the event is included in your notebooks While we are still working out the logistics of

parking and possible street closures we wanted to go ahead and get the Commissions

approval ofthe proposed directional signs leading to the event

Recommendation

Section402Dofthe Sign Ordinance provides the following standards and requirementsfor special event signs Its pretty much at the discretion of the commission based on the

needs ofa specific event

1 Purpose To promote special events that due to the location of the event and the

volume of traffic anticipated by the event necessitate special identification and

directional signage

2 Maximum Size Subject to ZAPCO approval

3 Maximum Height Subject to ZAPCO approval

4 Number Subject to ZAPCO approval

5 Location Subject to ZAPCO approval

6 Design Subject to ZAPCO approval

7 Lighting Subject to ZAPCO approval

8 Duration Subject to ZAPCO approval

9 Landscape Subject to ZAPCO approval

10 Additional Permit requires ZAPCO approval

The proposed signs will be 2 feet high by 3 feet wide and will primarily just point visitorsin the right direction One ofthe signs will also identify the parking area The signs willbe installed the morning of the 24h and removed that evening A map is included in yournotebooks showing the proposed locations

While the drawings are pretty crude and obviously rushed I think the proposed signpackage is reasonable and necessary to accommodate the traffic going to the event Stafftherefore recommends approval

Dear Mr BurkePer our phone conversation last week I would like to submit this written request the City of

Lakeway approve the closing of Highlands Blvd from GamNoon on July 24th 2010 We have

already filed a permit request through Lakeway Building and Development Services The event

will feature a 10k race at Sam a 2 mile run at gam and a61218mile family bike ride at

starting at 10am In addition Rough Hollow Yahct Club will host a

health and fitness expo sarting at gam2pm At fpm we will have a

professinoanl tennis match held at Lakeway World of Tennis Prior to the tennis match at

WOT tennis fans will have a chance to participate in free tennis clinics from 10noon hosted

by Lakeway USTA and Wilson Sporting Goods The entire event is titled the Dell Fox Fit

Weekend benefiting Maggies Hope Our goal is to provide a family friendly event the focuses

on health and fitness We all feel Lakeway is the perfect setting for such an event You can

visit wwwmyfoxaustincom for additional information regarding the event

The projected flow of the event would be as follows

1 Parking and traffic The event would be staged from the Rough Hollow welcome center back

to the areas and lots near World of Tennis Serene Hills School the Lakeway Swim Center We

would direct traffic and fill up the parking areas near the welcome center first since the

starting line for the running and bike raceride will be located near the welcome center

The finish line for the raceride will be near the Rough Hollow Yacht Club We will provideshuttle service from the yacht club to the welcome center to transport runners riders fans

2 Police Services In the past we have hired 3 officers to cover traffic and security at

our tennis events at Lakeway World of Tennis If the City allows us to close Highland Blvd I

would assume that 34 officers could manage the traffic and security needs for this event

In order to the move this process along I am going to cc the owners of RunTex and ack and

Adams Bikes for their input since they are the professionals in race bike types of event

Also I am cc Dennis McWilliams Dir of Sports Opertaions for The Hills CCWOT and HaythemDawlett the developer of Rough Hollow Dennis can provide input on any issues regarding the

WOT and the flow of our prior event at WOT and Haythem can confirm the support of the

development and builders that would be impacted by closing Highlands Blvd

3 Event Signage We would like to place advance event signage in Lakeway and directional

signage to event and parking areas the day of the event Could you please provide city

guidlines on such signage

MaggiesHope is designed to help kids like Maggie and their families withfunding foroutoftheboxtreatments gluten freecasein free foods schooladvocates and other therapies not covered by insurance There are manyorganizations doing research to help find a cure which we are so very thankfulfor but these parents also need help now

Seeing the emotional and financial impact first hand I can no longer sit backand watch this disorder rip families apart as it nears an epidemic I feel itstime I step up and use the public platform Im so blessed to have and make a
