I have recently made the decision to make the great move to the Chicago, Illinois area to begin my career in Nursing. Although I love the Kansas City area, a great opportunity has moved my significant other and myself to your neck of the woods. Before nursing, I majored in oboe performance at the University of Central Missouri. Although this was a great experience and I learned a lot, I knew that I didn’t want a career in oboe. I then began to look around at other careers; dental hygiene, teaching, counseling, and couldn’t find something that incorporated all of my skills and desires. I began to research jobs and schools and came across nursing. Nursing was always something that I was interested in, but I didn’t think I could do it. After much thought, I realized that nursing incorporated all of the things I loved- teaching, counseling, science, math, and caretaking. I applied to UMKC and the rest is history. I haven’t second-guessed my decision once and have truly loved nursing. At the University of Missouri-Kansas City, I completed 1200 clinical hours at various hospitals around Kansas City, including The University of Kansas Hospital, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Truman Medical Center, and many more. I was able to work with children, oncology patients, behavioral health, students, critical care patients, and laboring patients. In our final year of nursing school, we had the great opportunity to take a stand-alone critical care class where I spent 120 hours in the Intensive Care Unit at Research Medical Center. Also during our final year, I spent 300 hours in the Perioperative unit at the University of Kansas Hospital where I acted as an RN under supervision of my preceptor. I was able to spend time in the Preoperational area, the Operating Room, and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit for my Capstone experience. My goal as a new graduate RN is to get acclimated to a challenging floor, continue to gain knowledge about the body systems, work with great coworkers, and to give exceptional care to exceptional patients. I know it will be challenging and stressful at times, but I’m ready begin building my career and I think that I will make a great nurse on your floor.

Dear Hiring Committee,

I recently graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a Bachelor in Science of Nursing, which is located in downtown Kansas City.

I work hard, study hard, and work well with others. I enjoy laughing with people, but I know when to be serious and get the job done.

I know you have many applicants and the hiring process can be strenuous, but please consider me when you are making your decisions because I know I will be a great nurse.

Thank you for your time!
