MAYOR’S CORNER
Weston City Ordinance 51.02 Billing Policy
(A) All water bills are due and payable ten days after the date of billing.
(B) A late fee designated by the city fee schedule will be added to delinquent accounts made after the 20th of the current month and each month that account is delinquent.
(C) Account holders delinquent more than 60 days will be handed a shut off notice, or if no one is at the account ad-dress, the notice will be attached to the residence door. If the account remains delinquent for three more days, water service will be shut off.
The City has a continuing problem with approximately 15% of our wa-
ter users. Fifty to fifty-five accounts end up on the water shut off list
each month. This adds a lot of wated labor hours for the city hall and
public works personnel as the following procedure is followed:
1. Tracking who is overdue.
2. Creating the shut-off list.
3. Generating shut-off notices.
4. Posting the shut-off notices on each property each month.
5. Sometimes only 1 or 2 households actually get shut off.
Utility bills (water & sewer) must be paid monthly. By not paying your
utility bill on time each month you actually add to the cost of operating
these systems. The city does not inflate our costs. The money received
goes to pay actual operating expenses. In fact the sewer portion does
not cover actual operating costs and that will have to be remedied
sooner or later.
We understand that emergencies arise and if this is the case just contact
City Hall and arrangements can be made.
LITTERING – Have you noticed the litter on the
road sides on any county road? Why would a per-
son open their window and throw out bottles, cans
and trash? Anyone who drives or walks the county
roads sees the results of this every day. This litter
would become a mountain if some of us did not
take the time and effort to pick up the mess. Be
part of the solution and not the problem. Please
think and don’t litter.
