Good Evening,

Welcome to the 35th Annual WAMI Award Show. On such a historic night for WAMI, it’s only fitting that we are back at Turner Hall in downtown Milwaukee.

Thank you to everyone who has supported WAMI these past 35 years, including sponsors, venues, musicians, music business professionals, and of course, all the Wisconsin music lovers out there. A special thank you to our Founder’s Club who provided much needed “seed” money to help keep this organization afloat. Without their support, WAMI would not be in the position it is today. Due to their contributions, we can continue to celebrate and recognize the many talented musicians in this great state of ours!

WAMI is proud to play a role on the Wisconsin music scene by providing workshops which educate musicians, by organizing events such as Fast Pitch and CD Roulette to help musicians receive noteworthy gigs, and by providing a forum which allows musicians to network with other musicians.

WAMI is committed to serving our music community and is honored to provide charitable contributions each year to other dedicated organizations which support music.

WAMI recognizes that creating opportunities for our youth is mandatory to Wisconsin music staying alive. Barbara Wagner, former long-time WAMI Board member, who is currently active as part of our Advisory Committee, has directed our annual Youth Showcase for the past 10 years, and has taken the youth initiative even further this year by establishing meetings for young musicians.

Music is a lot of hard work and as cliché as it sounds, takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Knowing that the end result delivers so much enjoyment to so many in this world, the effort is well worth it for any and all of us involved in the music industry.

To everyone in the Wisconsin music community, WAMI thanks you for your dedication to your craft. Because of all of you, WAMI has not only survived, but has thrived these past 35 years. We look forward to the next 35 years of Wisconsin Area Music Industry growth and success!

Let’s have some fun celebrating the accomplishments of the musicians and music industry professionals who are being recognized tonight. To all the nominees, congratulations on an outstanding year!

Enjoy the show and as always, DEFEND THE FAITH. \m/

Masonic Wonders - The Masonic Wonders are the longest continually performing black gospel quartet in Milwaukee. They’ve been singing together since 1956, when they formed at a local Masonic lodge. Two of the four original members, Charles McCullum and Charles Carter, are still with the quartet.Consult the Briefcase - Pounding out rock and blues anthems, reincarnating the soulful wails and thunderous groove-soaked riffage of an era gone but not forgotten, Consult the Briefcase originated in Stevens Point, but recently centralized in Appleton. CTB plays songs that were forged in the 60’s to late 70’s, along with continual creation of original jams drawn from the influences of respected artists such as Janis Joplin, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, and Humble Pie. Rob DZ - Rob DZ combines elements of jazz, R&B, funk and gospel with a talented wordsmith to make a sound unlike any other in music. As winner of “Best Hip Hop Artist”, “People’s Choice Award” and “Best Hip Hop Song” and “Album” at the Madison Area Music Awards, DZ is quickly becoming a leader in the soulful midwest hip hop movement. The Pat Watters Band - The Pat Watters Band is a one-of-a-kind live experience. Five uniquely individual musicians are hell-bent on carrying the flag together for a cause they believe in- the Wisconsin Country Music Movement. They aren’t waiting to be discovered, they aren’t trying to copy a sound, and they aren’t trying to be anyone else. They’re paving their own way and making their own mark on a mission to develop and amplify a new voice in country music; a voice that represents the Wisconsin lifestyle. Metal Men - In 1998, rock musicians prevalent in the Milwaukee original/cover scene from the 1980s and early 1990s recognized a return to the glory days of hard rock and heavy metal and the Metal Men were born. METAL MEN perform the music they love from the 1980s hard rock and heavy metal heyday, and pump pure adrenaline into the veins of old friends and new acquaintances. The People Brothers Band - One of the staples of Madison’s vibrant music scene, The People Brothers Band is an 8-piece Rhythm & Soul powerhouse. Their only only desire is to get you moving on the dance floor. They are the winners of the WAMI Award for 2014 R&B Band of the Year and the MAMA Awards for 2013 Blues Album & Blues Song of the Year. Most importantly, they are a family whose love for music and playing together shines brightly through each performance.

Page 8: Click Here for 2015 Show Program

The Delta Routine - The Delta Routine is a rock and roll group from Milwaukee, consisting of Nick Amadeus (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Mike Hoffmann (Guitar/Vocals), Evan Paydon (Bass/Vocals) and Kyle Ciske (Drums). USA Today says “Fellow fans of Americana music should check ‘em out, starting with today’s Pop Candy premiere of “Home With You.” Shonn Hinton & Shotgun - Tonight’s house band. Shonn Hinton has been described as a passionate, skillful, and talented guitarist. Audiences around the world have witnessed his sound, but many never hear the name of this impeccable guitarist as he’s featured on stages backing Mary J Blige, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, John Legend, & Jill Scott. At the age of 35, Hinton’s playing style has been compared to that of a physical voice, singing with great conviction. “Shotgun” brings Hinton together with some of the Milwaukee area’s top musicians.

