Next steps
Elimination of small schools
Review: Achievement data Staff survey Parent survey
Small schools intention was to be a structure for supporting mission and vision (inception 2004) Pathways and PASSAGE
What we found: True “small schools:” Costly and difficult to maintain “purity”
Problematic with scheduling; programs compete; students’ courses and extracurricular choices affected
Resulted in majority of courses having mix of students from more than one school
Academic Achievement:
OGT scores remained stagnant or declined from 2004-2012
Decrease in Performance Index
Decrease in percentage of indicators
Surveys
Parents: 141 responses Many positive remarks about relationships, academic choices, personalization,
choices Dissatisfaction about not getting first choice of courses or school
Staff: 64 responses Felt not enough progress was made around relationships, college/career
readiness Concerns that small schools didn’t prepare students for tests Overwhelming response stated that small schools are confusing and create some
sense of inequity among schools Teachers felt there weren’t enough resources provided
RESULT
After 10 years of trying, the small school structure is not getting the results we need for our students.
