What is Class Builder?Class Builder is used to set up and manage teacher, student and class access to Firefly Online programs: English Stars, Think Mentals Digital Classroom, Sound Waves Online and iMaths Online.

Who can access Class Builder?

You can access Class Builder if you: • are the nominated Class Builder Administrator for your school’s licence

• have purchased your own English Stars or Think Mentals Digital Classroom Teacher Licence through your Firefly Account.

Class Builder is accessed from your Firefly Account page.

Teacher Setup

Reminder:

If access was purchased on behalf of your school, you will need to set up teachers and allocate programs. Remember to allocate yourself programs if applicable.If access was purchased through your own Firefly account for use in your classroom, you will not see the Teachers tab. As the sole teacher on the licence you automatically have access to the programs purchased.

For English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom you will see a summary of available and used seats for the licence at the top of the Teachers tab. For iMaths Online and Sound Waves Online, teacher access is based on student numbers. You may allocate as many teachers as needed to support your iMaths Online and/or Sound Waves Online students.

Teachers can be added from the Teachers tab by selecting Add a Single Teacher or Add Teachers in Bulk.

Add teachers to your licence. See a summary of available and used seats for this licence (if applicable).

Add a Single Teacher

1. Enter the teacher’s email address.

2. Use the Select Program to allocate drop-down menu to choose the program you wish to allocate. Repeat as necessary to allocate multiple programs to the teacher.

3. Use Select Class to allocate drop-down to add teacher to a class (if known/if applicable). This is only required if the teacher will be using English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom.

4. Select Add Teacher to confirm the information and complete the setup.

Note: Once a program has been allocated you can see whether the Terms and Conditions have been Accepted or are Pending, and you have the option to Remove the allocation if you’ve made an error.

Enter the teacher’s email address.

Add class information if applicable.

Select Add Teacher to complete the setup.See allocated programs and their Terms and Conditions status.

Use the drop-down menu to allocate a program.

Add Teachers in Bulk

1. Download the Teacher Upload Template.

2. Fill in the spreadsheet*, including teacher names, email addresses, program allocations and classes (if known/if applicable).

3. Upload the file.

* You cannot alter or delete the column headings (first row) of the spreadsheet. They must remain unchanged in order to successfully upload the spreadsheet.

Important notes about adding teachers:

• If you have a school licence that only includes Sound Waves Online and/or iMaths Online, then you do not need to set up classes.

• If you have a school licence that includes English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom student licences, you will have to attach teachers to classes. However, if you don’t know your teacher’s class name when adding the teacher, you can return at any time to complete this information.

What happens when a teacher is added?

After a teacher has been added to your licence and allocated programs they will be sent an email notifying they have been granted access to these programs. The teacher will be prompted to read and accept the Terms and Conditions before being permitted to use these programs.

What does the status Verified or Unverified mean?

A teacher’s status will display as Verified if they have an existing Firefly account with that email address. A teacher’s status will display as Unverified if they do not have an existing Firefly account with that email address. Instructions for verifying their new account are included in the email sent when added to Class Builder.

How do I see a summary of my teachers’ status and what their access includes?

From the Teachers tab you can:

• use the filter options to search for a teacher

• check the status of your teachers’ accounts (whether they are Verified or Unverified)

• see which programs have been allocated to each teacher

• see which teacher is also a Class Builder Administrator

• remove teachers from the licence (which may be useful if you’ve made an error when adding a teacher, or if a teacher leaves your school).

Add teachers to your licence.

Indicates if a teacher is a Class Builder Administrator.

Use the filter options to find a teacher.

Indicates which programs have been allocated to teachers.

Indicates if teacher’s Firefly Account is Verified or Unverified.

Select and remove teachers from this licence.

Edit a teacher to manage program allocations, adjust class information, or assign Class Builder Administrator access.

How do I edit a teacher’s setup or adjust their program allocations?

From the Teachers tab you can see a snapshot of your teachers’ set up including allocated programs. A tick symbol under each program column indicates that a teacher has been allocated that program. To make any adjustments to an individual teacher you will need to:

1. Find the teacher you want to view or adjust.

2. Select Edit.

This opens the Change Teacher page where you can see more information for this teacher or follow the prompts to make adjustments, including:

• assign Class Builder Administrator access

• adjust program allocations (add or remove a program)

• see whether their program Terms and Conditions are Pending or Accepted

• adjust class information

• remove teacher from the licence.

Note: After making changes to this page you will need to select Save to finalise those changes.

Assign Class Builder Administrator access to the teacher.

See which programs are allocated to this teacher.

Check if the teacher has accepted the Terms and Conditions for their programs, or if they are still pending.

Save any changes made, or Cancel, or Remove this teacher from the licence.

Remove program allocations from this teacher.

Add or remove class information.

Use the drop-down menu to allocate a program.

How do I assign Class Builder Administrator access to other teachers?

From the Teachers tab:

1. Find the teacher you want to give Class Builder Administrator access.

2. Select Edit to open the Change Teacher page.

3. Check the box labelled Allow access to the Class Builder Administration tool for this licence.

4. Select Save.

The teacher will receive email notification that they have been assigned Classed Builder Administrator access for this licence. This allows the teacher to set up and manage teachers, students and classes.

Student SetupReminder:

Students using English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom will need to be set up in Class Builder to receive their unique username and password. Students using only Sound Waves Online and/or iMaths Online do not need to be set up in Class Builder. Instead, these programs use a shared class access code found in the Programs tab.

