Even during a pandemic, we are here to serve.The tax deadline ended July 15, 2020.

This year, 53 volunteers worked for a total of289 hours at 7 tax preparation sites to prepareand submit tax returns for 143 households. Therefunds of these returns totaled $179,685,saving those households $98,332 in total returns,$38,401 in EITC, and $42,952 on Child TaxCredits.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers forspending so many hours of their time to help theresidents in our county!

In partnership with OneStar Foundation, UWTrecently administered a statewide survey tobetter understand how the COVID-19 pandemicis affecting 501(c)(3) organizations in Texas andthe communities they serve.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Texas NonprofitOrganizations includes the results of surveys ofTexas nonprofits done across the state, highlightskey themes regarding the impact of COVID-19Texas nonprofits, and offers opportunities tostrengthen the nonprofit sector—a key economicdriver in our state.

Key Findings from the Statewide Survey:

nonprofits have changed their operationsor services so that they can more directlysupport the COVID-19 response.Nonprofits throughout the state havebeen severely affected by the pandemic;even those not directly responding toCOVID-19 (e.g. arts and culturalorganizations) are facing financialdifficulties. 70% of survey respondentssaid that their budgets had beenimpacted or will likely be impacted byCOVID-19’s strain on the economy.Additionally, 82% of nonprofits havecanceled or plan to cancel revenue-generating programs or events, which willaffect their financial prospects.The COVID-19 pandemic is crippling thesector’s ability to sustain an importantworkforce and provide critical servicesthat all Texans depend on. Over 24% ofrespondents have reduced employeehours or instituted furloughs or lay-offs,and 19% have instituted a hiring freeze.Texas nonprofit organizations and thecommunities they serve need flexiblefinancial resources right now.
