18 th October 2017 Classes for 2018 Late last term I asked for parents whose children will not be returning in 2018 to let the school know in writing. Thank you to those parents who have sent in letters or emails. As workforce planning is underway and I would appreciate anyone who has not yet contacted us to do so ASAP. It is also very important that you let us know which school your child will be attending next year so that Sarah can successfully transfer them to the school. Due to increased enrolments we will be having three Foundation (Prep) classes in 2018 that will be taken by Maria Pase, Sonia Robinson and Kate Pickburn/Emma James. There will be one less Year 1/2 class with the current Year 1 students in both J3P and J2L being merged together in Tristan Liao’s class. Our current Prep students will be split between the Year 1/2 classes. Along with the classes mentioned we also have our Year 2’s and Year 3’s transitioning to the 3/4 and 5/6 areas. In relation to the placement of children in classes, our Class Placement Policy states: While the allocation of children to various classes is ultimately the responsibility of the principal, a collaborative process with the assistant principal, teachers and team leaders will be used. The principal, in consultation with staff and after considering student enrolment numbers, will determine the number of classes for the following year and class sizes. Each area team, led by the team leader, will be required to work collaboratively to create draft classes of students. Consideration will be given to educational needs, gender, each child’s developmental level, behaviour and friendship groups. The individual needs of a child and a whole school perspective must be considered. Junior classes should be smaller whenever practically possible. The principal will formally seek input from parents via the newsletter and Compass. All parent input must be based on demonstrable academic or social needs and directed to the principal in writing only. Parental preference for individual teaching staff, including staff gender, based on grounds other than recommendations from external agencies is not considered appropriate criteria for the placement of children. If you feel you need to put forward a letter with input in to your child’s placement could you please have it to me, not the class teacher, by Friday, October 27th. As class placement is very complex, requests will be considered but cannot always be accommodated as the needs of ALL children and the overall make-up of classes need to be considered. Friday 20th October

I am excited to announce a new and special fundraising to our school this year. For the first time, Roberts McCubbin and CUA will join forces and hold a COLOUR RUN on Friday 20th October. The money raised will go towards much needed outdoor furniture and benches to enhance our outdoor area and also new sports uniforms. Our target is to raise $10,000 dollars by the start of the run. Help us achieve our goal!

What is a colour run? It is an event series usually consisting of a 5km run paint race promoting health awareness and fundraising for a cause. For our students, we will be setting up an obstacle course on the oval at school. The run will be held at different intervals during the day according to age groups. There will be a few stations along the course where the kids will run through powders of different colours. The powder is nontoxic, biodegradable, safe and most of all FUN. The colours will be aimed at the body and not the face for safety.

How Does My Child Fundraise? All students will receive a Sponsorship Form where the money collected is to be noted. Students can use the back of this form to collect cash donations, noting down their supporters for ease.

Students who raise just $10 or more will receive a reward for effort (prize). The more you raise, the bigger the prize. We have educated students on the dangers of door knocking without adult supervision, and we advise you reiterating this at home. The best people to ask for sponsorship are people you know (eg. friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours).

Online Fundraising The easiest way to help your child raise money is through online fundraising. Students raise an average of $120 using online fundraising, which really benefits all involved; plus you don’t have to worry about handling money! To set up online fundraising, please visit: schoolfunrun.com.au, click on student and sign up and register your child.

Please keep reading the Newsletter and Compass for more information. Thank you, good luck and happy fundraising!

Thank you to all parents that have contacted me to help. We still require a few helpers to make the day fantastic.

Walk to School this October to earn points for your school and be in

the running for fantastic school prizes

Our school has, again, registered for Walk to School and we are encouraging all students to walk, ride or scoot to school as many times as possible during the month of October.

At the end of each week classes will tally their total number of walks and the class with the most will receive the “Golden Shoe” award for the week.

We are also continuing “Wheelie Wednesdays” where students are encouraged to come to school on Wednesdays in October via wheels such as bike, scooter, skateboard or roller skates. There will be an extra “Golden Wheel” award each week for the class with the highest tally.

If your child wishes to ride or scoot to school provision will be made to accommodate their bike/scooter for the day.

Walk to School encourages primary school children to walk to and from school every day in October, to highlight the ways walking improves children’s health and wellbeing.

By getting involved in Walk to School, your school can help students learn healthy habits, and achieve the 60 minutes of physical activity recommended for children each day.

Walking to school can also help reduce traffic congestion, parking difficulties and the associated environmental impacts.

All participating schools will receive student certificates to celebrate their students’ achievements, and will be in the running for regional prizes provided by VicHealth.

All students can enter VicHealth’s fun walking-themed competitions throughout October. Visit www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au for more information.

If you have any questions regarding this program please see Jayne McConnell in the the 5/6 area.

What’s the news?

Hi all, I hope you are enjoying the warm weather. Transition Morning Teas are coming up

next week and all our kids will be preparing for their next moves at school. This is an

exciting time for the kids and I hope all yours enjoy their new experiences. The school

does a great job of helping the children with any difficulties they have, so it needn’t be

an anxious time for them when the new year starts.

Have a great week and don’t forget your mango orders!
