A FEW WORDS FROM FR. ROBERT

Welcome Bishop Parkes

Our new bishop will be in Columbus this week for a very quick visit. I’m told he will preside at the 7:30 Morning Mass on the 13th here at

St. Anne. Then he will immediately visit our Outreach and then he will have a very quick meeting with some of the students and staff from our

school. Bishop Parkes is driving all over the diocese. This will be just a quick introduction to St. Anne and the Catholic Church in Columbus.

He will return another time for a formal meeting with the parish and parishioners. At 11 a.m. the priests of the deanery will have a Holy Hour

with Bishop Parkes. In the afternoon he will have a meeting and conversation with the priests of the deanery.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome Sr. Kelly

Sr. Kelly Williams from Pooler, Georgia has come to Columbus to join Sr. Pat, Sr. Margaret and Sr. Diane in their

beautiful ministry to the people of Columbus. We are thrilled to have Sister join us. She has been with the Sisters of

Mercy for a while and is preparing to commit her whole life in service of the Church when she takes solemn vows next

year. Let’s be sure to give Sister Kelly a warm Columbus welcome.

Sundays, Safety, and Seating

We have been able to be back in church since April with the exception of one Sunday when all the friars were sick.

After all of this time, as far as I know, no one has gotten sick from coming to Mass. I have to believe this blessing is at least in part because of

the practices we have established. The church is deep cleaned repeatedly Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The entire church is wiped

down after each Mass by volunteers, and on every weeknight the custodial staff wipes the whole church down with disinfectant.

I am grateful that the vast majority of people choose to wear masks and we do our best to encourage and even enforce social distancing.

As you may have noticed, we have also made several changes to the liturgy to try and ensure the safety of the priest and those receiving

communion.

I know all of this can be burdensome, but we have to stay the course. If it worked so far I have to believe it will continue to help us stay safe,

especially when u season comes around. Now is not the time to let our guard down and grow complacent. Weekend Mass attendance has

grown to just under 700 people. The 10:30 a.m. Mass has reached capacity the last two Sundays. When we practice proper social distancing

we can seat about 300 people in Visitation Hall, the Chapel and the Main Church combined. I’m not sure we can safely add any more seating and

I dread the day when we will have to say that there is no more room in our church. If things continue as they are and we reach our capacity at

the 10:30 a.m. Mass, please also consider attending one of the other Masses which are less crowded.

As we stated in the beginning, preference is given to our senior citizens at the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday. We will now begin to give

preference to families at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. The only people who are allowed to sit together in the same pew are those who live

together. Please listen to the ushers, as they know how and where to seat people for the largest and safest occupancy rate.

I dream of the day that we won’t have to wear masks. I remember fondly how Visitation Hall was a great place to eat donuts and breakfast and

enjoy each other’s company. I long for the day when people will not have to be afraid or concerned about coming to church anymore. For now

let’s keep doing what we are doing. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Party Line Rosary

The Party Line Rosary is going great! We pray the rosary over the phone every weeknight from 7 until 7:30 p.m. All you have to do is call

706-204-1192 at 7 p.m. and you can pray with the rest of us. This is especially a great way for people without a computer to stay in contact and

pray with other members of the parish. I want to thank the leaders who coordinated this new ministry of our parish, and I want to thank

everyone who joins the party line. I try to pray the rosary with the group a couple days a week and I enjoy hearing everyone’s voices as we pray

together.

Men’s and Women’s Holy Hour

The last two Holy Hours we have had for the men and the women of the parish went wonderfully. Everyone was pleased with the attendance

and happy to sit in the presence of the Lord. This month, the Holy Hour for Women will be on Thursday, October 15th and the Men’s Holy Hour

will be on Monday, October 19th. An opportunity for a brief Emmaus Walk will follow the Holy Hour for those who wish to participate. Please

consider taking some time for yourself and the Lord.

A St. Francis Day Thank You

This year we had a beautiful St. Francis Day with Fr. James. He came to Columbus to take Fr. Noel back to his parish to celebrate Mass.

Fr. James also gave Fr. Noel permission to begin his ministry again on a limited basis. We are so grateful to everyone who wished us a happy

St. Francis Day and welcomed Fr. James. He is a big fan of our presence in Columbus and is always happy to come down for a visit.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

St. Anne Catholic Church's Middle School Youth Group is open to all

6th through 8th graders who are Catholic or interested in learning

about the Catholic faith. We use Dynamic Catholic's youth ministry

program to provide a fun way for youth to experience fellowship,

get answers to questions about faith, and, most importantly, to

experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. This year,

because of COVID-19, we will conduct Youth Group meetings

virtually. Our next meeting will be Sun., Oct. 11, 5-5:45 p.m. If your

student is interested in participating and isn’t registered yet, please

complete the online registration form on our website:

before going to bed Saturday night.

