At trie beginning of the year, yearbook class started Wth a few struggles and set-bacfc, Trie majority of trie students were first-year members and had to be taugh t few the software and camera operated, "Learning the new software and learning how the camera worked was stressful a t times, bu t the editors were always t^iere to ^elp ou t " commented Sarah Mifesell. Also, a t tf ie s tar t of the year, Yearbook members had some issues With reaching their deadlines on time,

Although the beginning of tf ie year was a struggle, students pulled through, fehley lorns stated, "We were able to wor^ as a team and overcome some of he diff icult obstacles we aced," Members began

to understand the software better and became more familiar With the camera, As the year progressed, members began wording as a team and pages guic^l i j s tar ted to improve and more were being submitted on time, Regardless of all the troubles in the beginning, this staff may have designed the best yearbook the school has e\jerseev\,

There were three art classes offered In high school They were Introduction to 3D A r t Painting, and Printmaking,

In Introduction to 3D A r t the students made pottery such as a box with a lid and a coil p o t When making the box with a lid, some students made different shapes, freshman Emma Vorevxz. said, "I enjoyed making trie cup because it was the easiest:

In Painting trie students learned how to use water colors, fempra paints, and oil paints, They also drew landscapes and self portraits, Also, as their final exam, the students had to go to the chruch and d raw it,

In Printmaking the students learned how to do glue prints, lanolium cuts, and etchings, There were many diff icult projects, When asked what the hardest thing she had to make Cy Page said, uThe coll pot because it enraged me to the point of disgust!"

It was a very educational year for the art students,

Qeifi Woidyla knows Jenny from choir,

Above Left: No one ever said IT class was going to be easy work, but it loofe as though brad Dvermyer never got that memo,

Left: Wfiat a good class! look at the way model students Tommy James, John Wil^man, Deric Griffo, Austin Lazo, Zecfi Albert, and Jov\ Green work so diligently!

Rigfit: Someone who obviously loofo \\ke he knows what he's doing is Trevor Weldon, It looks \\ke Trevor is putting on quite a show for his freshman classmate Daniel Gravely,

In IT class, students built f l i ngs and learned to do a lot with their hands, This year the IT'S major class project was to design and build a handicap ramp leading up the stage for graduation, The boys had to divide themselves up in to four seperate groups, Once they divided, the groups designed four different blueprints for the ramp, After all the blueprints were made, the class decided which design looked the best and then they started to build their ramp,

The blueprint t ha t was chosen came from the group consisting of Cody Dvermyer, Cody Kozwbik, and Michael Rouse, When asked abou t how he felt abou t having the best design, Cody Kozwbik stated, "We worked really hard so I'm happy our design won," Ryan Carter added, "Their groups design really was very good, even though everyone knew mine was the best:

Cody later explained the process the class went through after selecting the design, He said before they started the ramp they had to f igure out the measurements for each part, Dncethe measurements were decided upon, the boys divided up again info four teams and each team was assigned to a different par t of the ramp to work on, It was hard work, bu t the students worked hard and got the Job done,

For people interested in people, animals, and plants, biology is probably r ight for you, Biology II student Tori Dawgfiarty stated, "I think Biology was a lot of fun! It was so cool when we did the dissections!"

As for individuals with a flair for reactions, equations, and laboratory work, Chemistry can be very appealing, Accord ing to Stanley Bwdd, one of Mr, Konzelman's advanced Placement Chemistry students, "Chemistry is a really tough class, bu t I enjoy work ing in the lab and doing all the calculations for lab reports,"

How many times does a normal person use math In their everyday lives} The answer can seem quite astounding, From basic count ing to the seemingly impossible calculations used by rocket scientists, mathematics can be found everywhere!

