The new higher tier will cover 6 grades instead of 5, allowing for more differentiation at the top end of the grades. Previously 25% of questions were targeted at A/A*, but now 50% of questions in each paper are targeted at the equivalent grades 7-9.
In the new Higher papers marks will be allocated like this:
50% 4 5 6
50% 7 8 9
Approximately equivalent to: Approximately equivalent to:

Discussion-Issues Post 16 • How to manage GCSE in 1 year course
• Students on resit tend to be weaker and lack motivation
• Sept 2016 cohort will have sat current GCSE and will only have one resit opportunity on that spec ( nov 2016) if they don't achieve a C in that window they will have to sit the new spec in summer 2017. This means teaching them new content that they will have not been taught before
• Staff recruitment and staff training
• Resources- new content will require new resources
• Maths now got 3 papers rather than 2 with longer assessment time so need to look at resilience of students
• Changes to tiering for maths foundation now stretches to equivalent of grade B
• Shift in content from Higher to Foundation tier
• Preparing students for three assessments – (now 3 examinations)
