The Greater Hamilton region covers 6,652km2 of stunning natural landscapes, with treasures to be found in each of our towns, and over 180 events year-round to suit visitors and resident alike.Within the following 15 pages you’ll find details on almost 80 events coming up between March and August 2018 – from brand new experiences like Cavendish Red Gum Festival to iconic events like the Eisteddfod and Sheepvention. You can see big name performers throughout the year at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre, or enjoy live music at events in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens, at local wineries, community halls in our welcoming towns and even in a CBD pocket garden. There are many events lapping the perimeter of Lake Hamilton, or you can get moving in the mountains during SerraTerror or Peaks and Trails in the Grampians National Park. There are also great events for motorsport fans, car fanatics and historical machinery buffs, plus we’re thrilled to have two rodeos returning to Dunkeld and Branxholme this year - yeehaa! If you need to feed your artistic soul we have exhibitions galore at the renowned Hamilton Gallery, plus local artists’ work at the Penshurst Art Exhibition and the Coleraine Art & Photography Show.

Southern Grampians Shire Council acknowledges the Gunditjmara, Tjap Wurrung and Bunganditj people, the traditional custodians of the lands where we live and work, and we pay our respects to ancestors and Elders, past and present.

Established in 1961, Hamilton Gallery’s renowned collection features a decorative arts focus (well over half of its collection) of both Australian and International objects from the 17th century through to the present.

Asian art and Australian paintings and prints are strongly represented but the Gallery is perhaps most well known for its rare collection of gouache and watercolour pictures by Paul Sandby (1731-1809) depicting the English landscape.

The significance of the decorative arts collection and 18th century watercolours makes Hamilton Gallery a leading public art collection, Australia wide.

Guided tours of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions are available via appointment.
