    Technical Information

ESD Electrostatic dischargeESD shoes should be worn to reduce electrostatic charging by dissipating the charge.According to norm EN 61340-5-1 contact resistance should be below 3.5 x 107 Ω.

Plastic toe cap, steel toe cap, and aluminium toe capAll three versions are certifi ed according to DIN EN 12568:2010-10 for outside the shoe and EN ISO 20344:2011 for inside the shoe. The plastic toe cap is extremely shock resistant, highly elastic and 50% lighter than the steel toe cap. The aluminium toe cap is also 50% lighter than the steel toe cap.

Identifi cation SB, S1, S2 and S3These identifi cations mirror the requirements according to norm EN ISO 20345:2011 which the shoe fulfi ls. Below are short explanations:

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Anti-slip resistance SB, split into 3 classes (SRA, SRB or SRC). The energy absorption capacity of the toe cap is approx. 200 Joule.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: S1 – closed heel area, antistatic, energy absorption capacity at heel area

S2 – as S1, additionally water penetration and water absorption resistant (WRU)

S3 – as S2, additionally puncture resistant and corrugated sole

Cleanroom compatible shoes should protect products and processes like all other garments which are worn by humans in a cleanroom.

In comparison to ordinary professional shoes, cleanroom compatible shoes differentiate themselves in a number of ways:

In the fi rst instance the materials used for cleanroom compatible shoes should generate and emit as few particles as possible. The shoes themselves should not become a larger particle source.Hence one of the key properties is “abrasion resistance” leading to the use of synthetic materials, closed soles etc.

Also a very important aspect is the shoe change in the air lock area to avoid cross contami-nation as much as possible. Cleanroom shoes are only allowed to be worn in cleanrooms or in adjacent lock areas.

Suffi cient conductivity of the shoe up to ESD properties are also further prerequisites.

As for these product line personal protection has found its way in cleanroom areas, the safety of the user plays in a lot of cases also a vital role. Hence, when making a decision, the relevant norms and guidelines have to be taken into account, such as sure-footedness, slip resistance, toe protection etc.

The from user‘s point of view important product characteristics, such as fi t, wear comfort etc., also have to be conciliated with your cleanroom specifi c requirements.

The following pages of this chapter should help you to choose the right shoe models for your process specifi c requirements.
