graduated CCNY; their professions were professor of physics, professor of physical medicine and electrical engineer. My sister, a Hunter graduate, became an elementary school teacher and I became a public health professional. The above is a great example of what a free education can do for and give back to society. Milton Strauss B.S., Ph.D. “After graduating from the proletarian Harvard I went to the other one and obtained a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I refer to those five years as my training, for I was really educated at City. Life was a bit peripatetic for a while after that: four years at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, three at Wayne State University in Detroit, and then 15 years in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins. Baltimore became my home town - it was where my sons Jonathan and Matthew grew up and where almost 22 years ago I met my current wife, Donna Kwilosz, also a psychologist. We migrated back to the edge of the Midwest (but we are on eastern time!) 13 years ago, to Case Western Reserve University, where I've been director of the doctoral program in clinical psychology since 1990. There have been many high points along the way (and, as I'd expect for all of us, some lows as well). I've been fortunate in my work to be involved in interesting problems (cognitive aspects of schizophrenia and Huntington's disease, depression in dementia) with good colleagues, to be editor of a primary journal of the American Psychological Association, the Journal of Abnormal Psychology (and about to begin a stint as editor of another, Psychological Assessment), to work with trainees in their development as clinicians, and to have some very fine graduate students. And so too have I been blessed in my personal life - I have two fine sons from my first marriage, a wonderful partner in life since 1981, and on my 60th birthday the birth of Eric, our grandson. Now that was a birthday present! Eric, his mother Deb, his dad Matt, and Jonathan all live in Denver. Though that's a far piece now, it won't be after retirement (whenever that may be) when Donna and I plan on settling in the desert southwest, exchanging tall buildings for the big skies of high desert. I continue to be grateful for how well served we were by City! Like so many others, I was the first in my family to be able to go to college --and only because City was there. How fortunate I was to be educated by some wonderful teachers to be curious, to attend to the world, and to expand both intellectual and personal horizons through life. Expect a note at the 50th reunion from somewhere between Albuquerque and Santa Fe ---- if we are lucky.”
