The Department for Education has sent schools advice on the Coronavirus. The government is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus and is taking action at home and abroad. The overall risk of Coronavirus to the UK remains moderate. However we understand that people may be concerned where there are children, students or staff returning from or visiting China. Public Health England and the Foreign Office have issued advice for anyone travelling to the area. This can be found at: • https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/china • https://www.gov.uk/government/news/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-and-avian-flu-advice-for-travel-to-china Latest information and advice can also be found at: • https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus Advice for parents/guardians You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus.
There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting
as normal.
We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period.
If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice via the link above.
What action you can take: A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of
Coronavirus. Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing
hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.

We have received an email from a resident of Cambridge Gardens asking us to remind parents not to park on the road
when collecting or dropping off children. This applies to not just normal times of dropping off and collection but
collection from after school clubs as well. Residents have noticed an increase in cars taking up spaces which residents
returning from work are unable to access.
There is no Cross Country club after school on Monday 10th February. Apologies for the short notice. Mr Hogwood
This week’s featured class – Elder
This week in Elder we have been learning about how to use clever colons and sensational semi-
colons. We have been writing different types of sentences, using colons and semi-colons, based
on our Power of Reading book: Journey to the River Sea.
We have also continued learning about exciting rainforests and in particular we have been
learning about the geography of the beautiful South America.
On Wednesday, we filmed our fun, educational e-safety video and the Digital Leaders will be
selecting a winner next week. Fingers crossed it will be us!
We have also had the first part of our class concert! We have been showing off our skills and
sharing our musical learning with each other by performing with our musical instruments.

Reception children – Acorns and Saplings
We would love your child to talk to you over the weekend and find out what jobs you do, what
you do every day and how far you have to travel. Maybe you could show them on a map and how
long it takes you to get there. Please can you put it in their sharing book or even better your
child could draw or have a go at writing it in their sharing book.
When you get the class teddy bear, we would love you to take the bear in to work, as we would
like the bear to travel to as many places as possible!
Please can your child bring in a named toy bear in on Monday 10 February. It will need to
stay in school until the Easter holidays, so it should not be their favourite toy that they need
to sleep with. It cannot be bigger than 50 cm please as it would be tricky to find space
for lots of big bears! It can be any type of toy bear such as a teddy bear, panda bear, brown
bear etc! If you do not have a bear at home, please do not buy one as we do have some
spares, and just tell us.
On Tuesday, Year 6 were visited by Reem who is a refugee from Syria. She came to talk to the children about her experiences while fleeing the war taking place in her homeland. She gave vivid accounts of her life before and during the war including her emotional recount of having to flee her home after coming under sustained bombing. Not only did she share her story, but also that of her sister who travelled across the Mediterranean in terrifying conditions. Reem certainly made the children think carefully about how fortunate we are to live in a peaceful country. Reem was accompanied by Tunbridge Wells Welcome Refugees (TWWR). This is a charity set up in 2016 to help families who have come to the UK and have been placed in different regions. They support the families by finding accomodation, job training and language courses. We are grateful of the time Reem and TWWR offered as this links brilliantly to our humanitarian work we are doing in Year 6 as part of our Explore term.
