Why Should We Have Procedures in Our

Classroom?

Page 3: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Procedures are a part of life. They allow complex operations to run smoothly with minimal confusion, low

stress, and less wasted time. Airports Driving Restaurants Movies School

Classroom and Academic Expectations

Classroom Expectations

The atmosphere in this classroom will be formal and academic, but comfortable.

Students will work hard, learn biology, and enjoy the process.

If a visitor walked into our classroom during the day, what should they see?

Page 6: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

I expect students to do the following things to make sure

the classroom runs smoothly:

Attend class, and arrive on time.Have materials ready when the bell rings.Listen when others are speaking.Follow directions the first time they are given.Get permission before speaking.Be polite and respectful toward each other. Stay on-task and focused on biology.

Page 7: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Academic Expectations

Come to class on time and have materials ready.

Follow teacher’s directions and complete assignments.

Work hard and enjoy the process.

Do your best.

Do not complain; it poisons the atmosphere.

Tardy Procedure (1)

Enter the classroom quietly, pick up the daily handouts, and join in the classroom activities with minimal disruption.

You must fill out a pink “tardy form” explaining the reason for the tardy. The teacher will provide the form and you will turn it in by the end of the class period.

Page 16: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Tardy Procedure (2)If you accumulate 3 tardy forms or more in one

grading period, you will have a consequence (detention with teacher and/or a phone call to parents).

If you accumulate 4 tardy forms or more in one grading period, an office referral will be written with the tardy forms attached.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to class (unexcused), it will be counted as an unexcused absence.

Page 17: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Absence ProcedureWhen you are absent, check with your table

group to find out what you missed. Do not ask the teacher.

If you are missing work from an absence, the teacher will let you know what you are missing and provide the materials needed.

You will have until the end of the week to complete your missed work.

Page 18: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Listening to/Responding to Questions

When we are having class discussions, raise your hand to be called on and actively listen to whoever is speaking.

Teacher will give specific instructions when students are to call out answers without first raising their hands.

Ask only questions that are relevant to the lesson.

Be respectful of all comments and ideas, even if they differ from yours.

Page 19: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Working Together in Groups

Each student in a cooperative group will have a task which will be assigned by teacher or determined by group members.

Example of tasks:- recorder- presenter- materials person- clean up person- encourager- leader–keep group on task

Page 20: Classroom Procedures General Biology Ms. Rogers Room 206

Getting the Class’ Attention

When you see my hand you are to 1) stop what you are doing.

2) look at the teacher. 3) raise your hand until the class is

silent.
