various NLUs will be based on the same. Hence, an online

The first 2500 candidates (comprising 40% extra candidates
proportionately from various categories such as
General/SC/ST/OBC/PWD etc.) in the merit list will be allowed
to participate in the online counseling against the actual seats
available with the participating NLUs, by logging in to the
personal LOGIN ACCOUNT created by them at the time of
registration and depositing the adjustable fees of ` 1,00,000/-
(Rupees One Lakh only) either online/offline through the
website.
The candidates seriously interested in taking admission
must deposit the required fees so as to be considered
against the seats available with a NLU. The candidates failing
to deposit the required fees through the website with the
CLAT Office by the specified date will forfeit their right to be
considered for admission in future and their names will be
dropped from the CLAT Merit List.
The university-wise first provisional allotment list based on
merit-cum-preference will be published on the CLAT Website
for the exact number of seats available with a NLU taking into
consideration the university-wise preferences obtained from
the candidates during the counselling session, their CLAT
score and Rank. The list will also be made available to the
respective participating Universities.
The provisionally selected candidates allotted to various NLUs
will have to reserve their seats within a stipulated period at
this stage by logging in to the personal LOGIN ACCOUNT. The
candidates will be provided with three options viz.,
I hereby take admission with the allotted university and
do not want my candidature to be considered for the
next higher preference (This option can be availed only
once), or
I hereby take admission with the allotted university and
also want my candidature to be considered for the next
higher preference, or
I hereby do not want to take part in the admission
process.
Any of the above options exercised by the candidate will be
treated as final and irrevocable. The candidates failing to
reserve their seat through the website with the CLAT Office
by the specified date will forfeit their right to be considered
for admission in future and their names will be dropped
from the CLAT Merit List.
A list of waitlisted candidates will also be issued along with the
Provisional Allotment List, from the first 2500 candidates who

comprehensive list will be prepared by picking up candidates
proportionately from various categories such as
General/SC/ST/OBC/PWD/DFF/NRI etc. both from the All

If required, the CLAT Office will publish three more times the
Subsidiary List of candidates allotted to various Universities
against the actual left out seats.
After depositing the required amount of fees and taking part
in the counselling session with the CLAT office by the
stipulated date, if the waitlisted candidates fail to get a seat in
any of the Universities due to non-availability of vacancy, the
entire amount of ` 1,00,000/- deposited by such candidates
will be refunded to them without any deduction.
If the candidates in the merit of first 2500, do not deposit the
required amount of fees (i.e. ` 1,00,000/-) in adequate
number for being considered against probable vacancies, if
any, in future, and if the list of such candidates gets exhausted
and some vacancies still remain thereafter, then a fresh
counselling session will be undertaken by the CLAT Office.
After the candidates are finally allotted to various
Universities, the candidates will be required to approach the
allotted Universities with the balance amount towards the
admission fees and the relevant certificates/documents in

June 2014 and complete the admission process on the same
day.

on the basis of merit-cum-preference. All admissions shall be
centrally done through the Organizing University, i.e. Gujarat
National Law University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The
information relating to various dates of the admission shall be
placed on CLAT-2014 website (www.clat.ac.in) from time to

cum-preference. However, if a candidate, at any stage of the
allotment process, wants to forego his claim for the next
higher preference and wants to stay with and take admission
in the allotted University, or wants to leave the admission
process he/she will be given the option to do so. To exercise
this option, the candidate will have to mention the same
within the prescribed time limit at the relevant section of the

will be treated as final and irrevocable, and the candidate will
be deemed to have been admitted in the University opted as

