Delta College New Student Online Orientation. This orientation is broken

up into 7 parts with a short quiz at the end of each section. This orientation should

take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

It is very important to complete the student questionnaire at the end of this

orientation so you can receive credit towards your priority registration. Once you

finish the questionnaire you will be prompted to schedule a New Student Group

Counseling Appointment for your Abbreviated Educational Student Plan (ASEP).

Once you have started the orientation there is no way to save and come back later.

Additionally, if you leave your computer idle for more than 5 minutes the orientation will start over.

Introduction

PART 1 - Matriculation and Priority Registration

Matriculation is a process that the college implements to help students become successful and understand the college process better. There are three core matriculation requirements that are mandatory and must be completed in order.

Priority registration determines when a student registers for classes.

Classes fill up fast at Delta College so priority registration is very important.

Many factors can help a student gain priority registration like special programs, units completed, and GPA.

However, until the three CORE requirements

(Assessment, Orientation, Counseling) are

completed a student cannot receive

priority registration.

Priority Registration determines when a student registers for classes.

Priority Registration dates and times are calculated based on a point system. There are many factors used to determine these dates.

However, majority of the points are based on the calculation of units completed, grade point average, and being identified as member of a “special” group.

1. From the Delta College home page, www.deltacollege.edu, click on the registration tab, then click Online Registration. Read all information and instructions carefully.

2. LOGIN: Enter your Delta ID and PIN (Personal Identification Number).

3. If this is the first time you are logging in you will be prompted to fill out a short survey.

4. After you complete the survey you will be routed to your homepage. If you scroll down half way you will see your registration date and time. You may register on this day and after.

1. From the Delta College home page, www.deltacollege.edu, click “Register” on the top right,

then click “Online Registration”.

Read all information and instructions carefully.

2. LOGIN: Enter your Delta ID and PIN (Personal Identification Number).

3. Select the desired registration term. Example: Summer 15, Fall 15

4. Add classes from the Open Class List. Identify desired course and select the “Add To Class”

option. (If the class is full and space is still available on the Wait List, click the “Add To Wait

List” option. Enrolling on the Wait List does not guarantee a spot into the class, however you

are still required to attend the first day of class. The Professor will determine whether you

enter the official class roster.) The registration system will prevent time conflicts,

multiple registrations in the same course, and placement on multiple wait lists.

5. Print your schedule. It will show the fees you currently owe.

Part 2

Mustang Pass

Mustang Pass cost $10.

Mustang Pass is the Delta college ID card.

$10 dollar fee includes discounts at bookstore, cafeteria, and other local businesses.

Prior to paying enrollment fee students can opt out of paying the fee by submitting a form to admissions. If you chose to opt out you will not receive the card or the benefits.

Once you click on open class schedule from the registration page you will see a list of all open classes in alphabetical order like below. Example: If you click on Psychology then you will be directed to a page that will show you the different course offerings for Psychology.

Psychology Example: If you decide to take Psychology 1, click on the Psychology 1 link and you will be directed to the class schedule. The class schedule is where you can choose the days and times you would like to attend the course.

The State of California (Board of Governors Grant – BOG (Fee Waiver) has provided an assistance program to waive the enrollment fee for California resident students and AB 540 students who qualify.

All students are encouraged to apply for this waiver. YOU MAY QUALIFY!

Part 3- Financial Aid and College Fees

Financial Aid – Free Money for College that you don’t have to pay back. Financial Aid is designed to help meet direct educational expenses. This includes tuition, books, supplies, transportation, and related living costs. Students may apply for grants, student loans, employment programs, and scholarships.

Pay-to-Stay Policy: Tuition and enrollment fees are due at the time of registration. However, students have 10 business days from the date they register into classes to pay all tuition and/or enrollment fees or have been approved for a BOG Fee Waiver, otherwise the registration system will automatically drop them from class(es). Part 4 - Academic Expectations: Academic & Progress Probation

To remain in “good standing” a student must maintain a 2.0 GPA and complete at least 50% of units attempted.

