I would like to extend a thanks to Bryan Veith (Brown and Caldwell) for speaking at our January luncheon and to all of you for attending and continually showing your support of our local Branch. PDH certificates for those who attended the meeting will be emailed to you by the end of the week. If you would like to present at an upcoming luncheon, please contact Shanon Spence or any of your ASCE board members. I would like to commend Douglas Sines who has done a fantastic job updating our local branch website. If you have some time, please visit the website to view the great work he has done (ascesuncoast.weebly.com). With the wonderful support from our ASCE members and friends, earlier this month we were able to receive Engineers Week proclamations from the following municipalities: Sarasota County, Manatee County, the City of Bradenton, the City of Sarasota, the Town of Longboat Key, the City of Venice, the City of Palmetto, and the City of North Port. On February 21st, 2019 we will be hosting our monthly luncheon at the Manatee County Public Works building. See Page 2 for additional information. After long discussion of the submitted nominations, I am proud to announce the 2019 ASCE SunCoast Branch award winners for this year: Young Engineer of the Year – Geza F. Bankuty, PE (J.R. Evans Engineering) Engineer of the Year – Greg Stevens, PE (Ardaman & Associates) Government Engineer of the Year – Carolyn Eastwood, PE (Sarasota County) Project of the Year – Laurel Road Legacy Trail Bridge (FDOT District 1) All award winners will be recognized during the 2nd Annual E-Week Awards Banquet on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Mote Marine. The following morning, on February 23 rd , you all will have the opportunity to see local students complete in our 30 th Annual Toothpick Bridge competition. GUEST SPEAKER: KELDA SENIOR

Kelda Senior is the business development manager for the Florida Turnpike’s SunTrax project. In this role, Kelda establishes and manages business relationships with future SunTrax users and partners, while overseeing the facility’s outreach and public relation initiatives. For the past 10 years, Kelda has served as a public relations and community outreach specialist in local, state and federal government, with an emphasis on the transportation sector since 2012. Kelda holds a B.A. in journalism and a master of public administration – both from the University of Central Florida. Centrally located between Tampa and Orlando in Polk County, Florida, SunTrax is a large-scale, state-of-the-art facility being developed by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) dedicated to the research, development and testing of emerging transportation technologies in safe and controlled environments – including electric, shared-use, connected and autonomous mobility technology.

EDUCATION CORNER The education corner seeks to provide valuable information to our members related to continuing education, opportunities for PDH credits and information related to upcoming PE exams.

ENGINEER LICENSURE RENEWAL:

The license renewal deadline for the 2019-2021 biennium period is less than two (2) weeks away (February 28. 2019). All current/active Florida Professional Engineer licenses and Certificates of Authorization will expire on Feb. 28, 2019. All delinquent Florida Professional Engineer licenses and Certificates of Authorization will go null and void on Feb. 28, 2019. If you have not already done so, please take some time today renew your license.

JOB OPENINGS

Progressive Water Resources, LLC (PWR) is a leading-edge Professional Engineering and Geology water resource consulting firm based in Sarasota, Florida and has immediate full-time employment opportunities for a Civil Engineer Intern and an experienced Civil CAD Designer with experience in civil engineering analysis and design. All job candidates should be competent in using MS Office (Word, Excel and Adobe) and have good communication skills. PWR is seeking professionals for the following positions. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Civil Engineer Intern:

Civil Engineer Intern candidates shall have at least a Bachelor of Science Degree or similar Engineering field and completed their Engineer Intern certification. Preferred candidates will have experience in one or more of the following: 1) preparation of construction plans and specifications; 2) regulatory submittals and processing; 3) technical writing; and 4) experience within Florida. Proficiency in one or more of the following software is highly desirable: ICPR; ArcGIS, AutoCAD, WaterCAD and/or SewerCAD.

CAD Professional:

CAD Professional candidates shall have an associate’s degree from an accredited college/university or completed technical trade-school courses, or equivalent experience. The successful candidate will provide drafting and plan-reproduction services for engineers during the planning, design, and construction plan phases for a variety of engineering projects. Mid-level candidates shall have at least 3-years of experience, while Senior-level candidates shall have at least 5-years of experience using AutoCAD and/or Civil3D, in the field of civil engineering. Strong technical knowledge of ArcGIS is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree or similar Engineering field;

• Engineer Intern (E.I.) Certification;

• Strong technical writing skills;

• CAD experience, knowledge, and ability to learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in preparing construction plans and specifications;

• Regulatory submittals to SWFWMD, FDOT, FDEP, and FDOH;

• Proficiency with Stormwater Modeling Software (ICPR) or ability to learn;

• Proficiency with utility pipe modeling software (WaterCAD or SewerCAD) or ability to learn;

• Proficiency with ArcGIS software or ability to learn.

Successful candidate(s) will be classified and compensated based on education, experience and related qualifications. PWR offers an excellent salary and benefits package including health and dental insurance, holidays, paid leave, 401(k) Plan, continuing education, and professional societies.