www.clat.ac.in About NLSIU
B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) PROGRAMME
National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is the first Indian
University, established exclusively for legal studies and research.
The National Law School of India Act, 1986, passed by Karnataka
Legislature, provided the statutory basis to this University. It
became functional in 1988. Sponsored by the Bar Council of
India, NLSIU represents the unique partnership between the Bar,
Bench and Academia. Eminent judges and leading lawyers have
been associating with the Law School working side by side with a
committed band of academicians.
NLSIU had a modest beginning in an old building at the Central
College Campus of Bangalore University and was shifted to the
present campus in 1991. Thereafter it has been a period of steady
growth and we have now one of the best equipped and beautiful
campuses. The Library, i.e. Shri Narayana Rao Melgiri National
Law Library is the best Law Library in the country. The entire
campus including the hostels is provided with wireless
connectivity and as a result, the students can access internet
services from anywhere in the Campus and NLSIU is the first Law
School to achieve this distinction. All the class rooms are
equipped with LCD Projectors and other facilities.
There are independent hostels for men and women and being a
residential University, all the students have to stay in the Hostels.
The Library is kept open till midnight in order to facilitate intensive
use of academic resources.
There is a well-equipped moot court hall named after Justice M.
Hidayatullah, former Chief Justice of India. Every student of
NLSIU is expected to participate actively in the moot court
activities. Our students have kept the highest Mooting traditions
of the NLSIU by excelling in National and International Moot Court th
Competitions. For the second time, in the history of Jessup, on 7
April, 2013 NLSIU team consisting of Raag Yadav, Akshaya
Ramdurai, Geeta Hariharan and Shreya Jain has won the finals of
Jessup Moot Court Competition defeating Singapore
Management University (SMU). Raag Yadav was adjudged as the
Best Oralist. NLSIU won Jessup for the first time in 1999 and 2013
is the second time that NLSIU has bagged the World Cup in Moot
Court. NLSIU, Bangalore to date is the only Law School from India
to have won Jessup Memorial Moot Court, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE.
In fact, one of the core ingredients of the NLSIU life is vibrant
debating, mooting and conference culture. Some of the most
exciting competitions, students take part in are client counseling
and negotiation competitions, which promote the art of speaking
without arguing. This goes a long way in making a successful
lawyer. Another aspect of life at Law School is the Legal Services
Clinic. One of the avowed objectives of the Legal Services Clinic is
to bridge the gap created between the legal procedures and the
common man. In pursuance of the same, the Legal Services Clinic
took up severa l in i t iat ives , inc luding but not

limited to, Prisons Project which involved providing legal aid to
the under-trial prisoners, organising street plays and also
conducting Legal Literacy Programs around Bangalore. In fact LSC
handled more than 100 cases the previous academic year alone.
The National Law School of India Review, The Indian Journal of
Law and Technology, Socio-Legal Review and the Indian Journal of
International Economics Law - these are the four prestigious
journals being published from the NLSIU. All of them are peer
reviewed and have received rave review. All these journals have
been handled by the students only.
As part of the outreach programmes, NLSIU has renewed the
earlier practice of interacting with the law colleges in India in an
attempt to extend the academic support to them from time to
time.
Ms. Anupama Kumar has been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship, th
a prestigious scholarship for the year 2013. This is for the 18 th
time and 8 year in succession that NLSIU students have been
selected for the Rhodes Scholarship.
4 (four) of our first year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) students have won the
prestigious Aditya Birla Scholarship. The Aditya Birla Scholars
will receive scholarship from Aditya Birla Foundation for their
entire studies in NLSIU.
Various donors have established 14 Endowment Chairs in NLSIU
to promote the study of different subjects. These subjects include
Constitutional Law, Refugee Law, Corporate Law, International
Trade Law, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property
Law, Consumer Law, etc. Allen and Overy, a leading British Law
firm, has set up the Chair on International Financial Laws and Prof.
Philipp Wood, a leading authority on the subject, conducted
week's intensive course along with the attorneys of the firm in
NLSIU campus under the auspices of the Chair.
The NLSIU has a well-developed research centres in Juvenile
Justice, Intellectual Property Rights, Environmental Law, Women
and the Law, Child and the Law, Social Exclusion and Inclusive
Policy.
NLSIU follows a trimester system whereunder an academic year is
divided into three parts and four subjects are taught in each
trimester. As a result, a student would have completed sixty
courses by the time he / she completes the five year term. The
wide spread of subjects help our students to acquire extensive
and intensive knowledge of our legal system. All subjects are
compulsory upto the end of fourth year and optional seminar
courses are offered in the final year. These optional seminar
courses provide opportunities to specialise in certain areas. For
example, a student who wishes to pursue career in corporate law
may choose seminar courses on accountancy, securities law,
mergers and acquisitions, etc. NLSIU encourages the involvement
of outside expertise in offering seminar courses. In recent years,
the seminar courses have been offered in subjects such as
European Law, Telecommunication Law, Negotiation Skills,
International Taxation, Media Law & Ethics, etc. To find out the
courses taught at NLSIU and their distribution over the years,
please check NLSIU Website: www.nls.ac.in
Another significant method of involving scholars from outside is
by way of single credit courses. These courses normally comprise
of 18 hour lectures spread over a week. This also facilitates the
nation's otherwise busy leading professionals and academics
from foreign Universities to teach at the Law School. These are
intensive courses and focus on highly specialised areas of Law.
Some of the single credit courses offered at NLSIU during the past
couple of years include International Climate Law & Litigation,
Law, Economics and Religion: A Rational Choice Perspective,
Selected Issues in the Philosophical Foundations of Criminal Law,
International Commercial Arbitration, Constitutional Law of the
European Union, etc.