Academic Probation: When overall GPA falls below a 2.0.

Progress Probation: Fail to complete 50% or more units attempted.

If you have 3 consecutive semesters of Academic or Progress Probation: Student is dismissed from college.

You will lose priority registration points, which means that you will have a later registration date .

If you are having difficulty in a course, see a counselor ASAP.

Part 4

1. A student who is on academic probation shall be subject to dismissal if the student earned a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.0 in all units attempted in each of three consecutive semesters.

2. A student who has been placed on progress probation shall be subject to dismissal if the percentage of units in which the student has been enrolled for which entries of “W,” “I,” and “No Credit "and “No Pass "is recorded reaches or exceeds fifty percent in at least three consecutive semesters.

3. Reinstatement after Dismissal:

- A dismissed student may, after the lapse of one semester, petition for and be granted reinstatement under the following conditions:

a) Verification by a counselor that the student, through no fault of that student, has been enrolled in a curriculum which is not adapted to that student's needs, interests, and abilities.

b) Verification by a medical or clinical authority that failure to achieve has been due to medical or emotional disability which has had sufficient correction to enable significant change in performance for the better.

c) Verification by a counselor that failure to perform satisfactorily has been the result of family or financial stress.

d) The student is able to show good cause for exception to stated reasons for dismissal.

Plagiarism is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without correctly citing

where the language or thoughts originated.

Students must be careful and cautious when writing papers in their classes. If an Instructor finds that a student has plagiarized

the school can take action against the student.

The purpose of the academic assessment is to ensure that each student’s educational experience with Delta College is productive and rewarding. Assessments are offered during the day and evening before classes start and throughout the term. Students must make an appointment to take the Assessment Test. To schedule an appointment, from the homepage, click on “Online Tools” (top right hand corner) and select “Assessment Compass Evaluation (ACE) Appointment System”, then input required information.

Priority seating will be given to students who have the appointment confirmation page with them at the time and date of the test. You must provide a picture I.D. and your Delta I.D. number at the time of assessment. The results will help in placement for courses appropriate to academic levels.

Prerequisite or Co-requisite Challenge

A student who wishes to challenge a prerequisite or co-requisite may submit a “Matriculation Appeals Petition”. The petition is forwarded to the Division chairperson who will seek faculty consultation as necessary. Make an appointment with a counselor to start the petition process.

A student whose Matriculation Appeals Petition is denied at the first level review may appeal to the Matriculation Appeals Committee at the second level review. Please see a counselor for more information.

Within 24 hours after processing your Application for Admissions, a student e-mail address is assigned to each new student. All correspondence from Admissions & Records and Financial Aid, as well as other important campus information, is e-mailed to students at their Delta College e-mail address. It is therefore strongly recommended that the student check his/her e-mail account on a weekly basis. Students can read, print, save, forward and/or delete e-mail messages.

It is the student’s responsibility to maintain the contents of his or her e-mail account to ensure that the total size of the e-mail messages within the account does not exceed 90% of the quota.

A student will be notified on login when he/she is within 75% of the e-mail quota and by e-mail when his/her account reaches 85% of the quota. If the size of the account exceeds 90% of the quota, the contents of the account will be administratively reduced by deleting the oldest e-mail(s).

1. Log into “Online Registration” from the Delta College homepage. Your login is your Delta ID or your social security number, and your password is your date of birth entered as mmddyy.

- If you get a message that says, “We were unable to validate your login OR it has been too long since your last interaction,” that means your Application for Admission has not yet been processed. - For questions concerning your Application for Admission, please contact admissions@deltacollege.edu.

2. Once you successfully log on to online registration, under the “Welcome” information,

your new student e-mail address appears. It will be the first initial of your first name followed by your last name and three randomly assigned numbers. This is followed by “@students.deltacollege.edu”.

- For example, John Smith’s login could be jsmith321.

Your password is your date of birth entered as mmddyy or the PIN number you have created.