The types of math you find in high school are usually a little bit more diff icult than basic subtract ion, The toughest math course offered at Culver Community High School is AP Calculus, "I'm a little nervous about taking Calculus next year) I have heard some scary things about that class1: Junior Johv\ Glrard stated, His sentiments were shared by many future students,

Only two students made if through the entire course during the 2DD6-2DD7 school year, Heather Newman and Vance Curtis were the brave, or possibly crazy, Cavaliers who ventured through the Jungle of AP Calculus, According to their infructor, Mr, Quschmavi, "It takes a lot of patience and confidence in your intelligence and ability to make it though this

Parlez- vows francais? Quesobreespangol? Don't worry, unless you take one of the two foreign language classes offered a t Culver High School, you may not understand those two questions, Most students have to choose between either French or Spanish, and this choice sometimes leads to intense rivalry,

AAs, Dearth, the French teacher at CHS for 38 years, often fold the story of the classes of the past, French and Spanish students would a t tack each other, usually harmlessly with wadded-up paper balls,

This year, students decided to revive the good-hearted wars, The two sides went back and forth, s tar t ing with the Spaniards stealing the French flag from room 2D5, The combined French III and IV class retaliated by holding a Mexican p inafa ransom, Vest la gare!" Jordan Broeker recalled, "That means i f is war' in French, We declared war on those Spaniards!" he stated happily,

Don't worry, there was no real inter-class violence in the halls of CCH5 this year; it was all good-hearted fun,

The 2DD6-2DD7 school year offered several dif ferent classes tha t fell under the FAC5 category, There was a sewing class, a nutrit ion class, and then there was a child development class, During the child development class, all of the students in the class had to take a very realistic baby home with them either overnight or all weekend, Most students chose overnight because caring for a baby is tough work, especially when you are also t ry ing to Juggle school and possibly a Job, Amber Smith stated, "I didn't like tak ing the baby home! I only got three hows of sleep and then I had to sit through school the next day!" It's very hard to fake care of a baby dur ing high school, and even though it is possible, most kids are Just not cut out for if, What this class did was show students t ha t most high schoolers were not ready to give a real baby the attent ion it deserves, Carly Glenn was another pupil who had to take a baby home and she said, "I thought tha t I wanted to have kids, bu t after living with tha t baby for a night I'm not so sure!" Overall, child development was a very important class, It gave kids the chance to see how important and time consuming caring for another life really is!

To the average student, Computer Class with Mr-Schwartz is a place to hang out and mess around, However, these conceptions are false, Mr, Schwartz commented, "Students think this is a class to play games, bu t they're wrong,"

When tak ing a closer look at room 309, the sight is amazing, Students are constantly a t work; reason being, there is never homework, Another sight you will see is students learning how to use Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Access, Jacob Sheridan commented, "My favorite par t abou t tak ing computers Is learning more about Microsoft-Word, I didn't know there were so many other things on here,"

Mr, Schwartz teaches students the value of hard work in his computer class, Students'simple commitment to learning, allows students to get ahead in life, Most students know tha t to succeed in the common work force today, employers are looking for employees with computer skills, By fak ing only one semester of computers, students gain the little skills to fake their lives to the next step and make the conceptions about computers false,

Commitment and dedication come to mind when you think of the English department because of all the hard work and determination that the English teachers put into teaching, This can be attributed to the head of the department Mrs, Benner, Mrs, Benner, who has taught at Culver for 28 years, has passed on her experience to the other English teachers and shaped the great department Culver Community calls its own,

Ms, Ettlinger started teaching at the beginning of the 2006-2DD7 school year, When Ms, Ettlinger was asked about Mrs, Benner, she said, "She has taught me the type of person the k\ds will respect, She is a role model for other teachers because of her interactions with teachers, students, and literature," Mrs, Benner has not only influenced the English department; she has influenced the whole school,

Mrs, Benner has taught a few of the teachers at Culver, including the principal, Mr, Hanselman, Mr, ttanselman said, "When ( ids come bac^ from college they say that her class was very tough but it prepared them for college," Another teacher that was taught by Mrs, Benner was Mr, Buscfiman, Mr, buschman also said that Mrs, bennefs classes were tough, but they prepared him for his college English classes, The Spanish teacher, Mr, Stevens, had Mrs, Benner as well, He said, "If asked how Mrs, Benner has influenced me, I would say she is an example for us all and an absolute blessing to this school,"

Mrs, Benner is an excellent teacher, she really cares about her students and makes sure that they are prepared for college, Mrs, Benner has dedicated her life to teaching and has done a great Job,

Everyday during Mr, Pare's class, he and the students had discussions, They talked about news, politics, or anything else they could think up, These discussions made the students more informed on what was going on in the world, The discussions also helped kids get a better grasp on what they were learning because they could let their opinions be heard,

