Introduction
This report analyzes the employment and graduate school status (known through this report as Career Outcomes) for
people who graduated in December 2015, April 2016 and August 2016 (known in this report as the Class of 2016). This
report contains information on graduates from the College of Architecture, Design & Construction Management, the
College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering & Technology and the College of Professional & Continuing
Education. Included in this report is the knowledge rate and career outcome rate for each major, school and the
Institute. Employers and starting salaries by major are included as is graduate school, degree and area of study.
Graduates were asked to provide information on their favorite memory of their time at Wentworth, which is provided at
the end of this report.
National Standards
In January 2014, the Board of Directors for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) approved guidelines regarding the collection and reporting of student career outcomes. Definitions and timelines were established and introduced to college career centers. NACE established these guidelines in response to the national question of the value of higher education at a time of escalating costs associated with earning a degree. The federal Department of Education is also establishing a national scorecard where colleges will be required to post information about their student success post-graduation. To ensure Wentworth Institute of Technology meets the national standards, the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, also known as Co-ops + Careers, utilized the NACE methods of data collection and reporting. This report will use two terms uncommon to most readers.
“The term ‘knowledge rate’ defines the percent of graduates for which the institution has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduates’ post-graduation career activities.
o This information may come directly from the graduates via, for example, a survey method. Relevant data, however, may also be provided by employers, or obtained through other sources (e.g., LinkedIn profiles, other online sources, fellow graduates, or parents). The institution should make good faith efforts to verify the information obtained by any source other than the graduate or in any case where there is some concern about the accuracy of the available information.
o The goal should be the highest possible rate, but institutions should strive for a minimum knowledge rate of 65 percent. The knowledge rate refers to basic information about the career outcomes of graduates (e.g., employed or continuing education). It is a given that in some instances certain information relative to the details of that status (e.g., salary for those employed) may not always be provided or may otherwise be difficult to obtain.
Career Outcomes data concerning individual graduates should be organized into standardized categories. Individual graduates should be included in the appropriate category that best represents their primary activity upon graduation. While in certain instances, graduates may be pursuing multiple activities (e.g., working part time and taking graduate courses), their status should only be reported once in their primary area of activity.”i

Methodology
In April 2016 and August 2016, the Cap and Gown survey was administered to all bachelor’s and master’s degree
students who participated in the commencement exercises that included the December 2015 graduates, netting
responses from 780 people. Six months after each graduation, a survey was sent, via Survey Monkey, to graduates who
responded at commencement that they were not yet employed nor accepted into graduate school. In February 2016,
Co-ops + Careers researched on LinkedIn graduates who did not respond to the survey who were not employed at
commencement nor indicated that they were going on to graduate school. This yielded information on 69 graduates, 11
of which verified their LinkedIn information via email. We also received information from six faculty and confirmed two.
Through these efforts, we received knowledge of 521 of the 780 participants of both commencement exercises, yielding
a 67% knowledge rate for day and CPCE students combined.
Executive Summary
Our knowledge rate of 67% is consistent this year to last year as is our Career Outcomes rate of 98%. The median salary
of our graduates is also the same as last year at $60,000 and meets the national median salary for the class of 2016 as
reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers Salary Survey published Fall 2016. Significantly more
graduates have accepted a position from their co-op employer than have in the past, up to 42% from 27%. Therefore,
more graduates were offered positions from their co-op employers, up to 59% from 41%. Of those that are employed,
92% of the day students and 93% of CPCE students report that their work is related to their academic major, down
slightly from last year’s 95% of day students. This year, 10 employers hired at least five members of the class of 2016.
Most our students continue to live in the Northeast with Massachusetts overwhelmingly having the most, followed by
New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine. Outside of New England, many of our students are working in New York,
California and New Jersey. Of those that we have data, 10% of our students are going on to graduate school. The
majors that are sending the most to graduate school are: Architecture, Computer Information Systems, Biomedical
Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Project Management. Most students are continuing this education at Wentworth.
More than one are heading to Northeastern and UConn. Some of the unique schools to which an alumnus is attending
are: the University of Sydney, Texas A&M, UT-Austin, Georgia Institute of Technology, MIT, Johns Hopkins and University
of Michigan-Dearborn. Most our students are seeking a M. Arch followed by a MS. One each is seeking a MBA,
doctorate and a Master of Education.
Outcomes
For the second year, the survey asked graduates from the College of Professional and Continuing Studies about the
impact their Wentworth education has had on their professional life. Of those that reported, 70% reported receiving a
promotion and 70% reported receiving a salary increase. Eighty-six percent reported that job opportunities are available
to them now that were not prior to their degree, 96% reported that their job performance has improved, 93% reported
that their technical knowledge and skills have improved and 97% report feeling more confident in the workplace. Using
the learning outcomes of each of the day program’s majors, the survey, for the first time, asked questions to measure
the effectiveness of the education at Wentworth. This data is reported on for each major and may be used for
accreditation purposes.

My amazing suitemates, minus 1
My favorite memory at Wentworth was working hard with my fellow peers. Working on group projects helped me gained a lot of skills and prepared me for working with groups in my career.
My favorite memory would have to be running a 200 mile Ragnar Relay race with incredible Wentworth students, faculty and staff and rasing money for our Student Emergency Fund. #WentworthIT
My favorite Wentworth memory in general was just spending time with my fellow classmates that made this a wonderful college journey.
My favorite Wentworth Memory is definitely the two Wentworth Balls I attended. Very efficient at great locations.
My favorite Wentworth memory is how the school came together during the Marathon bombings during the finals of my freshman year. I also am so grateful for all of the wonderful professors and mentors that have helped me along the way. And I am so thankful for my friends.

For Capstone, we were able to speak on the phone with a now retired government official. I thought that was pretty cool to be able to talk to someone that worked at his level. But I think my favorite memory will be graduation!
