May Updates

Hello Hill Country! Congratula-tions to everyone on finishing another school year. Summertime is here now, and while everyone may be busy going on vacation or working at a summer job, remember that CKI continues through the summer! This means that chapter Secretaries and Presidents will still be reporting through the summer on what their club has been up to. I encourage everyone to stay ac-tive during the summer and find volun-teer opportunities in your surrounding area to help out at. I believe that leading

by example tends to work best, so I myself have been volunteering at a local church nursery, helping out my old high school Key Club with their summer events, and attending Kiwa-nis Lunch-In meetings. You don’t have to look far for service opportunities! Many business-es, while not hiring for the summer, may be looking for temporary volun-teers. However many events you have scheduled on your summer “To-Do” list, the most important thing to re-member is to have fun and relax...it is summertime after all!

Angelo State’s summer began on May 6th, so many of the mem-bers have gone their separate ways. The members that stayed in San Angelo were able to participate in one service event as a group. Five volunteers were present at the Little Olympics event on May 6 for a total of 15 hours. Also, several individual members have been participating in service opportunities and Kiwanis/Key Club events in their home towns.

Chapter Updates!

Southwestern’s Treasurer, Bronwyn Tyler and President Nora Maus, attended the Kiwanis Division 24 prayer breakfast with Aus-tin area Kiwanis clubs. Nora also volunteered at the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon with UT CKI and Austin area Kiwanis clubs.

May has almost come to a close, and UT CKI has done a wonderful job of keeping up with serving their community! Between Finals, Moving Out, and all the stresses that come with ending a semester, their chapter has served a total of 106.6 hours. Their biggest service project for May was the 12th Annual KVET Radiothon Bene-fiting the Dell Children's Medical Center. At this event, which was held May 19th and 20th, they answered phones and ac-cepted monetary donations, sold T-Shirts, manned the Lobby area, and sold Raffle Tickets. Over the course of the two days, they saw the Donation total rise from $0 to $312,000! Whether it was a $10, or $10000, any amount was deeply appre-ciated. “The most rewarding phone calls came from the people who "Just wanted to Donate." They weren't calling in because they knew a child who was hospitalized at Dell, they "Just wanted to Donate." It real-ly made you stop and think about how many good, caring people are out there.”-Cortney Ferris. At this event, UT CKI had the honor of make a donation themselves. Cook-Off, and donated $500! With the $500, their chapter became part of the "Teddy Bear Express." Becoming part of The Teddy Bear Express allowed a teddy bear to be given to a cur-rent patient at Dell Children's Medical Center. At the Radiothon, they also had the pleasure of serving along-side some of their local Kiwanis Clubs, as well as a Key Club. Other events in May included a Spring Fling, in which they helped a neighborhood Church Daycare with games and fun! A few weeks ago, some of the members that stayed in Austin for the Summer went to the Capital Area Food Bank to help sort and pack canned food items. May was a busy time of the year, but they served through all the chaos, and are looking for-ward to the Summer months!

Divisional Updates

Monthly Chapter updates are meant for either the Chapter’s President or Secretary. These monthly updates allow me [the HC LTG] to see how each chapter is progressing. This update is done in a survey form, so it also allows the Chapter President or Secretary to communicate any questions or concerns. The update format was a paragraph that was to be emailed to me, but I have created a new format using Survey Monkey. However, there is not an area where you are allowed to upload or attach pictures, so I encour-age clubs to email me any pho-tos of chapter events! Chapter Presidents and Secretaries, please be on the lookout for this survey link on our Facebook Group Page, and your emails! *These surveys will be sent out two weeks before the end of each month, and will be due by the last Friday of the month.*

The District Goals were finalized! If you were at W.O.W. you were able to gather that information. For those of you

who weren't there, and haven't seen them, here is that infor-mation.

Keep in mind, these are goals that have been submitted to International, and will be the standard for when we apply for Distinguished District next year.