The students could bring up topics that were important to them, knowing Mr, Pare would be willing to let them know what he thought about it, All of the scholars who had Mr, Pare as a teacher know he has an opinion on everything, Amber Smith stated, "Mr, Pare is a very opinionated man," He showed his students every day that having his own ideas was not bad but good,

Another trait Mr, Pare showed his students was that it was important to stand by your ideas, This meant he normally argued with the kids trying to get them to back up their ideas, Matt Stewart quoted that what he liked about Mr, Pare was, "He gave you a chance to argue, but sticks to his guns and you'll really never win," Despite this, students continued to enjoy their debates with Mr, Pare and they learned a lot as they did so,

The Building Trades program began in the 1979-198D school year, The state wanted to s tar t more hands-on programs in schools, and the Building Trades class was one of the earliest programs started,

The first instructor was a certified plumber named Bob Trigg, To star t the program he had 3 ,000 dollars; t ha t included the money to buy supplies and materials tha t were needed, The first house tha t was built was called a spec house, This means that when the house was built they were not sure wha t to expect after if was done, The house tha t senior Meagan Maes lives in was the first house built by the Building Trades class, After that, the houses were presold,

The owner made the basic plans for the house and then Mr, Elliot would check them to make sure that everything would work and tha t the Building Trades class could build it, By 2007 the wai t ing list to get a Building Trades house was backed up until the year 2 0 2 1 ,

Students from the Building Trades class were asked to say something abou t the Building Trades program, Ben Doty said, "I had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things, and I will use these skills all of my life," Another student, Ben Bi/ischman said, "If was a fun year because we all learned something new, and we met new people:

Hair cuts, perns, ights, trims, and

scalp massages are all things that everyone either needs or wants, Junior Lacie Pier attended the Knox Beauty College this year so she could learn how to give the people exactly what they wanted,

Lacie was a first year student at the Knox Beauty College, At the college, Lacie learned the bookwork and the actual hands-on material, Cutting, trimming, perming, coloring, and shampooing are what Lacie's days consisted of from noon until 4:00 P,M,

Before Lacie was permitted to peform on actual clients, she was required to accomplish numerous tasks, lade worked on her mannequin, completed bookwork, and proved to the Cosmetololgy instructors that she could complete tasks promptly, No one wanted someone doing their hair that did not haw the proper experience, lade stated, "I have enbyed my first year in Cosmetology and plan to continue through my senior year,"

The Knox Beauty College offered a two year program that would allow lacie to immediately move out into the world of cosmetology, She eventually would be a certified stylist and be eligible to have a career at any hair salon,

In today's day and age the key to success is knowing abou t technology and how if works, Seniors Theresa Weirick and Megan Loehmer opened a window of oppor tuni ty for themselves last Spring when they enrolled for A+ Certification, These two crazy fechnos learned the basic skills needed to fix computer hardware and software,

The A+ Certification Vocational Class was taken at Knox and Theresa and Megan were the only two girls tak ing the class, "It was a little int imidating to be one of only two girls with a lot of boys in the class: said Theresa Weirick, A+ Certification was offered to a numerous area schools, which allowed the oppor tuni ty for more students and possibly friendships, "I enjoyed fak ing A+, because I met so many different people from surrounding schools, that I wouldn't have met otherwise/' said Megan loehmer,

The pair of novice technos, with their new friendships, took away a new understanding of computer hardware and software, A+ Certification allowed seniors Theresa Weirick and Megan loehmer to prepare themselves for their futures and left them crazy about technology,

Each day, the boys would go to Knox, where the class was held, to learn the tricks of the trade, After learning lessons out of the book, the crew would head to the shop to put their newly acquired knowlege to practice, They would work on special practice cars provided by Auto Tech, customer cars, and sometimes even their own vehicles,

It wasn't all work and no play for these boys though, They were lucky enough to take a field tr ip, "The tr ip to Chicago to see the car show was the best part of the whole year: student Chris Crump recalled, "It was so cool to see all those awesome cars1: he added,

This years' Cheerleading squad started off a little differently than usual, Instead of having Just one pr imary squad for football and basketba l l girls had the oppor tuni ty to t ry out to cheer for which team they preferred, or they could also f ry out and cheer for both squads,

