Conference Theme & Call For Papers

The Newman Centre of McGill University, in collaboration with local universities, will host a symposium on the evolution of the City

of Montreal from Catholic mission to multicultural metropolis. The event will take place from the 13th to the 15th of September 2017.

Its purpose is to mark Montreal’s 375th anniversary by exploring the role of religious figures and institutions, both locally and inter-

younger generations. The conference also aims to consider the role of religion in Montreal’s transformation from mission to me-

tropolis in the context of contemporary debates on globalization and the secularization of western societies. Scholarly contributions

from all disciplines, perspectives and methodologies are sought in the areas of culture, health care, education, religion, law, politics,
