Introduction

• In this slide show I will be teaching you about some of the classic stars of 1930-1950s. I will be teaching you some basic facts about there lives careers and deaths.

Cary Grant

• Cary Grant was born in Bristol England 1904 his original name was Archibald Alexander Leach his mother was put in a mental asylum.

• Cary Grant went to Fairfield Grammar School he was expelled in 1918 for “investigating the girls bathroom”.

• Cary began his acting career after his expulsion by joining the Bob Pender Stage Troupe and touring the U.S.A.

• After the tour Cary Grant decided to stay in America and continue in his stage career he acted in many shows during the year 1931 leading up to some major performances the made him a well know actor.

• Cary Grant died 1986 he was 82 years old.

Humphrey Bogart

• Was born 1899 in New York city his middle name was Deforest

• Went to Trinity School in New York and then later went on to go to the Phillips Academy his parents had hoped he would go to Yale but was expelled from Phillips Academy in 1918.

• Humphrey Bogart played many roles for Warner's Bros most of them second lead villains. He had a long career and acted in many films.

• Humphrey Bogart died at the age of 58 in 1957. He died of cancer in the esophagus.

Elizabeth Taylor

• Born 1932 in London England. Her middle name was Rosemond.• Elizabeth acted in her first movie at the age of nine it was Come

Home Lassie. After a few more movies she got her first leading role in National Velvet. She became the highest paid actor when she accepted the role of Cleopatra for which she was paid 1 million U.S dollars. She also appeared on a number of TV shows.

• Elizabeth Taylor is still alive today and is aged 78.

Maureen O’Hara

• Born 1920 in Dublin Ireland. She doesn't have a middle name.

• She began acting at the age of 14 with the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. She was married for the first time at the age of 17 but was divorced soon after. A few years after her third marriage in 1968 she retired.

• She has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and is still alive today.

Errol Flynn• Born 1909 in Tasmania Australia full name

Errol Leslie Thomson Flynn• Errol was expelled from two schools before

the age of 16. He then found a job working as a shipping clerk in Sydney Australia. The next year he sailed to New Guinea to work for the government but this failed to be adventurous enough for him. In pursuit of a new adventurous career he brought a copper mine and tobacco plantation in New Guinea both of which failed. Errol’s acting career started with In The Wake Of The Bounty. Errol became an over night sensation as a swashbuckler and was asked to act in many movies including Robin Hood.

• Errol Flynn died of a heart attack and was buried with six bottles of whiskey, a gift from his drinking buddies.

Gregory Peck

• Born 1916 California USA full name Eldred Gregory Peck

• Unlike many actors Gregory went right through school and attended university. He was on the university rowing team and was also introduced to acting during his time at university. Gregory by no means had it easy struggling to pay his university fees of $26. during his acting career he was nominated for best actors award five times. In the 1980s Gregory moved from movies to television.

• He died in 2003 from cardio respiratory arrest.

Marilyn Monroe

• Born 1926 in California birth name Norma Jeanne Mortenson

• Norma changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in 1956. Her acting career didn’t start till 1946. Her first starring role wasn’t till 1952 in Don’t Bother To Knock. Marilyn's career lasted until 1962. During this time she acted in many films and rose to stardom.

• Marilyn Munroe died in 1962. She was only 36.

Conclusion

• I hope that you have learnt something about these famous film stars from the 1930-50s. These are only a few of the famous actors and actresses from that era.