Junior Lyndsey Fisher expressed her opinion on the two-squad system, "It was a lot dif ferent f work ing with different people, bu t if was also nice to give people who were in other sports a chance to do one or the other," she said,

As the season went on the girls and their coaches decided if was time to get more involved in the community, The girls held a bake sale to raise money; they also had Santa come to Elizabeth's Garden so parents could get pictures of their children with him, The money raised was used to buy pickets for the town's new park project,

Overall the girls felt t ha t they had a good season this year from cheering the football team to a new school record, cheering the basketball team to keep the bell, and then helping out in the community, With many juniors returning nexy year, the girls hope for another good season,

The 2 0 0 6 Cross Country team was small but had great potential, and tha t was shown through freshman Lauren Shaffer , a long with juniors Jesse Good and Jon Green, The team did great as a whole, bu t Lauren was the only runner from Culver to qualify for Regionals,

Lauren was the only freshman on the team for 2006 , "Sectionals were pretty fun," she quoted, She said her best memory was being In front of Banfield, a state champion from CGA, for the first 100 yards at Sectionals,

No one on the team had a huge secret to their secsess, They would mostly sleep on the bus while r iding to the away meets, and once they got there, they would stretch a little bit, Then they would run a little bit of the course Just to see wha t it looked like,

Lauren making it to Regionals was great, The team may have been small bu t t ha t was not a set back for them a t all, Our school was very proud of their success,

The senior class of 2007 had a lot of influence over their four years a t Culver; this influence was part icularly evident on the boys' basketball team, The team consisted of five seniors dur ing the 2 0 0 6 -2DD7 season,

One g radua t ing team member was Kody Snyder, Kody earned the honor of hitting the 1,000-career-points mark this season, This landmark was hit dur ing the Cavs' game against Westville, The entire crowd new the moment was coming, and everyone waited in intense anticipation, When the shot went in, a time out was called, and Kody was able to take the game ball to his dad in the stands, Varsity head coach Mr, Berndt stated, "It was a great personal accomplishment for Kody, It's never been done before in this school: Indeed, Kody Sv\yder was the very first male player in Cavalier basketball history to achieve this great honor,

The 2DD6-2DD7 J,V, boys' basketball season did not go as well as everyone hoped, With low numbers to star t the season, a few of the boys had to dress both J,V, and Varsity teams, However, this didn't br ing the boys down; it made them even more committed to their team,

The J,V, season had its difficulties, Sophomore Justin Master commented, "It was rough a t times, basically because we didn't have a lot of experience," Even though the season was not a complete success, the boys still enjoyed themselves and worked hard,

To help prepare for upcoming games, the team would have practices tha t involved intense scrlmages, The Varsity normally ran their offensive plays against the J,V„ who ran defenses tha t other teams may have run, This is also t rue the other way around, Sophomore Adam Neace commented, "Practice is where we get to push ourselves to the extreme and show the coaches how bad we wan t if," For some of the J,V, players, their effort paid off and they received their chance to pick up more playing time and make their J,V, commitment wor th crowning,

Jhey also had a new coach this year, Joel Lowe, The girls worked well with him and got many wins,

The JV team had to play with only 5 girls in the tournament, Even though some consider this a maior set back the girls played their hardest and beat LaVille by one point in overtime,

Because of the low numbers, some of the juniors had to play both JV and Varsity, The girls who played both were Alicia Allen, Tiffany Leyva, and Reannon Lewis, These girls were very important to both teams, They had to play different positions for both teams, which can be very diff icult because they had to adjust to both positions all in one night,

As a team the JV played together really well, They have been play ing together since 6th grade, which helps a lot because they all know how each person plays,

Although the JV had a good season, they will continue to Improve and get better throughout the years,

The Varsity girls basketball team had a record of 6 and 15, But records don't say everything abou t the basketball season, These girls never accepted loosing, They would always go out on the floor and give if their all,

The team started the year out with a few injuries, senior Molly Har tman, who had already injured her wrist dur ing volleyball, and senior Nicole Wentzle who could not play a t all dur ing the season due to back injuries, Al though these injuries set the team back some, they managed to pull together and have a great season,

For one practice the seniors got to make the practice schedule, Each senior got to choose two drills and tell the team why they choose the drill and how it applies to a game, This was very helpful to the team because they learned why they were doing these drills and how it

