From toddler art to senior movie screenings, from belly dancing to workshops on using social media, from youth sports to resident birthday parties and from the annual Senior Health Fair to Woofstock, Roxbury hosts the programs that bring the Beverly Hills community together. The new Roxbury Park Community Center—approved by a unanimous vote of the Beverly Hills City Council, which has worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality—is beginning to take shape. Based on input from park users, neighbors and visitors, the new Community Center has many innovative features and modern improvements. The new facility is envisioned as a light-filled space with lots of glass so that the park, in essence, can come inside. It will have an entire suite dedicated to the needs of seniors, a larger multipurpose room to provide for community gatherings, teen dances and cultural programs, and a larger library annex.

Both interior and exterior spaces will be improved, including the creation of an indoor-outdoor courtyard where patrons can enjoy park views. New playground equipment will be installed, the park restroom will be rebuilt and athletic field drainage issues will be addressed. With new technologies and sustainability measures such as solar panels on the roof, we are ensuring a Community Center that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Did you know? Roxbury Park serves about 4,560 meals annually to seniors in need, provides 20 young children with an outstanding preschool experience, hosts eight specialty youth camps each spring, winter and summer break, is home to both the popular Beverly Hills teen and senior dances and offers over 70 enrichment classes every year to all ages.

Residents should be the first to know about progress on the new Roxbury Park Community Center. Please enjoy the preliminary renderings in this brochure. This winter, large renderings and floorplans will be avail-able to view in various public spaces. There will also be frequent updates on the Rec and Parks Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BHrecandparks) and you can always check out the dedicated Roxbury project page on the City’s website at www.beverlyhills.org/roxburyproject.

Your input and participation has led to a plan of which can we all be proud. Thanks again for your support and feedback.

A new Roxbury Park Community Center begins to take shape

Winter is always special in Beverly Hills. Beyond the lights, decorations and the warmth you encounter on our streets, the Community Services Department offers you a wide-array of ways to keep active and engaged during winter’s short days and long nights. On behalf of the Community Services Department and its staff, I hope you’ll take some time to review everything your community has to offer this season.I’m especially excited about the public ice skating rink that will be delighting all ages from November 18 – January 6 in Beverly Gardens Park along Santa Monica Boulevard. The Conference & Visitor’s Bureau and the City have partnered to bring residents and visitors a nostalgic winter experience. Check out www.beverly hills.org for all the details and watch for special wintertime offers from our business community especially for rink patrons. If you haven’t yet been to our beautifully renovated Beverly Hills Public Library, what better time of year to curl up with a book? I encourage you to check out the stunning new Children’s Library as well as take advantage of the refreshed lobby and common areas. New automated self check-out procedures are also available. As always, the Library is a fountainhead of resources, and among the materials you can find there are entry forms for the Human Rela-tions Commission’s inaugural bullying prevention video contest—the deadline is in February, why not produce an entry? Our Department is proud of the improvements at Greystone Estate—including a state-of-the-art catering kitchen—and is pleased to be able to open Greystone’s doors and charm to a bigger variety of private events. If you’d like to book your next corporate function, anniversary soiree or wrap party at the Mansion, please contact our friendly staff at 310.285.6830. Greystone is now successfully hosting an exciting series of food crafting classes, our annual winter tea and private ranger tours as well as year-round offerings that include Theatre 40, Shakespeare productions and, of course, our annual Concours d’Elegance. The new demonstration garden at Greystone produced a large bounty of vegetables this autumn—which was donated to local meal pro-grams—and will continue to produce all winter. If you’d like to help out, please email [email protected] have a full slate of one-day seminars, fitness classes, arts and technology offerings and children’s programming. These pages are filled with great activities for all ages, including information on a perennial favorite, Woofstock 90210 (coming March 10). Our staff encourages you to look through this brochure, find a way to connect and enjoy the beautiful Beverly Hills winter. With all good thoughts for health, happy holidays and a great start to the New Year,
