City of Concordia Newsletter The City of Concordia is in the process of changing all of the water meters in town. There are three reasons for this work to be done. One, many of our meters are old; generally a meter slows down as it gets older. As a meter slows down it does not read accurately and some water that travels through it does not get recorded. Two, we hope to save time; the new meters have a radio read system built in. They send a signal that we are equipped to pick up as we drive by. This will allow the meter reader to read all of the meters in town in one day. Before any of the meters were changed one employee would walk and record a fourth of the town every week. Three, the new meters have a memory. Six months of information is retained in the meter for future viewing. By capturing this information we can print out a report which will allow the home owner to see when the water has been used. This tech- nology will be extremely useful in deter- mining where leaks are, or when water is used unexpectedly such as in a water sof- tener at night. Jeremy Arnold has taken the lead on our meter replacement project. Gary Strait our crew foreman, along with Jeff Roberts, Andrew Allen, and Clint Fraser have also spent countless hours changing meters and making repairs to meter pits to get ready for the switch to the new system. Recently, the crew has passed the halfway point in our project. The City has 2,542 meters in town. The ability and willingness of our water crew to take on such a large project will save the City thousands of dol- lars. Please take a minute to thank our hard working employees for their dedicated ser- vice when you see one. 1. Which of the following is not effected by wind chill? A. Person B. Dog C. Car Radiator D.
