Images(lefttoright)::Sara’sPalette,Memories,andWhatMightHaveBeenbyTonySchwartzCLAUDIA’SDOLLANDOTHERWINDOWSTONYSCHWARTZSeptember7–October5,2017TheCopleySocietyofArtisproudtopresentClaudia’sDollandOtherWindows,asoloshowofblack-and-whitephotographsbyTonySchwartzintheRedRoomGallery.ThisexhibitionopenswithareceptiononThursday,September7thfrom5:30to7:30pmattheCopleySociety,locatedat158NewburyStreet,Boston,MA02116,andcontinuesthroughOctober5th.InClaudia’sDollsandOtherWindows,TonySchwartzcapturesmodelsastheyinteractwithhiswifeClaudia’sdoll,Janie.InadditiontointeractingwithClaudia’sdoll,themodelsposewiththeirownpersonalobjects,whichSchwartzsayswould“helpdefinethemasaperson,desiringthistocomplementtheirreactionstothedoll.”Schwartz’photographsglimpseintothe“windows”ofeachmodel’spersona,sothateachphotograph“leavestherealmoftheordinary,illuminesconsciousnessatahigherlevelandentersthearenaof‘art.’”TonySchwartzisoftendrawntophotographinganimals,landscapes,andpeople.Whenphotographingmodels,Schwartzconsidersthemtobe“stillperformanceartists,”becausehefindsthattheyoftenexpresstheirpersonalidentitiesand“becomeart.”The Copley Society of Art (Co|So), America’s oldest non-profit arts organization, is committed to theadvancement,enjoyment,andpromotionofitsmemberartistsandthevisualarts.Theorganization,foundedin1879,comprisesjuriedartistswhoareselectedbyacredentialedartcommittee.Co|Soprovidesartistswithagalleryforexhibitingandsellingtheirworkandaplatformforengagingandeducatingthecommunity.
