Indicator to assess a student’s

rigor and effort.

● Class Rank: individual

placement of a student’s

weighted GPA in relation to

other students’ GPAs in their

graduating class.

● Transcript: official high

school record of all courses a

student takes and the grades

they receive.

Automatic admission to a Texas Public College or University is available to

students who graduate in the top 10% of their class on state Distinguished

Level of Achievement Graduation Plan.

● Students are assured admission to the college, but not always their

desired major.

● Students must apply by the deadline set by the college/university.

University of Texas at Austin Automatic Admission varies by year.

Class of 2018 – Top 7%

Class of 2019 – Top 6%

Class of 2020- Top 6%

Distinguished Level of Achievement Graduation PlanEnglish – 4 credits

Math – 4 credits*including Alg 2

Science – 4 credits

Social Studies – 3 credits

Foreign Language – 2 credits

P.E. – 1 credit

Fine Art – 1 credit

Health – ½ credit

Electives – 6 ½ credits

Total # of Credits needed 26*If you are taking the multidisciplinary endorsement track, you need 4 years of Social Studies!

We encourage all GISD students to start on the Distinguished Level of Achievement Graduation Plan with a Multidisciplinary endorsement & choose an additional

endorsement pathway!

One endorsement is required by Texas House Bill 5 for

graduation

may change/add endorsements as they navigate high school.

Exploring the Endorsement Pathways

Required:

1. ELA: English I or Pre-AP English I

2. Math: Determined through successful completion of your

current 8th grade math class (Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra

2)

3. Social Studies: World Geography or AP Human Geography

4. Science: Biology or Pre-AP Biology

Remaining courses are taken based on student’s PGP/ Four Year

Plan:

5. Language Other Than English (French, German, Spanish)

6. Physical Activity/ Athletics

7. Endorsement Elective

8. Fine Art or Health/additional .5 credit elective

● Content is challenging and will require more time outside of the school

day.

● Pre-AP courses prepare for the challenge of AP, dual credit, and

On-ramps courses.

● Organization and time management skills are needed in order to be

successful.

● Enrolling in Pre-AP courses is an individual decision - maintain a

healthy balance.

● For identified Gifted/Talented students, the appropriate course

selection is Pre-AP/AP.

● By the end of January: 8th graders will complete a draft of their

PGP/Four Year Plan

● February 3rd: 8th grade students will bring home their 9th

Grade Course Selection Worksheet to review with parents

● February 7th (Friday): all 9th Grade Course Selection

Worksheets are due to their current middle school science or

social studies teacher.

● April: Verification Letters will be sent to families to complete

any course changes.

○ Please note that course changes will only be made during the

verification window.

GISD Schedule Change Guidelines1. Error in schedule confirmed by counselor and the

course verification form. If the course verification

form was not returned, this request will be denied.

2. A student is unsuccessful in a prerequisite course

3. Change in program (athletics, band, choir, orchestra,

etc.)

4. Level change request for a student moving from an

advanced course to an on-level course during the

Level Change Window (3rd-6th week of the first

semester)
