Cleveland, Ohio - U.S. Senator George Voinovich and senatorial candidate Rob Portman visited Slovenian Museum and Archives and Slovenian National Home as part of the Senator's tour of Slocations that have been significant to him during his administration.

Slovenian Consul General Jure Žmauc and his staff greeted Senator Voinovich, Mr. Portman andmembers of Cleveland Slovenian Business and Professional Association to this special event.

On November 2, 2010 Rob Portman won the election campaign for US Senator and is currently tUnited States Senator-elect from the state of Ohio. Portman ran in 2010 for Ohio's open Senate sbeing vacated by retiring Senator George Voinovich.

Slovenian American Business Association (SABA)On November 10, the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland, the Cleveland Slovenian Businessand Professional Assocation (CSBPA) and Frank Svet,

President and CEO of EMTEChttp://www.emtec.org/,hosted a business meeting of CSBPA members and otherinterested parties to introduce SABA – the SlovenianAmerican Business Association. Business leaders andprofessionals from Cleveland, Dayton, Detroit andPittsburgh were in attendance at the Slovenian NationalHome.

Consul General Jure Žmauc discussed the demand thatCSBPA mature to the level of a multi-state SlovenianAmerican business organization, incorporating Slovenianbusiness chapters from various states within and beyond the

10-state jurisdiction of the Consulate General. Businessleaders in several states outside of Ohio have expressedinterest in pursuing this goal. In order to reflect the newmulti-state and international objective, the CSBPA isworking toward officially registering itself as a new

organization, the Slovenian American Business Association (SABA).

Frank Svet, who recently organized and conducted a bilateral business summit in Dayton whichincluded 10 CEO's from Slovenia, gave the feature presentation. He presented the history of theCSBPA to date and laid out the SABA mission, vision and organizational structure. He describethe significance and potential of Ohio and the USA in business with Slovenia, and the next steps iSABA development. Excerpts from his presentation include:

Some of the next steps for SABA development are in process and include developing bylawscreating a board of advisors and electing a president. Creating a strategic and operating plan, anfunding proposal will follow, as well as legally registering with other states where SABA wilconduct business.

I am sorry about the late notice, but it was in the last minute that I've been informed thata known Slovenian professor of Ethnomusicology, Drago Kunej, PhD is visitingCleveland. I went with him for a lunch and arranged for him to have a lecture about theSlovenian folk music (not just polka, all of it), its first attempts to record it, a littlehistory of it and lots and lots of information, that will be quite new to all of you.

The lecture will be at Lakeland Community College on Thursday; November 11th at6PM in the T-137 (T-building) during our normal beginners class at that institution. Youare all invited and more then welcome to come. We will listen to some old recordings,get to know ethnomusicology a little bit better and of course get to know another Slovenian cultural aspect.

Slovenska Pristava – the beautiful hall and fantastic pool St. Vitus Church – roof, impressive church improvements and the secure and

comfortable St. Vitus Village St. Mary’s Church – Beautiful church hall and grounds Slovenian Cultural Gardens – several dedications and maintenance of the gardens Slovenian American Times – informative and collaborative newspaper Cleveland Slovenian.com – great website offering community news and events National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame – continued promotion of our

Slovenian music and great venues to promote the musicAnd the list goes on and on …

It is important to support these fine Slovenian institutions!I have donated to many of the above organizations because I strongly believe in them.

Another newer organization that I strongly believe in is the Slovenian Museumand Archives. This vibrant and beautiful facility has had many great exhibits over thepast two years including our recent addition of a “Slovenian Kurent”.

As important as all the above referenced organizations are to the Slovenian Community,the Slovenian Museum and Archives is just as important.It takes a lot of money to run a facility such as the Slovenian Museum and Archives andto continue to have top notch exhibits.

New CD Set Features Early 1900's Slovenian-American Musical Artists

JSP Records, a London-based recording firm specializing is releases of classicalcountry and jazz recordings, released a three CD set of early1900s Slovenian-American music, featuring three of the most well-known recording artists.

The first CD contains twenty selections recorded by the Hoyer Trio featuring MattHoyer on the accordion, Ed Simms on the accordion and guitar, and Frank Simmson the banjo. The Hoyer Trio popularized a lively “Americanized” polka style basedon arrangements of traditional melodies brought to America from Slovenia.

The second CD contains nineteenselections sung by the virtuoso AntonSchubel. Schubel acquired classicalmusic training in Europe, and sang withthe Metropolitan Opera in America. Hislove for Slovenian folk music alsoprompted his participation in singinggroups in Cleveland and the recordingsfeatured on the CD.

