CIS 1150 – ASSIGNMENT PACKET

Attached are instructions for completing the assignments required for the course.

You should use a word processor to generate a cover sheet. You may design your own cover sheet, but the sample below contains the data you must include:

Your Name

Assignment Number

Title and Page Number of the Lab or Case Study

CIS 1150 – Class Meeting Time

Due Date

Buy a stapler and save an automatic two-point deduction for each assignment not stapled together! You will also receive a two-point deduction for each assignment submitted without a cover sheet.

As stated in the syllabus: Assignments are due at the start of the class period. Points will be deducted from the assignment for each class period it is late. Do not miss class the day an assignment is due in order to complete it. You will receive the point deduction if you turn it in after the assignments have been collected at the start of class or if you turn it in the next class period. Plan to submit your assignment before the due date to avoid any point deductions. You may not work with a partner when completing the individual assignments. A final grade of F for the course will result for students who collaborate on assignments.

ASSIGNMENT #9

Point value: 25 This assignment consists of two parts.

Purpose: To understand the objects in a database management system through the creation and use of tables, forms, and reports using Microsoft Access 2007.

Textbook: Microsoft Office 2007 Essential Concepts and Techniques

Preparation: Read Access Chapter 1: Creating and Using a Database, AC 1- 64.Read AC 3-AC 6 slowly and carefully at least twice. You must let me know if

you do not understand the concepts on these pages. Otherwise, you will have difficulty completing the assignments.

Part 1 (5 pts.)Do: Complete Lab 1: Creating the JMS TechWizards Database on AC 67 -68.

Submit print-outs of the two tables: the Client table and the Technician table. Use landscape mode and adjust the margins so your print-outs each appear on one page.

Page 12: CIS 1150 – ASSIGNMENT PACKET - College of DuPage€¦  · Web viewTitle and Page Number of the Lab or Case Study. CIS 1150 ... The Word document or Excel spreadsheet you ... Caring

Part 2 (20 pts.)Do: Locate Cases and Places AC 71.

Complete one of the following: Case 1 OR Case 2. The Word document or Excel spreadsheet you need to complete the cases are located on Drive H: in the Morovati folder under CISinstructors.

Preparation: READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU BEGIN:For whichever of the above cases you chose, you should create two tables that contain one common field. See example in Figure 1-1 on AC 3. Study this figure carefully to understand how each table has its own primary key field. In the Client table, the primary key field is the Client Number. In the Recruiter table, the primary key field is the Recruiter Number. You should know that each table must have its own primary key field.

Understand that the primary key field, Recruiter Number, in the Recruiter table is repeated several times in the Client table. That’s because each Recruiter can work with more than one client. The Recruiter Number is repeated in the Client table because it is not the primary key field in the Client table.

When you design your tables, you should follow this same structure: one primary key per table. The primary key in one of the tables should repeat itself in the other table as in Figure 1-1 on AC 3. Otherwise, you will lose a minimum of five points.HINT: If you did not read AC 3- AC 6 carefully as instructed at the start of this assignment, READ THESE PAGES NOW! “Never ever never” (not great grammar but it makes the point) use a person’s last name or first name as a primary key field!

Deliverables for Case #1 or Case #2: Failure to submit your work stapled and organized with a cover sheet will result in point deductions. Attach your work in the order listed:1. A print-out of the two tables in landscape mode. Make sure you have chosen

meaningful table names.2. A print-out of ONE RECORD from a sample form that includes all of the fields from

one of the tables. 3. A sample report from one of the tables. Do not use all the fields in the table. On

the report print-out, explain the purpose of your report and why you did not need to use all the fields.

4. A cover sheet citing which cases you completed.
