Therapy Cisapride helps kids keep food down
Reflux is common in infants, and so cisapride was assessed openly or compared with placebo for symptomatic outcome in 137 infants aged < 12 months with chronic postprandial regurgitation or vomiting . Cisapride 0.1 and 0.2 mg/kg tid gave dose-dependent reductions in the frequency and severity of regurgitation for up to 4 weeks . Relapse seemed to be more frequent in infants who were treated for less than 4 weeks; diarrhoea and abdominal cramps occurred in 9 cisapride recipients . With doses of 0.2 mg/kg, only about 20% of infants had moderate or severe symptoms after 4 weeks .
