Last week 2/3 was lucky enough to have a very special visitor! A good friend of ours, Troy came to teach us all about his indigenous culture. We were lucky enough to have Troy bring some amazing items for us to look at, discuss and even hold. He showed us different types of boomerang and told us all about their uses. There was a throwing boomerang as well as a hunting one, they were very interesting and the students enjoyed a discussion about why they had different uses and why they were slightly different shapes. Troy also explained to us that Oka is often used in Aboriginal artwork, body paint and special ceremonies, everyone was very interested! A big hit was the Coolamon, a type of bowl which is used for so many things! From carrying babies to food and water, this amazing tool is useful in so many ways! We also enjoyed learning about all of the symbols that are used within Troys aboriginal artworks, making some fantastic stories of our own! Between Japanese, scripture, music and having some gorgeous puppies visit we were jam packed and super busy. Everyone is doing a great job at the special swimming scheme and we were all so excited to see Mrs Scarpin at the pool this week! We have been working on many important safety skills in the pool to kick off the week. Students have already improved their ability and confidence in sculling water, floating and getting comfortable in the water. Learning new skills, improving and refining what we already know are our ultimate goals for swimming and already we are making amazing progress! A special mention to Courtney who was practising her dives when a loose tooth popped out! I am very impressed with everyone’s efforts and I am pleased to say that everyone is being very sun safe and sensible, being organised with hats, rashies and sunscreen before learning for the pool! More updates next week of the amazing progress we are making! Have a great week! Miss Weldon

Kinder and Year 1 Classroom News Hello from our classroom, where we are now finishing off bits and pieces of our work and preparing for presentation night. We have had many exciting things happening at our school over the last two weeks, including our final swimming for sport last Friday. We all really noticed the difference even three weeks practice can make – so well done to all of our super fish! Congratulations to our award winners for weeks 7 and 8! Our week 7 award winners were:

Abbi - successful learner, for listening actively and completing tasks;

Tommy - confident and creative student, for always being a good friend, and,

Leeroy – active and informed citizen, for participating happily in ALL school activities.

Our week 8 award winners were:

Orren - successful learner, for setting himself realistic goals;

Maliyah - confident and creative student, for showing respect and empathy and being a good friend, and,

Tiller - active and informed citizen, for being a responsible user of technology.

Well done also to our latest fantastic home readers for the year – Lily for 150, Hayden for 250, Tiller for 270, Matika for 290, Stevie for 300, Aalyrah for 680 and Rose for 750 fabulous home readers. All of the children have tried very hard to regularly practise their reading, making them much better and impressive readers for their efforts. Next week is the last week that home readers will be sent home. The week after, we will begin collecting, repairing and stocktaking those books we have back at school. Please return all home readers then to help us complete this task. Congratulations, everyone! You have all done an incredible job! We have a busy week ahead. Next Tuesday we have another orientation session, and again look forward to welcoming our kinder children for 2017 to our school. Parents and carers will also be able to attend an information session, beginning at 9:30 in the staffroom. We also have lots of singing and music practice, and lots of fun Christmas art to do! Have a great week everyone. Remember, any problems or queries, please see me. Kind regards, Mrs Hobbis, Kinder and Year 1 4/5/6 Classroom News Hello from the 4/5/6 classroom, What a busy term we have had. It is hard to believe that it’s week 8 already! Everyone in our classroom has been working hard towards kicking goals this term, with a strong focus on producing quality work. Each student has a Maths, English and Personal goal that they are working on. They have been encouraged to continue practising these goals at home and preparing examples to show to the teacher as observations. It’s important that the kids don’t leave these until the last week, as this often results in disappointment when goals are not kicked. Special Swim Scheme started this week, with several students from the 4/5/6 class attending these daily sessions. While it has caused some disruption to our daily routine, it has been well worth it, with the kids learning some great swimming and water safety skills.

This week some of our year 6 students attended Peer Support camp at Bournda. This is a year 6 camp for students who attend small schools. It provides a great opportunity for the kids to meet other people who they will be attending high school with. I was lucky enough to get to spend the day at camp yesterday and participate in some activities. Our kids are having a fantastic time and enjoying all aspects of camp life. Congratulations to all the year 5 students who spoke for 2018 School Captain at our most recent assembly. They all did a fantastic job! We will find out who our captains will be for 2018 at presentation night in week 9. Just a quick reminder about our class excursion on Tuesday of week 10, where we will be spending time in Merimbula to see the movie ‘Wonder’ and having lunch at the park. After reading the text in class, all of the kids are very excited to see the movie. It will be a great day that we are all looking forward to. Money and notes need to be returned to the office as soon as possible. Thanks. Have a great week, Mrs Ferris.
