1. How do I apply?

All of our Summer 2008 employment opportunities are available to view on-line at

www.mycitycareer.ca/ Seasonal Opportunities. When you have selected an employment opportunity or group of positions that you are interested in, apply online by using the "Apply" button at the top or bottom of the job posting.

If you worked for other City of Mississauga sections last summer then you have already

registered with our site; if you are a new applicant then you need to register on our career site (view job and click on the apply button a “Registration Form” will appear) once registered, download or create a resume/cover letter, then proceed to complete the questionnaires attached. All postings have a series of questions attached to obtain additional information about the applicant.

Opportunities?

To qualify for positions with the Community Centres, City of Mississauga you must:

• Be 16 years of age or older as of the date of your employment, unless otherwise

specified. • Meet the required qualifications that must be kept current throughout the employment

term. • Be able to validate the above criteria by providing original documentation, as requested,

during an interview.

8. The competitions have closed. Can I still apply?

All summer jobs will be posted on our web site until January 15, 2008. Should we require

any further applications after January 15, 2008, we will be referring to our Future Opportunities. (Job Link – Recreation).

9. How do I make a change to my application?

If you need to update your resume, simply go to our career site at www.mycitycareer.ca

under Job Seekers, locate My Resumes, click the link and log in, then locate the resume you want to update.

Only resumes and cover letters can be updated. Questionnaires can only be answered once; therefore no changes can be made to questionnaires.

Supervisor, Camps

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will be a minimum 19 years of age and hold a Secondary School Graduation Diploma, a valid, violation free Class G Driver’s Licence with 3 years driving

experience, a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR B Certificate and experience in a recreational camp setting. Access to a vehicle on a daily basis required for some locations. Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Record Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor or Designate, the successful candidate will assist in the operation and delivery of a comprehensive camp experience as developed by Recreation and Parks to meet the needs of staff and all participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating their leisure activities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To support the objectives and philosophies of the various camp programs as established

by Recreation and Parks through quality instruction and excellent customer and staff relations.

2. To supervise, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive camp program as developed by Recreation and Parks to meet the needs of all participants in the programs.

3. To assist with pre-selection interviews, hiring and placement of staff as required.

4. To assist with the development and distribution of promotional materials as deemed

necessary.

5. To ensure pre-season set-up and end of season close down is completed. 6. Coordinate supply and equipment ordering and maintain inventory control systems.

7. To complete purchases as required and maintain accurate accounting of all petty cash

and ensure Cash Handling Procedures are adhered to.

8. To assist with the development, facilitation and participation in a comprehensive training week and staff meetings for summer staff as required throughout the summer.

9. To initiate and assist staff in the planning and evaluation of a dynamic camp program. Responsible for providing on-going support, direction and assistance to paid and volunteer leaders

10. To make regular program site visits, ensuring site procedures and safety standards are adhered to. To immediately and effectively respond to off-site program and staff requests. Participate when feasible in special activities.

11. To be responsible for the safety and well being of all registered participants and

maintain attendance records for each site. 12. To ensure effective customer service through provision of knowledgeable information to

customer inquiries and concerns. To be available as a knowledgeable resource to

participants, volunteers and staff. 13. To communicate regularly with Program Supervisor or Designate through detailed time

sheets outlining whereabouts and destinations; ensure timely communication between

Off-site Staff and Supervisor. Attend weekly update meetings with Supervisor as required.

14. To communicate regularly with Facility Staff and/or Board of Education Staff regarding the use of the facility and report any concerns/damage to Supervisor immediately.

15. To prepare and administer mid summer and final evaluation for direct reports. Assist

and support in the preparation and administration of evaluations of other staff positions as deem appropriate.

16. To maintain flexible work schedule during summer program to ensure supervision and continuity of program.

17. To submit a final report and recommendations at the conclusion of the programs.

18. All staff must report all accidents/incidents to their immediate Supervisor within 24

hours. Appropriate forms are to be completed and submitted.

19. To read, understand and abide by all of the City’s and Divisional Standards, Corporate Policies and Procedures, including Human Resources policies respecting Employee Conduct, Health and Safety and Freedom of Information.

20. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REMUNERATION:

The duties and responsibilities of a Supervisor, Camps are reflected in the hourly rate of pay outlined on the part - time rate schedule.

Staff will be paid on an hourly basis for attending required training or meetings at a Training / Meeting rate of pay.

Staff will receive vacation pay of 4% of total wages upon termination of employment or on the last pay of the year. Advancement to job rate is dependant on completion of one summer of continuous

employment and a successful performance review.

Hourly Rate: $15.39 – $17.02

Site Leader, Camps

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have or be working towards a Secondary School Graduation Diploma and must posses a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR B certificate. One year experience working with children in a recreational setting is preferred and previous experience supervising staff an asset. Employment offer is conditional upon

receipt of a Criminal Record Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Leader, Camps

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Dance Camp Leader JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate must be trained in jazz, ballet, modern dance and be able to choreograph dance routines plus minimum one year working with children. Candidates with additional dance related experience in Cheer Leading, Line Dancing and Ballroom Dance would be an asset. The successful candidate must posses a valid Emergency First Aid and

CPR B certification. Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Record Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the successful candidate will operate a comprehensive Youth Drop-in Program as developed by the Recreation and Parks Division to meet the needs of all participants. They will ensure adequate safety while facilitating leisure activities, at the same time, coaching and leading teen leaders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To support the objectives and philosophies of the Youth Drop-in Programs as established by the Recreation and Parks Division through quality leadership and excellent customer service.

2. To lead, implement and supervise a comprehensive Youth Drop-in program as developed by Recreation and Parks to meet the needs of all participants in the programs

3. To be available as a knowledgeable resource and provide quality customer service to

participants, parents and staff and volunteers.

4. To attend and participate in all trainings and staff meetings as scheduled. 5. To be responsible for the safety and well being of all participants and

maintain attendance records for the program. Maintain additional administrative

records as required. 6. To assist and encourage youth in the planning, initiating, coordinating, and promoting

of recreational activities and special events. Develop programs and Supervise, coach and evaluate Leaders and volunteers.

7. Supervise the youth and planned activities in designated facility areas, manage behaviour and report any relevant participant/ staffing issues to Program Supervisor.

8. To ensure the implementation of departmental safety standards at site location,

including cleanliness of program location.

9. Assist and encourage youth in the planning, initiating, coordinating, and promoting of

recreational activities and special events. Develop programs and activities to engage youth.

10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

REMUNERATION: The duties and responsibilities of a Leader, Drop In are reflected in the hourly rate of pay as

outlined on the part - time rate schedule. Staff will be paid on an hourly basis for attending required training or meetings at a Training / Meeting rate of pay.

Staff will receive vacation pay of 4% of total wages upon termination of employment or on the last pay of the year.

Advancement to job rate is dependant on completion of three months of continuous employment and a successful performance review.

Hourly Rate: $10.17 - $11.20

Leader, Drop In JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and outgoing individual who is a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision. Previous experience working with youth 10 to 17

years in a leadership capacity an asset. The successful candidate must hold a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR B Certificate. Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Criminal Record Search, Vulnerable Sector Screening that is acceptable to the City of