SIGMUND SNOPEK IIISigmund Snopek has been called “one of the most fascinating artists to emerge from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.” (iTunes). He’s been dazzling audiences with his eclectic musical stylings since forming his first band, the Bloomsbury People in 1968. That band earned him acclaim from music critics who found his music difficult to categorize; “psychedelic” and “progressiverock” were terms frequently used. The band released their self-titled debut album on MGM in 1970 and followed it up two years later with “Virginia Woolf, with the latter credited to Snopek III, as the band’s break-up was imminent. Snopek continued experimenting, writing two symphonies before 1975, as well as releasing the electronic LP “Trinity Seaseizesees” on Akashic in 1974. The French label “Musea” later released “Trinity Seaseizesees”, “Roy Rogers Meets Albert Einstein” and “First Band on the Moon”, distributing those to 90 countries. In the late ‘70s, he formed the band Snopek, which released several albums and singles. During the mid-70’s, he came into high demand as a sideman for other artists, appearing throughout the latter half of the ‘70s and ‘80s on records by Tom Paxton, Brian Ritchie, and the Violent Femmes. He frequently joined the Femmes for a 20 year period from 1984 to 2004. The classical works of Snopek III have been showcased by nearly every major cultural and arts organization in the area, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Present Music, Theater X and the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. Playing for live audiences factors in his ability to write and adapt music that is as appealing in the year 2015 as it was in 1970. A typical performance may feature Snopek playing flute, oboe, clarinet and saxophone, in addition to his signature vocal and keyboard solos. His eclectic music draws from four decades of professional expertise in most major American musical styles. His catalog boasts over 300 original songs, ranging from Top 40 through prog-rock to jazz. Current projects include his recent co-production of Harper Rose’s album “Dreams”, and Present Music’s “Schoolyard Quartet”, for string quartet and electronics. In his spare time, he’s been organizing the performance of his Oratorio “Cosm 23” for Choir and Orchestra. ”Whether exercising his prodigious skills as composer, solo performer, bandleader, multiinstrumentalist sideman, or orchestrator, Snopek continues to share his creative spark with local fans as well as followers across the country. Never boring, the inventive musician has been described by Billboard magazine as delivering music with “zany panache”

PLASTICLANDPlasticland emerged on the Milwaukee music scene in 1980, out of the dust of founders Glenn Rehse and John Frankovic’s previous progressive band, Arousing Polaris. Plasticland was launched as a studio band, where Glenn and John could exercise musical creativity that would yield unconventional lyrics paired with neo-psychedelic sounds. Their goal was to make great records for hard-core fans of the genre. Frankovic as bassist, and Rehse handling vocals, guitar, organ, and the band’s signature mellotron sound, remained the consistent Plasticland entity. Guitarists and drummers have rotated in and out of the band including Vic Demechi, Brian Ritchie, Dan Mullen, Bob DuBlon, Rob McCuen and Breck Burns. Plasticland’s popularity among aficionados of the genre, created demand for live shows, yielding development of their elaborate stage act, complete with colorful pop-art attire, mood lighting and occasional go-go dancers. Tours frequently took them from Wisconsin to all points midwest, to Canada twice, and on several memorable East Coast tours. While on tour in NYC, the band was a guest on the legendary “Uncle Floyd Show.” The band’s discography includes 7 albums, a number of singles, and a few compilations. Plasticland’s first LP, titled “Color Appreciation”, was released in 1984 on the French “Lolita” label. It was re-released in the US by Enigma Records, a year later. Tunes with titles like “Pop Op Drops” and “Rattail Combs” and “Euphoric Trapdoor Shoes” were the abnormal norm on all the band’s releases. Other album titles include the Pink Dust release “Wonder Wonderful Wonderland”, “Salon” (Pink Dust), “You Need a Fairy Godmother, a live LP with Twink of Pretty Things/Pink Fairies fame (Midnight), “Confetti” (also on Midnight) and “Dapper Snappings”, a 1994 recording on the Repulsion label. Separately, band mates Frankovic and Rehse have had numerous side/solo projects, including singles and albums, as well as production for other artists. Plasticland including the original cosmic-pop duo of John and Glenn played a final show in 2007; Performances since 2007 continue to feature Glenn, with newer bandmates, Andy Kaiser, Mike Koch, and Leroy Buth. Fans of the band’s psychedelic sound will be thrilled to know that Cherry Red Records (U.K.) released a newly remastered version of the first album, now titled “Plasticland”, in 2014. Cherry Red promises it’s the first in a series of Plasticland reissues, so stay tuned for more.

