30th Annual Paper Boat Race

Each year, staff representatives from each Recreation Summer Camp (Tenderfoot, Little Walnut,

Walnut Creek Day Camp, Walnut Creek Sports Camp, Camp Community Arts, Specialized Recreation

Camp, Afternoon Camp Clever Creek and the pool lifeguards) compete in a cardboard boat race

across the lap pool. Themed boats are made of masking tape, cardboard, and white glue. Each

boat is large enough to carry a camp leader across the pool and back. Awards are given both to the

race winner and to the camp with the most creative theme. Campers from afternoon camps attend

the race during camp hours. Morning-only campers are encouraged to attend the event with their

parents or guardians to participate in the boat parade and support their counselors in the cheering

section.

Walnuts. If your child has not yet started preschool,

Tenderfoot is a great start. Children who have had more

school or play group experiences will find Little Walnut

LITTLe TeNNIs summer CAmps (6:1 rATIO)

(Ages 4-6) Specially designed tennis nets, rackets and low

bouncing balls are used to provide an enjoyable learning

experience for younger players. Several short breaks are taken

so that students can regain energy (bring a snack) and cool down

(bring water). Little Tennis students will learn to

recognize, demonstrate and successfully hit the forehand,

backhand and serve. They will learn parts of the racket, court, and

improve coordination and motor skills (i.e. balancing, overhand

throwing, catching, and shuffling). Little Rallyers will work to

improve their full court abilities through a series of drills and

games. Players should bring a snack and water.

ImprOvemeNT, JuNIOr TeAm CAmps (8:1 rATIO)

(Ages 7-15) Students are grouped by ability levels on first day of

class. Introductory students will learn forehand, backhand,

volley, overhead and serve through our unique “court rotation

and activity system.” Intermediate and Junior Team students

will develop specialty shots and play in Singles & Doubles Round

Robin Matches. The instructor(s) will help players with scoring,

rules and match strategy. Players should bring a snack and water.

TeNNIs & swIm COmbO CAmps (8:1 TeNNIs / 6:1 swIm)

(Ages 8-15) Students will enjoy a morning of tennis camp then

head across to the aquatic center where they will enjoy an

afternoon of recreational swimming. Students should bring a

swim suit, towel, and lunch on Monday-Thursday. Pizza will be

provided on Fridays.