The third CD contains twenty selectionssung by the duet, Josephine Lausche andMary Udovich. Both lived in Cleveland,Ohio, but recorded all of the selectionson the CD in New York City with

accompaniment by a full recording studioorchestra. Many of their songs were arranged and

accompanied by Miss Lausche’s brother, Dr. William Lausche.

This is the first reissuance of the fifty-nine selections contained in the 3 CD set.

Konec septembra tega leta je bila na Radiu Slovenija, VAL 202, oddaja namenjena Slovencem posvetu, katere gost je bil g. John Valen čič , kateri je tudi omenil naslov spletne strani Slovencev vClevelandu, in sem se odloč il, da poizkusim srečo še tu, v zvezi iskanja mojega starega o četa,BARTOL LUDVIGA, roj. 16.3.1912, v Dragi pri Loškem Potoku, kateri naj bil živel v Clevelandu.Naj vam na kratko razložim vso zadevo.Moj oče, Benčina Alojzij, je nezakonski sin, Vavtar Angele, roj. Benčina, 31.5.1905, v Travniku, LoškiPotok in Bartol Ludviga, roj. 16.3.1912, Draga pri Loškem Potoku. Po mojih podatkih je omenjeniBartol Ludvig imel še dva brata, in sicer, Bartol Robert in Bartol Friderik. Bartol Ludvig naj bi prišel Ameriko, naj bi bilo to mesto Cleveland, okrog leta 1945 ali 1947, kjer naj bi bil tudi njegov oče, BartolLudvig st., roj. 17.10.1885, v Hribu, Loški Potok, po domače Birtek. Po pripovedovanju moje staremame, Vavtar Angele, naj bi Bartol Ludvig ml., naj imel še dva sinova v Ameriki, od katerih pa naj beden umrl v prometni nesreči, kjer naj bi se zaletel v cerkev. Bartol Ludvig ml. naj bi bil v Amerikiporočen s Slovenko, katere pa imena ne vem, znano mi je samo to, da naj bi izvirala iz obmo č jaKrškega.Moj oče, Benčina Alojzij st. je v preteklosti, cca 15 - 20 let nazaj in pa tudi že prej, navezati stik zočetom, Bartol Ludigom ml., žal pa je to bilo vedno neuspešno.

V upanju na kakršnokoli pomoč , se v zvezi tega se obra čam na vas, saj bi bila dobrodošla vsakainformacija, še enkrat vas lepo pozdravljam v Cleveland z upanjem, da bi kdorkoli mi posredovalkakršnekoli informacije v zvezi mojega starega očeta, Bartol Ludviga ml.

I am contacting you regarding Slovenian artist & writer Benka Pulko, who will begin touring the UnitStates in 2011. Ms. Pulko is a Guinness World Record holder for her 5.5 year solo motorcycle journeyaround the world,during which she set the following records:

* Longest Female Solo Motorcycle Ride - Distance (111,856 miles)* Longest Female Solo Motorcycle Ride - Duration (2000 days)* Documented: First Woman to Ride Across Saudi Arabia* Documented: First Person to Motorcycle on All Seven Continents

Since the conclusion of her trip, Ms. Pulko has focused on educating the public and promotingcultural diversity through her books and photo exhibitions. Her latest exhibition "Black & WhiteRainbow", was composed of photographs of exiled Tibetan children in India, and culminated with MsPulko interviewing the Dalai Lama.

In February 2011, Ms. Pulko travel to Missouri, along with her husband, a native Missourian. Withanticipated assistance from the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, she will be bringing her photoexhibitions and well-traveled motorcycle along, with plans to present her exhibitions and multi-mediapresentations in schools and public venues, as she has done for years in Slovenia.

We are currently seeking organizations interested in hosting photo exhibitions, multi-mediapresentations, or both, after September 2011. At present we have two exhibitions scheduled inSoutheast Missouri, and anticipate our calendar filling up rapidly.

My name is Nejc Lokar, and I decided to find my relatives in the U.S. I'm looking for descendants of Kristijan / Cristiano / Christ Lokar who moved to Cleveland Ohio. Because I do not know how to start,I am asking for your help, if you can help me how to get in touch with his descendants.

LOKAR CHRIST Birth: 05 Sep 1891 Death: 27 Mar 1972

Lokar Christ worked until his retirement in 1959 for company named "Wean Equipment Co." Morethan 50 years was a member of the Society “Vipavski raj št. 312 SNJP”. Then he was a member of the Society “Kras št. 8 SDZ” and "Slovenian Pensioners Club in Euclid, OH” He was also ashareholder in Slovenian Home on Holmes Ave. He was buried on 03/30/1972. Funeral Mass was inchurch of St. Robert, and he was buried in the cemetery of St. Paul. His wife was Marica. Daughter Mary Doles with son in law Clarence. Granddaughters Barbara Peters, Sandra, Marcia, grandsonRichard and great-grandson Michael.