SOLEMNITY

OF ALL SAINTS

NOVEMBER 1

FEAST OF

ALL SOULS

NOVEMBER 2

This year, the Solemnity of All Saints, November 1, falls on a

Sunday. Masses are at regularly scheduled Sunday Mass times.

Monday, November 2 is the Feast of All Souls. On this special day we

remember and pray for our faithful departed, especially the souls in

Purgatory who are on their way to heaven. We have two special

ways in which to remember our loved ones:

At 12 Noon on November 1, we will pray the Rosary in the Catholic

section of Parkhill Cemetery. The names of those who have died in

the past 12 months will be read. All are welcome.

If you receive envelopes by mail, an All Souls envelope should have

been included. For those who do not receive envelopes by mail, you

may make your donation online and submit your names via email to

[email protected]. Please make sure your request

arrives in the Parish Oce by 12 Noon on Wednesday, October 21.

All of our faithful brothers and sisters are remembered on All Souls

Day, but those whose names are submitted will be included in the

All Souls Book which will be kept on the altar during the month of

November.

DID YOU LOSE A ROSARY?

A rosary was found in the church on the Friday

after Fr. McCarthy’s Memorial Mass. If you lost

a rosary, please call the parish oce and we will

put you in touch with the person who found it.

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

There are a number of Bible verses Christians have memorized.

One of them is in Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians found in this

weekend’s second reading: “I can do all things through Christ who

strengthens me” (4:13). Most people de+ne themselves either by

their problems or their possibilities. Fearful people wake up each

morning ensnared by their problems. Christian stewards wake up

reecting on their possibilities with con+dence and hope. Some

stewardship reection questions for the week: What challenges

do you back away from because you doubt that you are up to them?

What would you attempt tomorrow if you were sure God would

help you?

FANN FOOD CO-OP

Are you worried about being able to provide enough food for your

family? There are others out there experiencing the same

worries. Join our Catholic Food Co-op “FANN – Friends and

Neighbors Network.” Our ministry focuses on helping provide

both groceries and community support for our members. We are

currently meeting monthly in the St. Anne Community Outreach

parking lot. Each family generally receives 2 weeks of groceries.

During COVID, we are waiving membership fees. For more info

contact Sheila (English speaking) [email protected] or

Rosa (Spanish speaking) [email protected] to +nd out more

and when we will next meet.

Our diocesan newspaper, the Southern Cross, is a great source for

news in our Catholic communities throughout the Diocese of

Savannah. It is mailed to all households, regardless of whether or

not a family can pay the subscription price, which is just $15.

Producing the newspaper is quite expensive. Oct. 10/11 is the day

we would normally take up a 2nd collection to help defray the

printing and distribution costs. We hope you will consider making

your donation of $15 or $30 by mail or online giving, so we can

continue to produce this informative newspaper.

ADORATION

Because there was so much interest in our Men’s and Women’s

Adoration nights in September, we hope to make these evenings

a monthly event. If the interest continues we may expand it even

more. An hour before our Lord present in the Eucharist is a

blessing, indeed. The next date for Women’s Adoration will be

October 15th and the next date for Men’s Adoration will be

October 19th, both at 7 p.m.

If you can’t join us in person, we hope you and your family will join us for Mass online.

OPENING SONG: Table of Plenty

GLORIA

ALL: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,

we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus

Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on

us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on

us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

FIRST READING: IS 25:6-10A

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure,

choice wines. On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples, the web that is woven over all nations; he will

destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face; the reproach of his people he will remove from

the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is

the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!" For the hand of the LORD will rest on this

mountain. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 23:1-3A, 3B-4, 5, 6

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose;

beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

He guides me in right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley

I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes;

you anoint my head with oil; my cup overows.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life;

and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

SECOND READING: PHIL 4:12-14, 19-20

Brothers and sisters: I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every

circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance

and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress.

My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father,

glory forever and ever. Amen. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts, so that we may know what is the hope that belongs

to our call.

R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

GOSPEL: MT 22:1-14

Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people in parables, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be

likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast,

but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my

banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast.”’ Some ignored the invitation

and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.

The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his servants,

'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to

the feast whomever you nd.’ The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the

hall was lled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding

garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to

silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there

will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’ Many are invited, but few are chosen." The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father

before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(At the words that follow,

up to and including “and became man,” all bow)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

OFFERTORY SONG: Here at This Table

COMMUNION SONG: (Instrumental)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (For those who cannot be present)

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You

as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

FINAL BLESSING AND DISMISSAL

RECESSIONAL SONG: Lead Me Lord

For our sake he was crucied under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and gloried,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
