Circus CircusSummer Terms 5 and 6 Science Simple forces including magnetism Forces : Compare how things move on different surfaces. Notice that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance. Magnets have 2 poles. Identify magnetic material. Magnets attract and repel. Plants : Identify and describe functions of different parts of flowering plants. Explore the requirements of plants for life and growth. Investigate the way in which water is transported within plants. Explore the part flowers play in the life cycles of flowering plants, including pollination, seed dispersal and formation. Art/DT I can make up my own ideas based on my experience of the circus to make a circus figure sculpture. I can choose tools that I want to use to make a model. I can cut and shape a range of materials for my model. I can join materials together.I can talk about my design and say what I liked and what I didn’t like. I can record from first hand observation my ideas.I can experiment with a range of media (pencils, charcoal, pastils). I can experiment with tools and techniques including colour mixing to create circus drawings. Artist study of the artist Alexander Calder who is a modern era sculptor. Literacy Narrative Text - Fantasy story using the text ‘Leon and the place between. Circus Poetry - Children will study a variety of different circus poems and poetic devices and then create their own circus poetry. Persuasive writing - Children explore and discuss adverts. They find key features of persuasive writing and use these to persuade people to buy! Using compound and complex sentences the children will then write a persuasive letter. Playscripts - Identify and use adverbs and powerful verbs. Create characters using description, stage directions and dialogue. Compare dialogue and playscripts. Write and perform playscripts connected to the circus theme. Recount writing - Children will learn about different types of recount writing and create their own diary recounts based on a visit to the circus. I can use the eight points of a compass, four and six-figure grid references, symbols and key (including the use of Ordnance Survey maps) to build knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. I can make maps and plans of a circus. I know and can describe what jobs take place in a circus. I can observe where a circus is located. History I can find out about the history of the circus and identify key changes over the years.
