REST PAID ARMY IN WORLD,
There seems to be some coifusloain the minds of some people regardingt he pay of the army.
Hereafter the lowest paid privateIn the army will recolve 30 a month.an increase all along the line throughthe service. This paywill be still further increased by twenty per cent when tne soiaiers go tunof the country for service, so that thelowest pay for any man sent to Francefor example, will be it. '
To thees Increased must be added theallowance for clothing and extra rations, amounting to from 112 to $1
per month. These increases nwameetfectlv ' June let, ai: ..1 i .maineffective for six months nfter the warends.v The United States, therefore, goesinto the war with the beBt paid armythe world has ever seen, which is exactly as It should be.f This Is by farthe richest nation in the v orld aadhas the best paid labor. ; It has menand it has the money, and tt aa rightthat the government ahoult' adopt amora generous policy toward the meowho do the actual fighting.
. The purpose ot the law was to makett possible for every private soldier athome to save at least 130 a month Ifhe so desires, and for every one inforeign service to save at least J.
This is decidedly better than the av-
erage householder la able to save frana aalary of $150 a month,, let us aay.
Conutlng clothes and food. It is bettertnan the average salaried man gets Im
any other line of work. '
