CENTENARY CELEBRATION: CLESTRA stands strong 100 years onSince Earl J. Hauserman founded the company in 1913, the

CLESTRA-Hauserman Group has expanded to achieve a

prominent position in partitioning, cladding and acoustic-

proof interiors worldwide.

Hauserman, a building contractor by trade, revolutionised

the working space with the invention of the relocatable parti-

tion. In an exciting era for construction and engineering – with

the development of the lift and the first modern skyscrapers

– Hauserman’s revolutionary idea inspired a change in man-

agement practices and utilisation of space. Two of the first

buildings equipped with the relocated partition, installed by

Hauserman, were the iconic Chrysler Building in 1930 and the

Empire State Building in 1931.

CLESTRA today remains as innovative as it was at its

inception. With offices in 26 countries and manufacturing

plants in France, South Korea and now in China, CLESTRA’s

focus for the future is firmly on capturing the growing Asian

market with its joint venture partner KC Green from South

Korea, while continuing to achieve excellent standards in its

existing markets including North America and Europe.

CLESTRA’s commitment to innovation and its customer-

focused attitude have helped the company win small and

large projects across Asia.

The stories in this issue of the Asia news update are a

perfect illustration of CLESTRA’s “can do” spirit.

SHANGHAI: Baosteel pushes the limits for curved glass partitions

With glass partitions becoming increasingly popular, it was only a matter of time before the boundaries were pushed towards a daring 360° curved structure as achieved by CLESTRA in the Baosteel meeting room.

Working with designers iAction Shanghai, CLESTRA was

recently commissioned to develop slick curved glass partitions

for steel giant Baosteel’s eight-floor Shanghai office renovation.

The project highlight was a 360o curved-glass meeting room.

Shelly Chen, Senior Interior Designer at iAction Shanghai,

explains the concept: “The building itself is characterised by

graceful curves around the windows and at atrium level. To

mirror the building’s character, we decided to use curved glass

in the project. The result is modern, bright, simple but stylish.”

CLESTRA’s China team managed the partition

construction, from design through to the production in

CLESTRA’s China factory, and this allowed for a quick

turnaround for installation.

The meeting rooms were fitted with double-glazed glass

panels and partitions forming a wave-like design and the, 360o

curved glass meeting room is a testament to the ingenuity of

CLESTRA’s engineers.

With a groundbreaking project such as this, CLESTRA has

shown its willingness to try the innovative and take the lead in

developing and supporting new technical challenges in design.

CLESTRA Korea won a prized contract for the supply and

installation of wall cladding and demountable partitions

for the new office building of MBC, one of Korea’s largest

TV networks.

Due for completion in July 2013, the scope of work is

to manufacture and install more than 2,200m2 of wall

cladding for the corridor areas, and 2,200lm of partitioning

for the back office.

The client selected CLESTRA for its rigorous high

standards for product quality and the company’s ability to

match the colour specifications set by the designer.

CLESTRA was also acknowledged for its proven experience

in carrying out large-scale projects to a high standard and

to schedule.

The Sir Norman Foster-designed Kai Tak Cruise Terminal,

contracted by Dragages Hong Kong, is to be fitted with flex-

ible partitions custom-developed by CLESTRA. The project

challenge put to CLESTRA was to develop a partition sys-

tem that could easily be reconfigured, either to handle the

changing needs of passenger flow management, or trans-

formed for alternative purposes such as hosting conventions.

HONG KONG: Reconfigurable partitioning to optimise passenger flow management at new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal

CLESTRA designers have mapped out a grid solution with 300

bases installed under the granite tiles, allowing for a range of

configurations when fitting the panels. To allow for maneu-

verability, the material to be used in the 2.5m high paneling

is a light fabric, but the framework will ensure that the free-

standing panel stays sturdy. When not in use, the bases are

covered by granite cover, which camouflage into the flooring.

Now you see it, now you

don’t: CLESTRA’s custom

solution allows partitions to

be reconfigured to meet the

demands of passenger flow

management.
