REGISTRATION INFORMATION ON BACK SIDE

This class provides an introduction to the world of sewing. We will introduce the following basics: Sewing and Machine Terminology Tools for Sewing Hand Sewing Machine Sewing

Simple, fun projects throughout the week will pique the students interest and enthusiasm for sewing. The student will work on projects that build skills in using and controlling the sewing machine. Stitches include a straight seam, back stitch and zigzag. Projects will include a hand-stitched needle case, pillowcase, and tote bag.

Sewing 101: The student will learn to read patterns and to begin making garments. The emphasis in the class includes the following skills; pattern reading, pattern cutting, marking, elastic waistband, seam finishes and hemming. The projects to build these skills include pajama bottoms, a lunch bag and an apron. Prerequisite Sewing 100

Sewing 102: The student will make a blouse from woven fabric that includes a collar and a button front with sewn on front placket that forms vertical buttonholes. The student will also learn additional sewing techniques and will be encouraged to be more independent when sewing their blouse. Prerequisite Sewing 100 and Sewing 101

Introduction to Crochet (Rosehill): The fundamentals of the portable craft will be introduced. The student will learn the basic crochet stitches needed to produce granny squares. One square can be a patch, two squares can become a pouch, keep adding squares and you can make hats, scarves, placemats, blankets and more. The possibilities are endless once you master the process.

Beginning Crochet (Jennings): Learn to make a chain stitch, a single crochet stitch and the importance of gauge. The projects will be a bracelet with beads, a scarf, a potholder and a bottle cozy.

Introduction to Knitting: The student will be introduced to the tools used when knitting, yarn selection, reading patterns, and the basic knit stitch. Projects will include spool knitting, fingerless gloves and a felted project.

Adults

Beginning Adult Sew: Each student will begin with the basics: sewing room safety, hand sewing, tools for sewing, sewing and machine terminology and care, and machine sewing with straight seams. Simple and fun projects will pique the students interest and enthusiasm for sewing. Your skills will build each day. Beginning projects will include a needle case, a pillowcase, a tote bag and other projects using straight seams, back and zigzag stitching.

Each student is to provide a portable sewing machine in good working order for all sewing classes.

A supply list will be handed out at the Student Orientation & Machine Check

to be held on June 12 - 6:30 - 8:00 pm