In the Students tab you will see a summary of the available and used seats for the licence.

Students can be added by selecting Create a Single Student or Create Students in Bulk.

If a student requires access to both English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom products, it’s preferable to set them up in a way that creates a single login to access both products. To create a single login for a student ensure you add both products at the time of creating that student in Class Builder.

Create a Single Student

1. Enter a student’s name.

2. Select the student’s year level.

3. Add the English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom product to the student account. Adding both English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom products at this point will create a single login that will work across both programs.

4. Add the student to an existing class or create a new class.

5. Select Create Student.

Create Students in Bulk

1. Download the Student Upload Template.

2. Fill in the spreadsheet*, including student names, year levels, classes and products.

2.1 When selecting English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom products, make sure to use the drop-down menu to select a product to allocate.

2.2 Adding both English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom products in the one bulk upload will generate a single login for each student that will work across both programs.

3. Upload the file.

* You cannot alter or delete the column headings (first row) of the spreadsheet. They must remain unchanged in order to successfully upload the spreadsheet.

Preserve column headings (row 1).

Select or create classes for each student.

Select a product to allocate to each student.

Add both English Stars and Think Mentals products in the one upload to generate a single login that will work across both programs.

Important notes about adding students:

• To successfully set up a student you must enter Name, Class Name and assign at least one Student Product.

• Unlike teachers, when students are uploaded they are not matched against existing students in the licence. Each upload generates new student logins with access to products specified in the upload. If English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom students are imported in two separate uploads, then every student will appear twice in your licence with a different username and password for each product. To avoid this, conduct a single upload that includes both English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom products for each relevant student.

• If you create or add a class as part of adding students, the Classes tab of Class Builder will automatically be populated with this information.

• When new students are added, unique usernames and passwords will be generated.

• You can use any naming convention you prefer to distinguish your students from each other, but ensure you comply with your school’s privacy policy.

How do I search, edit or delete students?

From the Students tab you can:

• use the filter options to search for a student

• delete students from the licence (which may be useful if you’ve made an error when adding a student, or if a student leaves your school)

• edit a student to adjust their product and class information, or regenerate their password.

How do I regenerate a student’s password?You can regenerate student passwords at any time from the Students tab.

1. Find the student who needs their password regenerated.

2. Select Edit.

3. Check the Regenerate Password box.

4. Select Save.

You can then print an updated student login card with the new password. Refer to the Class Setup section (pg18-19) of this User Guide for instructions on how to print login cards.

Regenerate a student’s password.

Save any changes made, or Cancel, or Delete this student from the licence.

Adjust product and class information. Both a product and class must be added at the same time.

Class Setup

Reminder:

Classes using English Stars and/or Think Mentals Digital Classroom will need to be set up in Class Builder. Classes using only Sound Waves Online and/or iMaths Online do not need to be set up in Class Builder.

Generally, you will have already included class information when adding teachers and students to Class Builder, which automatically creates the class in the Classes tab. However, you can also create a new class as needed via the Classes tab.

The Classes tab provides a snapshot of information about each class, including:

• the class name

• the names of teachers

• the number of students.

Create a new class. Use the filter options to find a class.

View class to add more teachers or students to the class, or print student login cards.

Select and delete classes. You cannot delete a class if there are students attached to the class (first delete or move the students).

See a summary of information for each class, including name, teachers and number of students.

Important notes about classes:

• A class cannot be deleted if there are students still attached to that class.

• In the Teachers column, if the assigned teacher is still unverified, then the status Unverified will display (not the teacher’s name).

• If a class is highlighted red it means that critical issues were detected in that class. You will need to review the class to rectify the issue. Issues include:

• a class without any verified teachers

• a class where teachers do no have access to the same programs/products as the students.

How do I edit classes?To make adjustments to a class, select View. You can then: • edit the class name

• add more teachers to the class or edit a teacher

• add more students to the class or edit a student

• print student login cards.

Important notes about classes:

• To use the Add Teachers to Class function, the teacher you want to attach to the class must have already been added to Class Builder. If you have not yet added the teacher to Class Builder, you will need to do so via the Teachers tab first.

• To use the Add Students to Class function, the student you want to attach to the class must have already been added to Class Builder. If you have not yet added the student to Class Builder, you will need to do so via the Students tab first.

• When you select Edit for a teacher, you are directed to that teacher’s information page.

• When you select Edit for a student, you are directed to that student’s information page.

You can only add teachers or students to a class if they already exist in Class Builder.

Select your students then print their login cards.

Edit the class name.

How do I print student login cards for English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom?Each student has their own unique username and password. To print login cards:

1. Navigate to the Classes tab.

2. Find the class and select View.

3. Select either a single student, multiple students or all students and then choose Print Selected Student Login Cards.

If a student was granted access to both English Stars and Think Mentals Digital Classroom at the time of upload, they will have a single username and password that works across both programs.

Student login cards for a given class can also be printed within English Stars or Think Mentals Digital Classroom from the My Classroom page (by the teacher/s attached to that class).

How do I print student login cards for Sound Waves Online or iMaths Online?

For Sound Waves Online or iMaths Online, students do not have a unique username and password. Instead, a shared class access code is used. To print a sheet of class access codes:

1. Navigate to the Programs tab in Class Builder.

2. Select Print Login Cards next to the relevant Sound Waves Online or iMaths Online year level.

Note: Teachers can also view the class access code on the home page of a given Sound Waves Online or iMaths Online year level.
