Technical Colleges

ProgramsTechnical Certificates of Credit can be completed in less than a year and offer education specific to on the job performance. The certificate courses are strictly program-related and can later be applied towards earning a diploma or degree.

A Diploma Program typically takes a year and a half to complete and broadens your base of knowledge beyond the core courses found in a TCC. Diploma programs consist of program-related courses as well as general core courses such as English, Math, and Science.

An Associate's Degree is highest-level credential you can earn at most technical colleges. The degree programs contain in-depth industry related subjects and high-level college courses that give you the relevant knowledge you'll need on the job.

Did you know??

Gwinnett Technical College offers more than 50 programs of study that a student can finish in two years or less.

What is the difference between the ACT and the SAT? ACT questions tend to be more straightforward The SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary The ACT has a science section, the SAT does not

Simply tests your reading and reasoning skills when given a set of facts

The ACT tests more advanced math concepts But not necessarily harder because the questions are more

straightforward The ACT writing test is optional on test day, but required

by many schools. The SAT has a required writing portion

The SAT is broken up into more sections The ACT is more of a “big picture” exam

schools are more concerned with your composite school rather than each section

Page 14: Class of 2016 Senior Presentation Everything you need to know to be a successful Senior at JCCHS!

How many schools should I apply to?

Dream School or Reach School Likely—a pretty good chance of

getting in Safety—a sure thing for admission

and cost

Ultimately, deciding how many schools to apply to is a family decision. However, counselors generally recommend to consider applying to one to two schools in each category.

Applying Early?Early decision and early action plans allow students to apply early (usually by October or November) and get an admissions decision

December or January.

Early Decision versus Early ActionEarly decision plans are binding. A student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college.Early action plans are similar but are not binding, which means students receive an early response but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1.

Please check the policies of the individual colleges/universities you are applying to if you are applying early.
