Introduction & Highlights
Each year, the Hamline University Career Development Center conducts a survey of the previous year’s graduating class regarding their post-graduation employment status. All students, a total of 418 graduates, receiving a bachelor’s degree from July 2011 to June 2012 were surveyed. The initial round of data was collected via the web beginning in April 2013. Non-respondents were then contacted via paper mailings. Additional data was obtained by locating the graduates’ LinkedIn or other online profiles. Data collection ultimately found information for 254 graduates.
Highlights of the acquired data:
• a 61% response rate (254/418)
• 90.9% of graduates were employed Full-Time, performing ‘Volunteer Services Full-Time’ (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, etc.), or ‘Pursuing Additional Education Full-Time’

Employment Status
The majority of respondents, 172 graduates, are employed full-time and make up 67.7% of responders. By comparison, 39 participants (15.4%) are employed part-time while 23 (9.1%) are neither working nor seeking employment. Only 4 graduates (1.6%) are unemployed and seeking work. Sixteen (6.3%) are participating in Volunteer Services or Unpaid Internship opportunities.
Education Status
A total of 43 graduates, 16.9% of total respondents, are pursuing further education. Of those, 4 alumni are seeking PhDs or similar degrees (9.3%), 13 are seeking Professional degrees (30.2%), 24 will be receiving Master’s degrees (55.8%). One respondent (2.3%) pursued a certification and one other sought an unidentified degree (2.3%).

Types of Employment
Out of the 170 alumni providing data on their types of employment, 108 Pipers (63.5%) indicated they are working in the Private Sector. The next highest category was Nonprofit organizations, including those in the heathcare field, with 32 graduates (18.8%), followed by Education with 18 alumni (10.6%) in the field. Government employed 10 graduates (5.9%), while 2 Pipers identified as self-employed (1.2%).
Salary Range Information
Survey results indicated that of the 104 respondents providing salary information, 31 (29.8%) were earning $30,001 to $40,000 annually. The next highest number of graduates were making $20,001 to $30,000 a year with 30 (28.8%) respondents. Seventeen Pipers were earning $40,001 to $50,000 (16.3%), closely followed by 14 respondents (13.5%) making $1 to $20,000 per year. Seven graduates (6.7%) reported earnings in the range of $50,001 to $60,000, 5 (4.8%)were earning $60,001 to $70,000.
