    ALBANY HILLCLIMB SATURDAY BIKE DISPLAY

From the Captain…Mid Week Ride 14th October

Captain’s midweek morning run we had 4 bikes turn up for a ride to Waroona. The weather looking good as we set off for the back roads. The only traffic we got was the cows crossing the road which left wet cow poo across the road. Empty roads was all good got to Waroona for a cuppa and tell stories then on the way home took some more back roads back home. All up a good day for a bike ride.

Steve & Hamish run to Augusta

Beautiful weekend early 20’s as we all gathered at Boyanup car park for the start. All was good as we headed to Capel. Then there was a change of direction so corner markers were used. We got back on the route sheet and had a stop at Rosa brook. Pretty little general store where fuel &

From the Captain…food was the order. Next stop to Karridale pub for food & fuel and tell more stories. From there we meandered to the beach, then headed to Augusta to check out the lighthouse and book in for the night. Night time came and the fashion show started with the knitted jumpers that came out. Very impressive. Next morning to Hamish’s house for some breakfast and then headed out to Nannup. I nearly made it, but some problems with the BSA made it trailer bait. So in the backup. A good ride through the local roads to Kirrup for a stop, then to Donnybrook and to the finish line in Boyanup. All up a good week end spent. Thanks to Hamish & Steve and all the other people to make this happen.

    Busselton Mob Mid-Week Ride 21st October 2020

This was planned as a mystery ride, and that proved true for the Tail-End-Charlie and one rider, who never made the destination? If they read this, they will discover it was Donnelly River Village. Corner-marker failure; pity about that. Heads will roll.

The course from Busselton went direct to Nannup for a leg-break and Bunbury rider’s pick-up. Then a spin on Brockman Highway, Stallard Road to DRV. About 91klms all up. No rain to the destination but some light stuff on the home journey.

The DRV cafe catered Okay and all enjoyed the veranda chat plus the visiting birds and wildlife.

Thanks to Tony Griffiths for being the Tail-end-Charlie. His delayed departure from Nannup was due to a bike not wanting to start. A Triumph I believe.

The next planned ride will have Tom French as leader. Many of the regulars (including me) will be on the three day adventure trip to Jurien Bay.

    Midweek AM Run 28th October

The lovely sunshine brought out 18 riders and 2 lady passengers for the ride up to Collie. Good to see Johnny Clapp and Tracy back on two wheels again after his recent hand surgery. We meandered through the back blocks of Bunbury to Dardanup West, up Ironstone Rd, onto Ferguson Rd to the Preston Valley store where we turned left to Mumballup and up the hill to Collie. Here we met Neville and Margaret Green, who arrived on four wheels, as Neville isn’t back in the saddle yet after having his bionic knee fitted. A pleasant hour or so was spent drinking coffee and chewing the fat before heading back to Bunbury via Mornington Rd and the S W Highway. A couple of us stopped at the Brunswick bakery to check on the quality of the pies before going home, some things you just have to do. A good ride with very good company.

    Albany Hillclimb Weekend 31st October

Friday morning and off to Albany for the annual pilgrimage. It was hot that day, and that night, fuelled with alcohol, we told lots of stories about past bike champions. It was a good night. Saturday morning heavy drizzle for a change. At least it was the morning, as the afternoon came around the roads dried up for the poker run. I didn’t see any bikes that had broken down, so all was

good. It was a good turn up of bikes for the bike show and the ladies singing songs in the rotunda. Always good to see the local talent.

Sunday Morning, yes, heavy drizzle again. But by our second practice run the road dried up and smiles all round. All went well, no injuries, just a few bikes did not want to play. At the end of the day Leigh Cresswell was the outright winner, and Murray & Macca took out the best sidecar. All up a good way to spend a weekend.

    Busso run to Jurien bay

Wednesday morning beautiful weather. The Bunbury boys were waiting at Brunswick for the Busso b o y s . A l l good, then off to Pinjarra to have morning tea and pick up the Mandurah m o b . A l l good, then to do battle and g e t t h r o u g h Perth and stop at Gingers road house. All p r e s e n t , w e then proceeded north and headed to Jurien bay. No break downs, only a Manjimup person dropped his favourite pillow which was passed to the backup trailer. We got to Jurien and Doug was reunited with his pillow (tears of joy).

That evening the Mandurah boys started to hydrate themselves with the help of a young lass wearing her underwear. Lots of stories

were told that night. I forgot to pass on the message that the caravan park side gate is locked after 8 o’clock, so 3 drunken people made their way to the main entrance.

Thursday morning all good, we headed to Ian Boyd’s house to see his collection. Always good to see and more stories were told. After thanking Ian for seeing his bikes we headed to Beverley for our second stop. The only mishap was JC lost his rear brake lever. Parts from the trailer were used so that John had a back brake again. A stop over at Moora where Rod added 2 litres of diesel to his tank before it was stopped, and JC got some bolts to repair his bike and return the trailer parts.

    B e v e r l e y w a s reached, but some of the lads were s t i l l r ecover ing f r o m t h e n i g h t before so not much lubrication. Dinner was good and more stories told. In the morning breakfast of bacon, eggs, tomato and toast was on the menu.

Next was the ride home. There was

less traffic than up north and more twisty parts which was very welcome.

Thanks to the Busso boys & Frank to make this happen.

    4-6th November 2020

This was a special multi-day ride - the first on my watch. It started at 7.30am in Busselton and then picked up both Bunbury and Mandurah Mob members on route and headed off to Jurien Bay. In all, about a 1,250km return trip.

At Jurien Bay we visited Ian Boyd’s bike museum, a fantastic collection of vintage bikes. Most were built between 1936 and 1955 and all are British machines. This is a quality display and a credit to Ian’s love of machinery. For more information, visit Ian’s website. It’s worth it.

Day 2 was a great ride (apart from some gravel road-works) to Beverley via Moora, Toodyay and York. We then enjoyed the deal-of-the-decade at the Beverley Hotel: $65 for accommodation, dinner and breakfast. Or host, John Maxwell, went out of his way to make us welcome. Day 3 was the homeward bound stretch with most riders splitting off after Boddington.

Our ride leader, Frank Barron, did a great job of planning and organising the 3 day event. He also arranged perfect riding weather. Thank you Frank.

Thanks also must go to Gordon Douglas (a non-member) for being the back-up man. He was adeptly assisted by Peter Whiteside, our TEC, riding his new Honda. Apparently the only drama was a flat battery on the last day.

Thinking about a similar ride for 2021. Stay tuned ……………………….

17 riders & 1 pillion set off on a overcast cool day, but no rain, to Busselton.

Even had three Code 404 bikes turn up. Proceeded to Boyanup, Capel & via backroads over to Terry’s shed. Terry & several Busselton members were waiting for us & had a wonderful afternoon tea ready. Plenty of bikes in The Bunker to look at as well as various bits & bobs in the shed. Dan even rode his Penny Farthing over to see us. Thanks to Terry & his helpers for their hospitality.

My wife got really mad at me - she said I had absolutely no sense of direction. So I packed my bags and right!

My wife told me to take the spider out instead of killing him. So we went out, had a few drinks and got on quite well. Turns out he’s a web designer.

I ordered a chicken and an egg on Amazon. I’ll let you know.

I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes. She gave me a hug.

My wife told me to cheer up - she said I could be stuck in a hole full of water. I know she means well.

    Have you heard this one?…
