RENAISANCE PROJECT

• M8.3. Intelligent traffic management and control at 28 intersections in the city centre

• Forming of traffic management and control centre

• Adaptive traffic control in real – time

• Supply equipment (hardware and software) for adaptive traffic control

Renaissance activities

• Design project for intelligent traffic management and control in the city of Skopje

• Supplied central and peripheral software for adaptive traffic control “UTOPIA” of Mizar, Italy.

• Supplied and installed 30 new traffic light controllers at intersections in the city centre

• Supplied detector cable for inductive loops for vehicle detection and classification

• Supplied of 30 devices (road side units) for traffic light controllers

• Design project for fiber optic connecting of traffic lights controllers at intersections in the city centre

• Installed polyethylene pipes for fiber optic cable for connecting of the intersections in the city centre

• Supplied detector cards for traffic lights controllers installed in the city centre

Expansion

• The City of Skopje made decision to upgrade the Renaissance project

• EBRD project: Automated traffic management (ATM) has been start

• Start of installation: June 2012

• Deadline for installation: March 2012

Scope of ATM project

• Equipment of traffic management and control centre

• Adaptive control at app.128 intersections

• Car park guidance

• Drivers information by VMS (variable message signs)

• Traffic monitoring at 50 intersections (CCTV system)

• Equipment of additional 70 intersections with new traffic controllers and RSU devices

• Installing of fiber optic cable and switches for connecting of traffic light controllers

Main functions of TMCC

• Collecting traffic data in real time

• Managing the traffic lights system

• Monitoring of traffic

• Giving priority to public transport vehicles as well as ambulance, fire and police

• Giving instructions to free parking spaces

• Sending information through the traffic signs with variable content

Expected results

• 15% decrease in travel times for private traffic

• 50% reduction in queuing time

• 10% decrease in emissions and fuel consumption

• 20% increase of commercial speed for public transport

• Increase of level of services at the intersections