THE ROBBSThe Robbs, 1960’s pop band from Oconomowoc and Milwaukee, consisted of 3 brothers, Dee, Joe and Bruce Donaldson (aka Robb ) and their “cousin” Craig Krampf, (aka Robb). The Robbs, performed constantly throughout the Midwest, and began to attract a following around the Midwest. Soon they were opening shows for such acts as The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Lovin’ Spoonful, Dave Clark Five and other top pop acts of the day. They were eventually discovered by music impresario Dick Clark, when they performed at Dick’s Teen World’s Fair in Chicago. In 1966, The Robbs signed to Mercury Records, and then moved to California, where Clark had them appear as regulars on his daily, after-school TV show “Where the Action Is.”On Mercury, they recorded a series of singles, including the 1966 single, “Race with the Wind” which was a substantial hit in Chicago, Wisconsin and various other locales throughout the U.S. The band’s records experienced great regional success in between 1966 and 1970. Their 1967 initial album release “The Robbs” made the Billboard album charts in January, 1968. The Robbs were asked by the city of Milwaukee to book the talent and produce the music concerts for the very first “Summerfest” in 1968.The group signed to Atlantic Records in 1968 for two single releases. Soon after, they began to pursue a more country-rock sound and started recording for the ABC-Dunhill label, which afforded more success in the Midwest. In 1971, they changed their name to “Cherokee”, recording an LP that was self-titled, and the single “Girl, I’ve Got News for You”, both of which featured Chris Hillman of The Byrds and famed steel guitarist Sneaky Pete Kleinow. The single charted on top 40 in radio station markets in Minnesota, Washington, Wisconsin and Los Angeles.Though the band never officially broke up, they built and opened a recording studio in rural California and began recording other acts. In 1975, the 3 Robb brothers opened Cherokee Studios in L.A., which became one of America’s premier recording facilities, whose clients have Included: Steely Dan, Aerosmith, Al Green, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr, Whitney Houston and many others. Through Cherokee Studios, the Robb brothers have participated in the production of more than 250 gold or platinum records, and numerous movie soundtracks. Robb drummer, Craig Krampf, has found lasting music business success, becoming a respected session drummer, songwriter and producer. You’ve heard his drumming on countless albums and singles, including the Kim Carnes #1 hit “Bette Davis Eyes”, and many movie and TV soundtracks. His writing skills earned a Grammy Award for a song he co-wrote for the movie “Flashdance”, and the 1984 hit “Oh Sherrie” by Steve Perry; his production skills included work on Melissa Etheridge’s first album. His efforts have garnered over 60 Gold & Platinum awards.Oldest brother Dee (David Donaldson) Robb, The Robbs vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, passed away in 2008. Joe, Bruce and Craig remain active within the music industry.

JUDAS PRIESTJudas Priest was one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the ‘70s. The band fused the gothic doom of Black Sabbath with the riffs and speed of Led Zeppelin, adding a two-lead guitar attack, while decked out in leather and chains. They set the pace for much popular heavy metal from 1975 to the present.Formed in Birmingham, England in 1970, the band’s core members were guitarist K.K. Downing and bassist Ian Hill. Soon joined by Alan Atkins and drummer John Ellis, they toured extensively in the UK in the early 70’s. As their music gained fans, a 1974 tour that included Germany and The Netherlands, resulted in the band signing with Gull Records out of the UK. Personnel changed quickly; by 1974, the line-up included vocalist Rob Halford, guitarist Glenn Tipton, and drummer, John Hinch, who replaced Ellis. The trio of Tipton, Downing and Halford wrote many Judas Priest classics featured on successive albums. Success came with persistence. “Rocka Rolla”, released in September, 1974 gleaned little attention. In 1976, “Sad Wings of Destiny” was released and by 1977, with an international record contract with CBS Records in hand, “Sin After Sin” (1977) was released followed by their first USA tour. Back in the UK, Judas Priest recorded 1978’s “Stained Class”, the iconic record that established them as an international force in metal. “Stained Class”, followed by “Hell Bent for Leather” defined the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. The band recorded “Unleashed in the East” in Japan in 1979; it became their first platinum album in America. Their next album, 1980’s “British Steel”, launched the hit singles “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight,” and was their second American platinum record. By the early ‘80s, Judas Priest was a top concert attraction around the world, in addition to being a best-selling recording artist. Featuring the hit single “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’,” the album “Screaming for Vengeance” (1982) marked the height of their international fame.Subsequent album releases included “Defenders of the Faith” (1984), “Turbo” (1986), “Priest Live” (1987) and “Ram It Down” (1988). 1990 Judas Priest’s highly acclaimed album, “Painkiller” was released. Vocalist Rob Halford left Judas Priest in the ’90’s but returned in 2003 to collaborate on the career-encompassing box “Metalogy”. Halford remained in the fold for a global concert tour in 2004, followed by a 16th studio album, “Angel of Retribution” (2005). “Nostradamus” was released in 2008 and their latest release, “Redeemer of Souls” in 2014. Judas Priest has been touring this latest release globally, with the current line up of Hill, Halford, Tipton, Scott Travis and newcomer, Richie Faulkner. Catch them in Wisconsin on July 16 (ROCK USA - Oshkosh) and July 18 (ROCKFEST - Cadott).
