RIPARIAN PLANTING INITIATIVE

May 2007

GRAHAM CREEKMay 17th, 2007

Planting Site – Graham CreekAndrew Haydon Park

•Severe erosion along bank due to high flows and lack of riparian vegetation.

•Erosion of bank results in increased turbidity, sedimentation and is an eye sore for park users.

Planting Phase – May 17th, 07Planting of 100 small shrubs along bank to help

stabilize bank, reduce sedimentation and promote regeneration of vegetation

Species Planted include: Red Osier, White Spruce, Highbush Cranberry

Post Planting – July 2007•Plants were checked in July to access success

•Plants growing well and very little die off observed

MOSQUITO CREEKMay 17th, 2007

Planting Site – Mosquito Creek@ Spratt Road (Riverside South)

•Severe erosion along bank due to high flows and lack of riparian vegetation.

•Erosion of bank results in increased turbidity and sedimentation which destroys fish habitat

Planting Phase – May 17th, 07Planting of 300 small shrubs along bank to help

stabilize bank, reduce sedimentation and promote regeneration of vegetation

Species Planted include: Red Osier, Bur Oak, White Spruce, Highbush Cranberry

Post Planting – July 2007•Plants were checked in July to access success

•Plants growing well and very little die off observed