The wrestl ing season of 2DD6-2DD7 was an exciting and outstanding one for the wrestlers, There were several wrestlers t ha t were very satisfied with their wrestl ing season, including )uv\iorJohv\ G\mrd who made it to Semi-state, While some were satisfied, others would have liked to make it farther, Freshman Robert Molebash expressed this sentiment by saying, "I wish I could have gone to Semi-State,"

Advanc ing in competive wrestl ing this year was not all abou t Just going out on the mat and want ing to win the match, the team members had to work hard to get there, because not many things come easily in wrestling, There are things tha t have to be worked towards to be able to wrestle,

Losing weight was something tha t most wrestlers have to deal with, In order to make weight, a lot of wrestlers will be hungry bu t still not eat, But something as diff icult as self-deprivat ion may seem extremely difficult, these wrestlers know wha t they have to do in order to compete, When asked how he feels abou t having to lose weight: Troy Kawffman said, "Im fine with it, its not hard," The 2DD6-

The school year ended with a baseball record of 4-23, Al though this wasn't a great record, the boys had come a long way because the 2DD6-2DD7 team was mostly rookies, Sophomore Alex Lazo said, "The baseball team had a disadvantage of underclassmen,"

With nine players star t ing each game, four of the six seniors were starters, That left the baseball team with 5 to 6 underclassmen start ing,

Often underclassmen started and were sometimes in the games more than seniors, Although if sounds like a bad situation it may have helped the underclassmen get prepared for the next year,

This year wasnt one of the best for the baseball players, They are still s tay ing s t rong and all wish for a better record next year,

Jhe cheerleadmg squad t radit ional ly spends the night a t the school the Friday before homecoming, Jhe girls stay up, almost all night, to hang streamers, blow up balloons, and paint posters, However, on the night of September 1, 2DD6, there was a little something extra t ha t had made this spirit week different from any previous year,

The Junior cheerleaders added a little something extra to the night by playing a prank on all the underclassmen, According to one of the cheerleaders who pulled off the hoax, Kylie Gunder, "The prank was the best pa r t of the whole night!" The reaction was a little dif ferent from one squad member who was a victim of the prank, Sophomore KaWe Thompson recalled, "I was so scared that I cried, bu t if was fun after they told us,"

Even though there were some distractions, the squad still managed to adorn the halls in time, The decorations were as beautiful as always, and the whole school was pumped for

Dki September 8, 2006, the Homecoming Court was well prepared to have a fun night, Homecoming Court is announced a week before Homecoming, so the nominees only had seven days to prepare! Finding the ideal escort and the perfect dress was part of being nominated for court, Everyone on the field looked outstanding but when asked about getting ready for the big day, the girls had lots of different answers,

When the question was brought up about how she felt going shopping for court, Ashley Robbins said, "I was enthusiastic to find the perfect dress," Some nominees said that they didn't go shopping; they used previous dresses from other events, like junior Emily Jenkinson did, She said, "I didn't go shopping; I Just used my Prom dress from last year: However, finding a dress is Just part of this special night,

Once the dress has been found, locating an escort was somewhat difficult for a lot of the court members that week because they couldn't fake football players, The court members said they all had problems, Alex Hnatusko responded, "I had a few in mind, but I chose Brad because I thought we would have a fun time together," when asked if she knew who she was taking with her for her big day,

Each year at Culver High School, the one event that is always looked forward to is Sports Spectacular, 2 0 0 6 - 2 0 0 7 was no different, The entire student body was alive with excitement in ant ic ipat ion for the 2007 Sports Spectacular, For weeks before, classes prepared for the competit ion, choosing themes, finding dancers, signing up for events, and decorat ing their respective walls,

For the individuals who simply at tended on Friday night, Sports Spectacular may have seemed to be Just a series of relays, they did not see the hows put in prior to the actual event, One often-overlooked aspect of the competit ion is the wall decorat ing contest, After each class chose a theme, they had to sketch out an idea for their port ion of the wall and purchase supplies for decorat ing,

With their paints, paper, tape, and ladders in hand, small groups of students from each grade stayed after school each day the whole week leaing up to the competit ion on N\arch 16, "We had a really great theme and work ing on the wall was so much fun this year," Shannon Dwnfee
